  We have no reason to mourn about unemployment when leaders cannot wear good thinking caps to plan properly. Right from the north to south Ghana along the volta rivers we can cultivate vegetables and fruits to creat so much employment but vision less leaders are in charge of our helms of affairs. Why will market women travel three days in treacherous terrains to cart tomatoes, onions etc from burkina faso to sell in Ghana when we have same land formation in Ghana.why will vegetables be grown by gutters and watered down with faecal polluted waters when large scale fresh water could be done to create employment. Why cant government zone up the country by the strength of the various regions and creat jobs accordingly. Eastern region palm plantation, volta onions and peppers, northern region guinea fowl and yams, Ashanti cocoa, western rubber plantation etc, mining and oil can be long term but will boost up the economy as well as.

  1st,Mr author,commodities & natural resources are one and the same.Also Govt cannot industrialize Ghana as that is a preserve of private sector.As long as we're happy to export our products raw then we'll have massive unemployment.We're conditioned to want big returns from little effort and therein lies Ghana's unemployment conundrum.We cannot grow our economy greatly thru primary products and a lackadaisical attitude towards work and yet expect to solve our unemployment problem.I love to liken Ghanaians to a kiosk owner who dreams of opening a supermarket but is putting zero effort towards realizing his dream.If we're to solve unemployment then we'll need discipline,focus and lots of diligence and quite frankly most Ghanaians are lacking in that department.In a nutshell,we're all to blame coz we lack willingness to painfully work towards our goals.

  What the Govt can do is the following
  
  ...Building infrastructure such as roads, railways, bridges so that goods can be transported.
  
  ending corruption
  
  helping Ghanian businesses, enterprises in aquiring skills.

  EVEN IN WESTERN NATIONS. THE ONUS OF EMPLOYMET IS TACKLED BY THE GOVT THRU YOUTH EMPLOYMENT PROGRAMS, EMPLOYMENT TRAINING PROGRAMS FOR ADULTS, APPRENTICE PROGRAMS ETC. THE PRIVATE SECTOR WILL OCCUR REGARDLESS.

  In pursuing privatization policy, successive governments have exposed our economy to the dictates of foreign investors because the income base of Ghanaians is generally low.
  
  The government is advised to intervene in the economy to add value to our raw materials and in the process create employment.All the "abandoned projects",eg the Tarkwa Gold refinery, the tyre factory, the jute factory, to name only a few, should be resusticated by the government to contribute to the creation of employment.
  
  The government should assist Ghanaians financially to establish import-sustitution industries.
  The government should also take action to restrict imports in order to protect our local industries.
