Captain Boakye Djan and his friends... They somehow decided to make then the Flt.Lt. Jerry John Rawlings head of the "group that overthrew the government" so Mr.Rawlings became the Head of State of Ghana, by default..
Now note that Mr.Rawlings himself did not partake in the essential and critical part of overthrowing the government.. he himself was in Jail for ploting his own coup detat with his own buddies and mostly his own Tribemen.. However the 'generous' Captain Boaky Djan decided to risk his own life to free mr.Rawlings, after the latter (Captain Boakye Djan) promised Mr.Rawlings mother that he will free his son from Jail..
Mr.Rawlings led government executated many former Head of States, including the lovable General Kutu Acheampong (May He Rest in Peace) and othe seniour Officers, as they were accused of corruption..
People jubilated thinking Mr.Rawlings was there to 'redeem' Ghana from the grips of nepotism and corruption, favourism, yet Mr.Rawlings despite promising the people of Ghana his willingnes to pay "with his blood" if he fails his Mission Mr.Rawlings was not able to deliver the goods... Mr.Rawlings failed..
See Mr.Rawlings was compelled by Captain Boakye to hand over Power to a Civilian led Government.. and less than 2 years latter Mr.Rawlings staged another coup detat this time he overthrew a Civilian goverment.. and this Treasonable act off his was aided mostly by "Northern Ghanains in the Ghana Armed Forces", notably,Akata Pore and the rest, and what nobody understand is why those "Northern Officers" helped Mr.Rawlings to Overthrow a duly elected President Hilla Liman, who also hails from Norther Ghana..
By all account Mr.Rawlings before he staged the coup detat, before he overthrew a constituitionally elected Government.. Mr.Rawlings was REALLY STRUGLING FINANCIALLY..
He himself stated several times that he could not afford to eat twice a day before he sized power..and he could not even afford a decent sofa for his living room so he had old airplane seats in his living room (he was an Airforce Officer)..
After the second coup which made Mr.Rawlings our "impossed" head of State.. Mr.Rawlings engaged in a Policy that seeked to destroy Ghana's Industries..
Mr.rawlings sold of State Own factories, some of it very Cheap to his cronies and his wife.. Mr.Rawlings the man that could not even eat twice a day today has a nice belly and lives in very comfortable homes..
While he Mr.Rawlings insists he is Not a multi millionaire.. I want Mr.Rawlings to come to the public and swear to "Antowa Nyama" that he Mr.Rawlings or His family has not directly or indirectly enriched themselves from Ghana's wealth..
I want Mr.Rawlings to swear again to "Antowa Nyama" and the Ewe gods that he Mr.Rawlings or his family either directly or through a Proxy that he and his family are NOT Multi Millionaires..
You see enriching yourself from your country's wealth is essentially stealing and since I am of the assumption Mr.Rawlings is not a thief I think and wish Mr.Rawlings will come to a public forum and swear to "antowa Nyama" and '30 great Ewe gods" that he Mr.Rawlings has not STOLEN from Ghana..
As for the June 4th Coup or Uprising since Mr.Rawlings is not the "direct" architect.. I think Mr.Rawlings should clamp up and stop using the occasion to Potinficate..
It (June 4th 1979) was NOT Mr.Rawlings idea or plan.. He just was made a beeficiary.. uno like your Uncle dies and leaves you a farm and you use that farm to win an award and you constantly brags about it.. that is just not cool..
As for the excesses of the December 31st 1981 Coup.. a Few of our Judges were Murdered in Cold blood..Including a female judge that was Nursing a Baby..
I believe many Ghanains wish sleeping dogs to lie low or whatever the term is but I think who ever is really "reponsible' for that Great Crime should be brought to trial and perhaps be pardon or punished so that those in Power will realize that whatever you do while in power will certainely come back to haunt and hunt you..

Rawlings is a pure rogue and a criminal.It is sad that some stupid ghanaians have elevated him to 'political sainthood' though he is not.For overthrowing the democratic elected government of Dr Hilla Limann Rawlings should be arrested and put on trial for treason.He talks about accountability and probity and yet during his period in office corruption was rife and his ministers and other appointees amassed wealth.He put a stop to Ghana's industrial progress by arresting industrialists like Appia Menka,the late Siaw and in some cases confiscating their factories.Whoever approved june 4th to be a holiday must have lost his sense of good judgement for it ushered in a period of nonentities rule and disrespect for the elderly who were stripped naked and whipped in public.

Rawlings, the air force pilot whose "credit card" ensured a daily "yoo ke gari" meal from "Daavi" was so down on his luck he had to steal seats from an old air force plane and convert them into living room furniture.He together with his wife registered 300,000 old worthless cedis on the Assets Declaration forms when he sought to become our first democratically elected president of the 4th republic . Today he's listed in Forbes Magazine as worth a cool $50 million.As disconcerting and ugly as this bombshell may feel, a whimper and a whine crescendoing to the old fashioned Rawlings ravings and rantings must not be unexpected but he can fool us no more. A long time ago we stopped being his idiots and besides, wealth detests cocealment.

The Constituent Assembly's late night smuggling of the Indemnity Clause into the 1992 Constitution stipulated that whatever acts Rawlings and his men committed while in office, corruption included, cannot be prosecuted under our law.
It's rumored that Rawlings and his men were resettled with various sums of money by the Limann administration. Rawlings allegedly received 100,000 ,a house and a car whilst the others received 50,000 each. Who is rawlings kidding? The insertion of the Indemnity clause was an admission of guilt by those it was meant to shield from prosecution.

Mr Rawlings gangster type marauding band of soldiers did not spare womanhood. In some of the cities naked women were made to crawl on their hands and knees while being whipped on their behind.The forced stripping of women and their whipping in public is a despicable criminal act and must be considered as a violent attack and a crime against humanity just like rape.It was a gang rape.
June 4th is a dark indelible blotch on our history . It's a cautionary tale that must be told every generation of ghanaians with the warning "Never Again". It pales in comparison to the Holocaust in terms of the atrocities and the millions of Jewish lives lost but we should never ever forget June 4th lest it happens again.
