  We do not need an underground system - it is much more expensive to build and maintain than an overground system. Besides Accra is an earthquake-prone area.
  
  We do need an integrated transport system making use of our rivers,sea, roads and airspace

  Check Rawlings Park, Tema Station and they are now Pooh Places. Ghanaians cannot be trusted to manage and maintain nothing. Privatize, way forward but ensure privatization is controlled through regulation.

  Without Rawlings, Kalabuley would have been the norm in all market places in Ghana. Shoeshine boys would have been stuck in Nigeria claening shoes. Revolutions and Cope D'etats would have been a routine system of Governance but Thank GOD for JJ RAWLINGS.

  I am pointing this to you because you seem to have forgotten the real Ghanaian when a simple unit of metro mass transport in the Western region, Takoradi, was raped out of cash through ticket frauds which escalated into the whole transports unit going into administration.
  
  You talked about a better Transport policy or system to make your recommendations or suggestions sustainable but this is why maybe I like you because you have exposed a huge loophole for me to bring you back to the Ghanaian Old school. Just reflect a little bit on why the Ghanaian revolution which ended all coup d'etat.
  
  In short, My suggestion will be to add to yours where Foreigners should be seen to Manage our transport systems(privatize)since the average Ghanaian CANNOT be trusted to manage anything.
  
  Don't forget the OSA bus systems, The Tata Buses were all packed in the yards after running the aground through Greed and Corruption which saw nobody punished. Recent is our State Transports, where are they?
  
  It is only the Private Businesses who can invest to make it work. As usual Ghanaians and Africans would work harder were it to be for a slave master. This is the truth.

  for instance, if ticketing fraud would be a challenge, please computerize. and please nobody should play that old adage of illiterate populace. almost everyone uses a mobile phone and they know how to recharge so with the appropriate education, it will work. another simple solution is introducing weighing scales to charge for luggage instead of humans using their discretion.
  
  its time we move from level one because we've been fixated there for too long.

I'm yet to understand what you mean by we africans hate ourselves so much that we're constantly comparing ourselves to others.Are you implying that we cannot modernize our system and cities like what pertains in America, Europe and Asia? What is so uniquely african that we need to maintain ? Is it the corruption "gone wild", the filth, communicable diseases, poor work ethics,poor infrastructure,lack of planning, lack of accountability and transparency,breakdown of law and order,superstitious beliefs? I don't know what you're talking about because nothing seems to work in Ghana. I'm afraid tradition and culture are dynamic not sacrosanct and some may have to be jettisoned.There's nothing african about under-development and primitiveness. We need to invest in science , math, and arts education. Aren't we being left behind by the rest of the world? Modernization does not mean losing our African identity.Japan is uniquely Japanese but they're modernized and abreast with scientific and technological advancement.We can maintain our african identity and still be modern.

Just when I almost gave up on the confluence of inanity that characterizes some of the comments made on Ghanaweb,there comes a fellow Ghanaian with some rather cunning discourse.As a patronizer of Ghanaweb,I sometimes cling when discerning the mentality of some of my fellow commentators.But I need not evince my disgust in response to what Asiwome had to contribute.My friend Mensah said it all.Thanks buddy.Our country needs more of your caliber to help in our development.
  Those who want to wallow in archaic,static and helpless mentality would be left behind.The best way to improve the challenges we face is to measure our development against what pertains in those nations that are providing better standard of living for their people. Ain't nothing wrong in learning about what works and incorporating same in our efforts to lift our people from abject poverty to a better way of life.That should be our goal and the basic determinant of how we pick our public servants to advance such commonality of our wishes.

  Yeah, in Holland anybody who visits the precincts of any court house will always see lawyers and judges riding bicycles to work whiles the criminals and migrants are the ones who drive in porch sports cars to court. The reason is that these white learned people value their health, the environment and their little savings on fuel and environmental taxes.
  In Ghana and Africa reverse is the case. It is a taboo for a lawyer or a military officer to even board a taxi. I even learnt as soon as one gains admission into the law school one must buy their own car. There is also this story of using certain special powerful mobile phones immediately one passes out of the Military Academy and Training School. Does this not show how stupid the blackman is? In a country where we can't even manufacture tooth pick or razor blade we are bent on showing empty class. In a country where our scholars carry big academic titles yet they cannot even write books. Countries like India banned the use of colour televisions until they were able to manufacture their own. can a similar thing be done in Ghana? This is how far our useless university education has brought us.
