the economy is so good i wish they come and take this wonderful ndc govt to go and rule them there . whenever kwesi broni wants to tap a blackman on the back its only a sure sign that the person is key in selling out his own brothers . these fools think we cant see through their lies and deceit but we know the truth , things are going to get worse because the greed and selfishness of the ndc can not be erased . they should all go and burn for the hardship they pour on our people's head . everywhere you go some pepeni idiot is destroying all the good the Akans have created . the ayigbe shits join them to ensure only misfortune is handed to the Akans , we wait for the clarion call of freedom so we teach them a lesson . they say the economy is flying but yet no light or water , contractors doing work and not getting paid , strikes everywhere and rigging of elections denying the people a true govt of the people and by the people . they try and force down our throats their lack of morals , so perverse they even think homosexuality is good and recommended standard . in their madness they run around the world lobbying for support of their evil tyranny . integrity and honest service for the welfare of the people is no where in sight all we have is corruption from the highest office to the lowest of the lows . their days are numbered

It is shameful that some Ghanaians appear to take pride in not being able to write in their native languages. The World Bank's definition of an educated person is one who is able to read and write in their native language. By that definition, most Ghanaians are illiterate and it is sad. It is uplifting to see that someone is spearheading a crusade to encourage us to write and read in our native languages.

Eei, Cousin Sakyi,
I was worried about you for while because I thought you'd visited T.B. Joshua and were speaking in tongues to impress your Ghanaweb readership.
Do you know it took me over an hour and without a dictionary to decipher what you were trying to say in each sentence? I almost developed a headache halfway through that.
Well, by this article if you're vying for the position of Omanhene, I'll support you and vote for you. Everyone on the thread seem elated and each is pouring such uncommon adulation not found on this tough website.
A couple of questions for you regarding this herculean effort-
1. Your notorious penchant for listology manifested itself again and I want to know if it's all by memory?
2. Either I slept through school or your were lucid and attentive through hose formative years when we were counting our fingers and toes for addition and subtraction exercise.
3. Which is which, 1 or 2 or both?
4. How much will it cost for you to send me samples of the beer that triggered this ability of yours to write in foreign language? I want to be able to write a Japanese version of what you've written.
Cousin, Saaalute, from forehead to the waste with a foot stomp, whaaaam.
Why does this sentence not seem right-
"Nna nky3 Ghana dawurbo akasanoma a, oy3 GBC anaa Radio Ghana no, dze simaba, anaa donhwer bi si ho ewimber ewimber biara a, nky3 woto f3n, anaa d3 kodzi wo radio do"
If you take out the last three words "wo radio do", it'll be grammatically correct. Prove me wrong, otherwise I'll be your Japanese-speaking Okyeame when you're installed Omanhene.

But I think it's a great effort. Not many can do that - rightly or wrongly. But this is not the first piece Kwasi Sakyi has written in Mfantse. I think it's the second.
It's nice too that many people are responding in Mfantse too. I hope others, too, will, once in a while, write something in Hausa, Ga, Asante, Ewe, Twi, perhaps Nzema too. Sakyi has shown us all the way.
Kudos, Mr Sakyi!

Excellent! But please, please, please, that word "Fante" does not exist in the Fantse language. "Fante" is how Asante speakers and the Europeans pronounce the name because of their difficulty with the "ts" sound, and this is one of the issues that has caused me to go insane!
Perhaps it might be worthwhile to give you the etymology of the Akan tribal names. First of all, "Akan" has a connotation of "the first people" [to arrive in the present day Ghana]. Fantse is derived from the "fa" (portion, component, side, piece...) and "tsew" (to separate from a unit or item, to tear from a unit or item). Fantse, therefore, refers to the Akans that separated first from the group of Akans fleeing the jihadist terror when the ancient Ghana empire was invaded by berbers. The ancestors of the Mfantsefo eventually settled in the central coastal areas of Ghana at the end of their epic flight from the area covered today by southeastern Mauritania and western Mali. The word "Asante" is derived from "asa" (finished, no more...) and te (to separate or tear in Asante twi). So Asante refers to the remnants of the Akans who divided up and went separate ways at the end of the epic Akan flight from the ancestors of the evil Al Qaida when they attacked the ancient Ghana empire.

1] The 'original' Fantses split/seperated from the Bono/Techiman Akan faction. It is on record that Bonoland is the first Akan settlement in present day Ghana, even preceeding my ancestral Adansi. The Fantses did not quite lose the 'Bono accent'.
2] Asanti = Osa nti. Depicts a [forceful] conglomeration of, hitherto, fragmented and weak[in warfare] clans/sub-tribes, a la USSR, under the leadership of the Oyoko clan.

Years ago, I attended a Ghanaian funeral service in New York City (Hanni Bouhari's, for those who can remember) during which a lady from Winneba delivered a most beautiful and elegant eulogy in borbor fantse. Man, William Shakespeare would have had a run for his money!
Are such traditional orators born or groomed? Are the young ones picking up?
Our literary scholars should take this up, research, and archive.

Wofa Kwesi,
Definitely let's do this again. We have to! It's been so entertaining and educative at the same time. God, my eyes were teary from smiling and laughing at all the humourous and creative responses. So many beautiful responses. Only I am ashamed I can't write properly with correct grammar, vocabulary and spelling as the many contributors here but today I resolve to start acquiring some of the books (many familiar) that you kindly listed.
Imagine today we are all united - for once - on Ghanaweb, and having fun too. And to underline that Mfantsefo and Asantefuo are the same people with very few, inconsequential differences, I encourage Asante speakers to join as much as possible next time. Even the Baoule of the Ivory Coast use phrases like "Damirifa due" and their Chiefs dress the same way as Akan Chiefs in Ghana!

The only time I can see the Fantis respond to the "wake up" call is when they carry authentic names. Why do they despise their original names and scramble for Anglo-Saxon names? Your forefathers ignorantly adopted those foreign names. It is a big shame to the Fantis.I'd that every Fanti who does not bear an authentic Ghanaian name watch this award winning movie entitled "Quayson Arthur Boosomfield." The authentic Fanti name is "Kwesi Atta Boosomfi"

There are other books which we used in lower and upper primary. These are: MEHYE MU (class two)with yellow cover; ENYIGYE SEM (Class four) light blue cover; ENYANSA SEM (Class six); also blue cover. At GCE level we used AO! M'AKOMA MU & MFANTSE AKAN MBEBUSEM.
It's refreshing to know that there are people still out there who continue to cherish our heritage. God richly bless you. I shall contact you on your email.
