I don't think people hate Asantes any more than they hate other tribes. I think it is mostly Asantes, themselves, who think people hate them. They also think people are jealous of them. I think this gives them some psychological uplift that they feel good about. But I don't think people really hate Asantes. There are some who may think Asantes are proud and make too much noise but it doesn't mean they hate them. Why should they hate them? What wrong have Asantes done anybody?

I am not Asante but I don't hate them. I have absolutely no reason to hate them. They have done me no wrong, not once, so why should I hate them? In fact, I like them because when you travel outside Ghana, they are the ones you are most likely to meet as other Ghanaians. And they are individuals - just like you and I!

Maybe Joni is not aware of the intended hegemony change from Akans to Ewes which has been espoused by prominent/influential Ewe tribesmen like Professor Kofi Awoonor since 1982. When Awoonor publicized that intended transfer of hegemonic power in a book shortly after an Ewe, Rawlings came to power through a coup d'etat in 1982 I thought that was hyperbolic or perhaps a faux pas but if comments on Ghanaweb can be viewed as a microcosm of the general Akan/Asante phobia orchestrated and spearheaded by some Ewes in Ghana then I know Akan/Asante hatred is not a hoax.It's real.

This comment about everything has become politicized in Ghana is right on queue and the best thought expressed in that country in a long time. Everything, especially the currently ongoing challenge at the Supreme Court against last year’s presidential election result. The petitions daily hearings and dealings are comical, a charade and has showcased that the country’s judicial system is clueless.
The petition has lingered beyond its purpose, if it had one; to ‘protect Ghana’s democracy’, as NPP would want you to believe. As much as I commend the Ashantehene for this truthful and wise observation at the conference, I wish he had gone outside the box and advised the NPP bunch to withdraw their petition. I blame the Electoral Commission but mainly its boss, Afari Gyan for not doing a better job both explaining and not holding back the announcement of the election results for another day. But, this is not the time to blame; progressive people don’t blame but find solutions.
Continuing with this case is not good for the country and its psychic. It is obvious that people have come to expect the election results will be overturned and Akuffo will ascend to the presidency but have notbeen made to think through the consequences. How is that possible to reverse an entire election? The petition has the country on a banana pill and it’s time that all leaders see this and ask Addo to withdraw his case. A country is bigger than him and anyone and must endure.
Finally, if all this pledging fails to resonate then the last stop is dependent on the judges at the Supreme Court. The have to rule as “wise citizens” as any group as in such a predicament in either USA or Britain, will rule. Let this election result stand as is and Mr Mahama won the election. The court can believe the general elections were full of irregularities but it finds it unnecessary to rule on only one portion, the presidential part and hence throw out the case. The court should in addition, admonish the EC to do a better job of running elections from here on. It is a trust the country is put in its hands and it must put effect mechanism in place not to witness any confusion and disagreements in its election results. This includes all political parties to have well trained monitors at every future polling station to protect the interest of their parties. This is the way those “wise citizens” of the Supreme Bunch have to think, rule and save this country from chores and focus its citizens away from politicizing everything. Thank Ashantehene.

Yes, Otumfour is a very good observer. He has seen it, it is very true, and all governments in Ghana since the government of The CPP, led by the late Dr. kwame Nkrumah to the present led by Mr. John Mahama, are guilty.

Why should the Late President, J A Kuffour, not invited to attend the completion of the Bui Dam the very first time that President Mahamah was visiting the site?

Although President Mahamah has given his reason and explanation, it did not fall well in the minds of right thinking Ghanaians, because we know that the reason for his exclusion, by the NDC government is what the Otumfour just said:

The project was initiated by the NPP government led by Ex President Kuffour, and for that reason, we, the NDC gorvernment, would not allow any of them to share in the glory of its completion.

Ghana and Ghanaians need this kind of advice to knock some senses home in people heads if Ghana would survive as one nation, one people with one common destiny. And, Ofosu, please don't say "democratic dispensation". It has become a nasty cliché that makes some of us wanna puke whenever we hear it. Every writer has used this ever since our fourth republic got under way. It's no longer a sign of good writing. Say something else that is more refreshing and has not already been used by all the poor writers on this, and other, forums.

Timely words of wisdom flowing freely from the Otumfuo, Asantehene, are transcendental and must be taken seriously by all ghana-loving ghanaians. It behoves on all of us as good citizens to avoid the extreme partisanship that only serves the selfish interests of a few but sorely divides us. It's equally important for us all to understand how much we need each other and that we rise and fall,succeed or fail together.
However, I strongly hold the view that elected public officials must become the standard and pace setters for public discourses of national interests and for the achievement of a peaceful environment and a vibrant economy. President Mills speeches were not the vitriolic and rabble rousing type but he failed to show leadership when his ministers and spokespersons engaged in mudslinging bouts with their political opponents. Instead of being cautioned or punished when they crossed the line the President rewarded the most vociferous and obscenity screamers among the minnows with promotions thereby sending the wrong signal to these ambitious but disrespectful young men.
It's true that when the head moves the rest of the body follows. The problem in Ghana is the head is not showing leadership. It's not moving and if it's moving at all then it's the wrong direction. How would the President expect a demotivated ghanaian working force to work for a full 8 hours day when government ministers spend their paid hours not behind their desks but gallivanting from one Radio FM/TV to the other just trash talking? The President, being the highest public office holder in the nation, his cabinet and other appointees must first be exemplary in their work ethics before they can set the standards for the rest of the nation.
Though much is expected from the ruling government where much has already been given ,the opposition, as the government-in-waiting, must demonstrate their readiness to govern with efficacy when given the opportunity.
We, as a nation, are definitively set in the wrong direction and unless we pause and pay heed to the wisdom of the Asantehene and other well-meaning ghanaians we will reap the disaster we've been consciously or unconsciously sowing over the years.
