Your article was educative but you missed the one area in which AU has been successful. Undoubtedly the 50 years since the founding of OAU has seen the demise of colonialism in Africa and the organization must be given some credit for that achievement.
On the other hand it is sad how the organization itself continues to depend on foreign subvention for its very existence both in its capital and current budget. Why would China be our benefector by building the very edifice which houses the AU offices?
As for the solution to our predicament it is like the riddle of the chicken and egg. Without unity we can't challenge the current lopsided global economic system while without the economic development of individual states we would be too preoccupied with short term economic gains to forge even a regional market.
Let them celebrate 50 years that we have been able to talk to each other but let them not forget that our principal goal has eluded us so far.We should not let the next 50 years be wasted with more talk but with concrete action like a common regional currency
Good luck to them

As long as the Zuma's,Obiang Ngueama's and Mugabe's are still around, AU and its promise of a progressive Africa will never see the light of the day.

A nice piece, and a pleasant break from the extremely naive write-ups on Africa by same author! Dr. Kennedy seems to be coming back on his own! This is the Arthur K that I used to know and admire! He even sounds more Nkrumahist than his current NPP cap he wears! One more article like this and the NPP might begin to suspect him of being a secret admirer of the CPP agenda! Keep it up! Maybe, next time I shall throw my weight behind your ambitions to lead your party!
