Legitimate Cocoa Scholarship Graduate;
This is what we get from the rightful recipients of CMB Scholarship, and we know that they rule Ghana today. They are worse than the local Legon and KNUST breeds!

Whichever way the verdict goes, this country can never be the same again. The credibility of the EC, which we did not say was excellent but to the extent that they have conspired with parties in the 2012 election to affect the result is not palatable at all. Even before the commencement of the case in the SC, the credibility of some of the panel/justices was called to question by the parties. For instance, in the event that the Sc rules that all or aspect of the election be re-run, who or which institution will organize and supervise that election? EC? No. That cannot be since their credibility is being challenged and already one of the party's has already resolved not to participate in any elections conducted by Ghana's EC... they have demonstrated this in two by-elections already..... which voters register will be used for that elections? Will Ghana "import" EC from another country to come and compile another voters' register and plan and conduct that elections? Look folks, it appears we have embarked on an expensive and illogical academic exercise as far as this petition is concerned. thanks

Honestman, please accept my sincere apologies. I misinterpreted your comments. Indeed I agree with your arguments about the mischaracterisation of the EC (and others by the petitioners and their supporters).

Those within Akufo Addo`s inner circle would supported this on 'the face-of -the-pink-sheets' petition that is drawing the whole nation backwards? They even had to "invent" allegations they pretty well knew they could not back with credible evidence. Thus now we have been hoodwinked into accepting 'infractions' which never existed even in the minds of these sore losers. If you listen to some of the stories coming from close family members of Nana Addo, you begin to realize they wil not quit until they get things their way.

My hope like yours, is that ALL parties will accept in good faith the outcome, and that we will take the necessary steps to strengthen the very institutions we rely on to serve us well, and to forge a way ahead in our national development as ONE NATION instead of this rather partisan, polarised system that has characterised our journey in our 'young' life as an independent nation so far.
Thank you for a brilliant article.

Felix, there will be both known and unknown effects after the petition. First, if the petition is upheld the effects and benefits could be more unknown than known. The first known is that the Electoral Commission will be weakened, its image dented and the credibility of Dr Afari Gyan will be damaged. I am not sure how NDC members, supporters and sympathisers will react.
On the other hand, if the petition is unsuccessful, we do not know how NPP members, supporters and sympathisers will react but the EC will be strengthened. Though Dr Afari Gyan's credibility will be intact, the Justices may criticise both the EC and Dr Afari Gyan for some of the lapses.
The SC may be strengthened or weakened depending on whether the final verdict is accepted by all the parties involved in the petition and Ghanaians as a whole.
Whatever the final outcome and whether it is accepted or not, the organisation and management of elections in Ghana will be substantially improved (with lessons learnt from the petition). Again, political parties and their agents will be better prepared for subsequent elections. However, there is also the danger that since party agents are aware that they can complete a complaint form at the polling station, there could be numerous complaints forms just because results did not go their way. This could be both good and bad as it could delay declaration of election results and even cause tension in the country.

Whereas some have expressed their misgivings of some of the Judges, the verdict will be accepted by the society at large. We don't have choice. We have moved past the horrors of the 1980s, where Judges were killed because of their previous rulings. Political hacks will always be around, but they will not be allowed to set the country ablaze. The rule of law will prevail.
