Ashantis win the prize in tribalism hands down. Most I believe were raised poorly, and hence have an animal kindom mentality. A cavemans mentality. The rationality that human beings are made of equal chemicals is absent in them. As Ayn Rand put it, only torrents of blood can change such an animalistic way of thinking.

As it has been mentioned most of the problems of disunity starts with the leaders of the country irrespective of which political party is running the country and this has got worse with the present government which sees fit to spend the tax payers' money to employ a propaganda secretary; someone who tells lies, half truths, misinformation, bumf, party line (not the nation's), indoctrination and hype.
Then you have politicians, media people, contributors on every debate looking at every issue by tribe first, topic second and common sense last.
You can also look at the nature of appointments and scholarships and it is obvious which tribe is in the majority and which ones have been left out; there is no sense of balance, equity and justice and fairness is not seen to be seen.
When the other party comes to power you have a similar scenario. This is what is eating our society; racism, tribalism, and party-sm; it is not about Ghana. Yet we criticise the western countries for being racists. We do worse than that to our own people.

Cousin, you've become a raving dreamer. Tell me which of the various Zambian beers brought on this dreamy but lucidly delivered article?
I don't believe anything you've written in this article except Ephraim Amu's song, which should've been the theme music instead of a closing swan song.
Since you've been out of Ghana for four and half decades, your observations of our motherland is usually gleaned from news stories, which are mostly biased political stories.
Reading too much political news gives you the false impression that Ghana is disintegrating at the seams on tribalism.
Let me tell you something you already know but are quick to dismiss because of your poor excuse to write an article on a false premise: Ghana is SOLID and UNITED.
The majority of our people that live in the countryside have a hard time making a living and work the soil to make ends meet. Most don't have access to clean drinking water or electricity, yet they somehow find a way to survive and have been doing so for eons. The last thing on their minds is to engage in hateful actions based on tribalism. Most rarely, if any, have the means to interact with people of other tribes and if they do, are very cordial.
Just because some idiots calls a radio station to rant and express tribal hatred doesn't mean Ghana is in the throes of tribal conflict.
Should everything you write be seen through the prism of politics? This is where you fall short and become a sore alarmist.
Do you think our Winneba Dentsifo Asafo will trek to Accra to rescue you in a tribal battle because you refused to pay for a kenkey in Bukom?
Cousin, the garrulous and bitter exchanges on the radio in the capital do not represent any sentiment of the people in Ghana. Learn to distinguish the isolated flashpoints of political quarrel from the dignity of the majority of our people.
Just because idiots with access to the Internet will log onto Ghanaweb to spew garbage do not mean you have to write an article suggesting the stifling of free speech.
Ghana is united. Enough of these alarmist articles. The information age has brought to fore every naked opinion, including yours, in a marketplace where one has to exercise the greatest of precautions while consuming information and suspending disbelief.
And what are we supposed to do with those acronyms? They're cute but irrelevant. It adds absolutely NO value whatsoever to your alarmist article.
Bring us a better article next time.

History is those happenings that have left their mark within our collective consciousness. History is a tense tangle of past actions that have reshaped the landscape, distributed the natural wealth and resources, established boundaries, engendered prejudices, and unleashed energies.
The economy is failing, our natural resources are shrinking, and our governmental policies to support them are inadequate. City areas with flourishing diversity sprout strange and unpredictable uses and peculiar scenes. Cities are expanding at an alarming rate, and pressure pulls out the plugs of the system that keeps us alive; and every indicator is showing RED.
Let us celebrate our diversity and debate our differences without fracturing our communities. Difference of character leads to difference of aims which estrange friendship and unity. Avoid discourses that attempt to suppress contention and unity.
If we cannot end our differences, at least we can help save the environment.

Since 1966 some people from the various tribes in Ghana, full of ignorance, have engaged in the constant tribal drum beat that served their interests and those of their uneducated, unintelligent and unwise followers.
History continues to repeat itself and lessons that ought to have been instructive to us all thus become foot notes to some. Those who never understood the responsibilities that come with so-called freedoms have used this mirage of freedoms in Ghana to misbehave and incite chaos; it comes from even those who tout their schooled credentials from the Diaspora and here at home alike. This 2012 election is not hotly contested because of a search for truth and or fairness of our election practices and procedures but has been driven by people who think and act as if they have the inalienable rights to govern or think it’s their time to govern. No one in Ghana is, has been and will ever be better (more human) than other Ghanaians. Being schooled is not necessary traits of intelligence neither do classroom earned credential ever going to be equivalent to wisdom. We cannot achieve stability and peace in Ghana if clowns who take office in our parliament continue to fight over peanuts while they incite their ill mannered and unwise foot soldiers into behaving less than primates.

Thank you very much for your heartfelt and passionate appeal for unity and oneness as a nation. I share your sentiments and also believe the root causes include (but are certainly not limited to) the points you have raised. The flame of tribalism is fueled to a very large extent by politics and politicians and that is a major obstacle to our unity as a nation and people.
Perhaps we can learn a few lessons from Paul Kigame's Rwanda who, after going through decades of bitter division, civil wars and ethnic cleansing, are making tremendous efforts to rid themselves of tribal bigotry, stereotypes and national disunity.
There is indeed unity in diversity and we ought to celebrate, not allow this to divide us further.
