Some of the pregnant girls are the academic weak ones. Some of the teachers try to persuade these girls that they are readily available to teach them in their (teachers) home.
This where a teacher would pounce on the poor girl.

Of course, some of the naughty boys also convience the girls to try the forbidden fruit as nothing would happen.

I had a very beautiful class mate in the early 60s who became pregnant before we wrote our standard 7 examination. Rumours had it that the work was carried out by our head teacher. Was it true? I did not know. She passed the standard 7 examination but that was where her education ended.

Until people like you grow up to admit that,it is not a crime to be pregnant whilst in school, our country will continue to suffer the backward shame of having healthy pregnant mothers of young age, aborting or committing suicide, just to please some idiot like you. If a young lady becomes pregnant, parents, teachers, leaders and the whole society should work together and encourage all parties to usher in a healthy new citizen and their educated mother. Let me tell you a story 'Foolish' Emmanuel "Judge Almighty" Mensah, In the late 1990, I had a course mate,a young lady student at the chemical Engineering Dept of UST (what do you call it now Mr. development expert MY FOOT), she was a first class student from start to finish, that girl was my classmate in preparatory school too. You know what? She wrote the Common Entrance (equivalence of the BECE in the 1980s) Exams seven months pregnant, and had 296. She went to St. Mary's and later to UST. She finished her PhD at McMaster Univ in Canada. and now lectures in engineering (in a university )somewhere in Michigan. Her son, who she gave birth to between Common Entrance and Going to Secondary School, finished his M. Sc. at U Penn last year. He now works for a petrochemical company in Taxas.

Can you appreciate that people make mistakes in their lives but when these same people are given a second chance and treated with respect the possibility of a positive change is high. So why ground these kids to a grind when we can do better, because we know better? I believe we should not relent in the effort to steer them clear from actions that cause those accidents, but it should be done with respect and love. we should rather encourage them to continue their education after safe delivery. After all being pregnant while in school is not a crime but just immoral and it's not the hardest issue to deal with.

So far no one has found out about the ages of the girls and yet, everyone seems to have opinion about how these ladies should run their lives. Were we not told recently that a 99 yr old had graduated from university and what about 60 something yr old grandma who started junior school or something. What if they were "matured" and married students and living home with their husbands? Do we have to the right to tell them not to have a child?

And more importantly, is it about just taking exams or being in boarding schools for the next 9 months?

The archaic laws are the ones that needed to be changed ASAP. They serve no purpose in this modern age. There should not be any law to reprimand or punish pregnant ladies. The only one that should be there is there is to educate and encourage them during their pregnancy.

The young writer is a bit ignorant in his connection of education to Moral standards of our young daughters or sisters who get themselves pregnant before taking the B.E.C.E. in Ghana. And due to the worldwideweb. we can see his writings afar.We shouldn't be so angry about the article but rather try to educate him on how the world has change from let say the 70s,80s and 90s to this very generation. We also have the same responsibility to educate our young school girls lets say who are under the ages of 16 to restrain themselves from sexual activities.The truth is that they can't concerntrate to the fullest whilst bearing the pains at that tender age.And you know some parents even absolutely stop paying the cost of education when their little girls get themselves pregnant. We all know that the government in Ghana doesn't have any aid for this young ladies who fall victims to pregnancy. What is the mischief that is being corrected after a girl or woman is already pregnant when prevented from writing an Exam?

You have rather PUNISHED the person may be forever by preventing her from taking up that oportunity (Exams).

I a communist believe that giving birth is the responsibility and right of girls and women that nobody has the right to punish them for performing their responsible duty to society, giving birth to children, which men biologically do not do.
The Presbyterian Church leader agreed with me that no person has the right to punish another for caring a baby and that those girls must be assisted and advised to write their examinations, give birth and thereafter continue with their education.

Ignorance makes people write but do you know how many people gave birth before completing basic school? Talk about morality and you the writer will not pass the mark. Sex is a biological need and if people will resist the teaching of sex education in basic schools its the pupils who will suffer. There was a medical doctor who was pregnant not even at BECE but a mission school and the nans protected the pregnancy, took her back after delivery, that child happens to be the only child of her till date. Read wide and open your mind, due to her biological make up, she has to suffer the consequences of the action of two, so what's your problem. Ignorant men should grow up. in Ghana everything is church, idealism and morality, reality is out, holy though art holy. Let the girl stay out of BECE and perpetuate poverty.

In the advanced countries such unfortunate girls are paid some allowances to help them continue their education.After birth are provided with child care teachers to look after their new born babies. This is to enable the mother to continue her education. If these girls are not allowed to write the B.E.C.E who is the looser? The girls or the Country In Canada where I have lived for over 40 years, these girls are encouraged to advance as for as they could so that the mother and the baby don't become a burden on the state. In Ghana we are still in the dark ages.
