It is very very sad to read that some commentators here are defending the despicable behaviour of rapist MPs.
In well managed, civilised and accountable societies the association and proof of rape with you and you offices ends ones career no matter who you are.
But here we are where the leadership hierarchy - from top-down, head to toe, the president through parliament to the ministries are corrupt and bankrupting the fabric of the Ghanaian society in every aspect.
With the "leader", the "president" so complicit in the who corruption machinery such that he is powerless to criticise his team else he will be exposed.
He can an MP defend the rape of a minor and still have the moral courage to defend his act and still continue to hold his office the land he is supposed to ensure justice?

It is only in a few instances that adults are responsible. Are we saying that if a sixteen year old boy makes a fourteen year old pregnant we should force them to marry? Will it not be a case of two children marrying?
I am all for supporting such kids, but support should not be about marriage. They should not abandon school. We should build the capacity of the Social Welfare Department to offer emotional and psychological support to them. We should take a keen interest in the babies and ensure they do not become dysfunctional etc etc.

Mubarak Muntaka: Let Girls Marry At Age 14 If They Get Pregnant

The Majority Chief Whip who is also the NDC MP for Asawase, Mubarak Muntaka has expressed worry at our legal system and noted that once a girl gets pregnant at for instance age 14, she should be allowed to marry at that age instead of saying that she must attain the age of 18 before she can enter a matrimonial home.

He and other members of parliament were making a contribution on teenage pregnancy in parliament yesterday. They were expressing worry at the manner in which teenagers who get themselves pregnant are given an automatic “red card” by society.

According to the MPs once a teenager gets pregnant she should be supported and encouraged rather than vilified and scorned since this destroys the potential of such teenagers. Some MPS noted that when a teenage boy or man impregnates a teenage girl, they should be supported to assume full responsibility for the pregnancy to serve as an emotional booster for such girls.

The Majority Chief Whip and National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for Asawase, Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, yesterday sent the whole Parliament House into rapturous laughter when he said that he got married to his ‘first’ wife in his second year at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) at the age of 31 and felt proud of that achievement.

He was making a contribution to a statement made by the NDC Member of Parliament for Akatsi North, Peter Nortsu-Kotoe, to condemn the restriction put on female trainee teachers not to get pregnant while being trained in order to become good role models for their pupils and students.

Hon. Muntaka, using himself as an example, said as a student at KNUST, he got married to his ‘first’ wife and that there were many people such as him who got married while being students in school and nothing barred them from that.

His example sent his colleague members in the house into rapturous laughter with the Member of Parliament for Old Tafo, Dr Anthony Akoto Osei, rising on a point of order to tell the House that the Hon. Muntaka was misleading the House because as far as he was concerned he (Muntaka) got married to a young lady just last year.

In reply, the Asawase MP admitted that it was true that he got married again last year and that the lady he got married to was his second wife and that he was proud to be married to two women as a Muslim.

Lets advance policies and ideas that will encourage our young girls to stay longer in the classroom to acquire more education and skills training to be more assets to society than liabilities. We dare not encourage them to think of marriage and raising of families at such tender ages. Remember Dr. K. Aggrey's advise on educating more women in our society. If it's because of this that's why you're in parliament, then, Asawasi Constituency,Ashanti Region and by extension Ghana and Africa are the losers. I'm highly disappointed in you. Better advise yourself and refrain from such negative thoughts or resign from parliament and go and lobby for early marriage for girls. Some of these our MPs need Nana Addo's free education to be re-orientated. We need qualitative and serious law makers in Ghana and not some of these quantity of mediocre MPs.

It’s alarming my friend and calls for urgent address. I challenge you to accompany me in my work travels around the country to see for yourself. I thought as good Christian as you are, you will offer solutions to this problem of teenage pregnancy that has become endemic but rather, you use this unfortunate situation to bash the guys religion indirectly. I think there are other solutions like abstenance than marrying at the age 14 but again, do we want these teenagers to continue giving birth out of wedlock ? some don’t even know who impregnated them , other s were raped by their dads or a close relative ( very common in the villages ) etc. These kids will come into this world with a lot of complication due to the fact that , they lack the needed parental care to guide them unto the right path.What is the way out ?

Yet as if that's not enough "MOOTAKA" and his men are vouching for girls to marry at the age of 14 when they're impregnated by unscrupulous, idiotic men like themselves. No wonder Muntaka said what he said because he's already a culprit, having sex with one of these under-aged girls he calls his wife? Where are all those Domestic Violence Units, and especially the garrulous, so-called Human Rights activist, Nana Oye Luthur or whatever she calls herself. Oh! I hear she's the minister for something, something...OK, now that she's "chopping nyafu-nyafuly", she's not heard any more.

Only last week or so there was a publication in which an 18-year-old student allegedly raped a 16-year-old girl under some circumstances because she claimed her grandmother had failed to provide financial assistance. A trial judge sentenced this guy to 7 years imprisonment without delay. If what's good for the goose is equally good for the gander, why then don't we apply the same law to "The Pampers Man", Captain Nfodwo, Doe Adjaho and many many others whom people address them as "Honourables"?...My foot!

One, it is a crime for any man to have sex with children under the age of 18 and when they do, they should be prosecuted and sent to jail instead of marrying them to their victims because that does not address or solve the problem because such people will continue to molest children if you marry them to their victims. What kind of a woman are you to even suggest raped victims should be married to their victimizer?

If a 14 year old girl is raped and becomes pregnant, the best thing to do is for the family to help her raise this child with finances and moral support and prevail upon her to continue with her education instead of this double whammy of forcing her to marry the rapist and probably assigning her to a lifetime poverty and sorrow.

I wish you experience this kind of trivails and marry your daughter to the man who raped her. You might be on drugs because your brain is not working.
