  This fixation on the acquisition of higher degrees without commensurate out of the individual acquiring these degrees is one of the causes of our under-development as a nation. We should rather focus on output instead just piling up degrees that do not add any value to the individual.

  My experience as a teacher has made me come to the realization that university degrees alone is not enough to make a good teacher. Back there at POJOSS, there was this Indian lady called Mrs Bentil who had no degree yet she left an indelible mark in the hearts of many who passed through her hands as a teacher. This any POJOBA will testify to. Another example is one Mr J.Z. Kwaha of the Department of Mineral Resources of Kaduna Polytechnic, Nigeria. This Man had only an attempted degree from the Camborn School of Mines, Cornwall, UK. Kwaha used to teach engineering mathematics and he distinguished himself so much that he won the admiration of international students, other universities including Amadu Bello University(ABU) and PhD holders within and without the Kaduna Polytechnic setting and even to the extent that any engineering problem that could not be solved mathematically across the length and breadth of northern Nigeria will always have to bow to Kwaha's solutions. Presently, in my district in northern Ghana, the district director of education has withdrawn all is children from the public basic schools where university graduate techears abound and sent them to a private school whose teachers are just some mere incomplete SHS graduates.These and many other examples make me believe that one does not necessarily need a university degree to be a good teacher.

  TEACHING is an art, a good delivery of a lesson is not based on knowledge of the content only (Master's Degree in the subject area),but how the delivery is done (Methodology) as well as the level/age of the learners.

  May God bless Mrs Bentil where ever she is. She was indeed a great English teacher and her impact was felt at Madonna School and POJOSS all in Koforidua.
