What treatment is meted out to Akans so as for them to feel like a minority tribe? Does any tribe have to walk on the other, spit on the other and openly discriminate towards the other in order to feel like been in the majority?

My people were given to the Chief of Adwumakase-kese, in Kwabre with the left hand of King Ntim Gyakari as a reward for the part that village, called chief Nana Asanso Kufo played for the war effort..
My people has lived at that village since then, and don't feel any less Asante.
The left hand of the King Ntim Gyakari in still in tomb in the centre of the village up to today and my people who are instructed to take care of it, still do perfume all the traditional rites as required.
No body treat us inferior in that village. we are not force to go to worship Asantehene.
We are proud people of that village and feel complete Asante Akan and twi speaking people.
Forget this tribal warfare and move into 21st cen. period .

Mr. Kyeremeh must bear in mind that various Bono Traditional Chiefdoms are autonomous of each other and therefore Wenchi can't decide for Dormaa or Techiman (Takyiman, for instance. Wenchis can send themselves to the asantes without we the Techiman-Bonos because we share no affinities together. Thank you but no thank you.

And for your information, there is no Brong Ahafo Traditional Chieftancy but rather Brong Ahafo National House of Chiefs which is an umbrella of Bono and Ahafo Chiefs whose various traditional authorities have no bearing on other but have collective mutual interest for the Region.

He recounted the suffering the people of Techiman suffered at the hands of the Asante army and the mass drowning in the Tain river while they were running away from the pursuing Asantes.

In my opinion, his questionable antecedent will hunt him. It's just a matter of time a REAL SON OF WENCHI OPPOSED HIS NOMINATION. In my opinion, Thomas shouldn't have wriiten this piece knowing pretty sure that his past woes and trouble are too many to be considered a chief of Wenchi. This assumption that our Nothern brethren only received charity from our Cocoa-derived funds alone, under the free Education program of the early post-colonial period, could be rubbing some of us in the wrong way. The program was necessary for a stronger nation building. We could not leave any part of the Nation too far behind.

The topic can only be fairly and honestly discussed to add to a quality historical knowledge-base, if we could strain the ethnic connotations that imply relative tribal supremacy/inferiority out of it.

We should not hold the relative poverty that many associated with the North against them. After all, the folks there never came begging to be included in any emerging Nation that Ghana was going to become.

Besides, if nothing at all their land had a price... Priceless... And if we were going to bring them along, that free Education was a tiny price to pay to get them to join us, relative to all the real price of their land and the invaluable human capital they were contributing to building Ghana.

We should also be more honest in acknowledging the worth of the labor our Northern brethren supplied to our Cocoa industry. We could not have attained all that prominence with our Cocoa and its attendant wealth in our families had it not been for the immense labor pool folks from the North offered to help grow and maintain the Cocoa farms.

Do we even really know if these farm workers, generally, ever got paid fairly? But since we might have contracted them in a free market environment we may not feel obliged to bear any guilt for less-than-decent payment for their services.

This is a similar situation to what many conservative Americans view immigrants to the USA, especially, the illegal ones who may be taken advantage of by American Businesses.

It is only that any such deprecation of our Northern brethren is even worse because they are by our Constitution just as Ghanaian as anyone else and began our Nation's creation with us.

It is time we dumped the ethnic blinders and honestly sought for real Social and Economic justice for all.

We can talk about any perceived sabotage of Ashanti Region, or any other part of Ghana, by any leadership to immediately correct it without pulling the tribal strings.

If, we have any substantive evidence that some bigoted myopic national leader is isolating any part of Ghana for sabotage because of tribal differences we can drag that s.o.b. or d.o.b to court to expose and punish him or her accordingly. This the way to go. And it is not naive. That bigot's tribe should not be tainted with his or her crime and shame.

It's quite amazing and amusing that some people churn out deceptive articles here on Ghanaweb thinking that all readers are that dumb to locate and understand half truths embedded in the article. The author of this article states in one breath that Nana Wenchihemaa Fremah had nominated a candidate for the Wenchi throne. Interestingly, the writer states elsewhere that it's the Asantehene who has given Wenchis their traditional leader and that would culminate in a kind of togetherness between the Bonos and Asantes. Now, these are some issues I would want Mr. Kyeremeh to ponder over: given the fact that the candidate holds double allegiance with over 90 percent of that allegiance on the side of asante,is Mr. Kyeremeh saying that he would be accepted by all the people of Wenchi? This question is at the heels of the fact that the Wenchi royal family is very divided following the rejection of their recent Hene Nana Nketia (Coach). Would his factions accept the fact that it's asantehene who is selecting their leader for them? And on what basis did the asantehene choose the Wenchihene? Is it not an attempt to impose an asante on the Wenchis and therefore an attempt to meddle in Wechi chieftancy affairs? You see, this is what we the Techimans vehemently abhor hence the long standing conflict between asantes and us. Does Mr. Kyeremeh think in his heart of hearts that Nana Attakora and Nana Mensah would have acquiesced to the asantehene choosing their traditional leader for them?

Now, Mr. Kyeremeh moans over the death of a guy imposed on the people of Offuman calling himself Offumanhene. Kyeremeh conveniently left out the role played by that guy who, together with his immediate family carried out arsons in the nights and burning farms belonging to Bonos who served under Techimanhene. For instance, on that fateful Friday when he was killed, his daughter was caught with a gallon of petrol sprinkling on their opponents' houses, leading to a fight resulting in her death and that of her father. Does Mr. Keyeremeh recall what Kuffuor's government concluded over the callous murder of Ya-na? The NPP said the Ya-Na died as a result of a war; in the same vein, the asantehene's puppet at Ofuman died as a result of war so they must deal with it and stop crying over spilled milk. While talking of his personal and childhood friends who died on that day, I must remind Mr. Keyeremeh of a recent history of Tuobodom in 2008 where a guy called Kojo Fante, a puppet chosen by asantehene as Tuobodomhene, opened fire on Nana Techimanhene and in the process maiming and paralyzing several others, including Kwaku Takyi. Kwaku Takyi was also my childhood friend who grew up with me at Dwomoor; he died three years ago as a result of the shooting triggered by asantehene's assassins at Tuobodom. Is this the kind of togetherness that Mr. Keyeremeh is pontificating and jubilating about? A relationship where the asantes have no respect for the Bonos or a relationship where we treat each other with mutual respect? Mr. Kyeremeh and his Wenchi or Nkoranza people can sell their birth rights to and join the asantes but we the Bono Techimans say emphatically that we have nothing to do with their machinations!

Your hatred for Asantes is misplaced because this issue is about the myopic and backward traditional rulers and not ordinary citizens like us. And who put that nonsense in your mind that Asantes have no respect for Bonos. As far as I know Asantes are closer to Bonos than any other tribe in Ghana.

Please try to live in the present. I feel a bit sad after reading this article because I've never heard of the story. All I'm trying to say is that if I've never heard of this story, I believe most Asantes like myself are not brought up to hate people from other tribes, more especially Bonos although we occasionally tease the Bonos about their "be be" Twi.

What is past is past. I wish those lands in dispute are returned to Bono stools. After all none of us the ordinary citizens benefits. God bless us all.

I merely meant that the Golden Stool is irrelevant in the scheme of the ordinary Asante or Ghanaian because if I had a wife who comes from Bono, my first responsibility in life will be towards her and my children. Can you honestly say the Asantes you know in your life disrespect you or treat you differently from their Asante brothers? And do you sincerely dislike Asantes?

Please try not to fight the past. Let's be thankful that we were not alive to witness those bad times. Apart from myself and one typist, almost all the staff at my workplace are Bonos and you won't even know unless they tell you. Please leave the Otumfuo and the Bono chiefs to their disputes and let us continue to live together as the brothers that we are because what joins us together is stronger than what divides us.

Apparently, only people who are naïve will find the historical masterpiece of Mr. Kyeremeh to be a distortion of facts. In the first place, the writer's analytical viewpoint seeks to inform Otumfour that by dint of intermarriage or other cultural links between the Asantes and other Bono states such as Wenchi and Techiman, there is the need for the Asantehene to link prominent chiefs in the Bono states such as Professor Owusu Sarpong as the new Wenchihene who traces his paternal anscestry from Asante to help resolve the unfortunate differences between them. It is an undeniable fact that because of intermarriage, the Bonos and Asantes are inseperable and therefore, as Akans with common destiny it is proper they come together as one people especially in terms of political perspective when other non Akan tribes see themselves as enemies of Akans (Asantes, Akims, Bonos and others)during election period.To me those who disagree with the writer are the ones who have been indoctrinated to believe that Asantes disrespect the Bonos out of political expediency. After all, President kuffour,s wife is Bono and even rivalry between the Bono and Asantes helps other suspicious tribes to capitalize on this to marginalize them in the usurpation of national political power. And this is the time the Bonos must team up with the Asantes to defeat the undisclosed communist inferior propaganda tactics of certain elements.

Jec, I want to make it emphatically clear to you that Prof Owusu Sarpong Has been dully sworn in in accordance with the custom of Wenchi by the queen mother and had sworn the oath of allegiance to the acting president of the traditional area the Adontehene and all the other divisional chiefs. It is significant also to note that to enstool a chief does not necessarily need to be done in a public place but can be performed at any place as custom demands as prescribed by the chieftancy Act. Jec must realize that Prof Owusu Sarpong is a royal and has gone through all customarily processes as an enstooled chief.

First and foremost, Akan is Not Part of Ashanti, but rather, Asantes are part of AKANS. Thus akan is bigger than asante. Akan history in present day GHANA began with the Bonos. Bonoman was the first AKAN Kingdom. Almost all AKANS migrated from Bonoman.

Secondly, Asanteman was the last Akan kingdom, as there were also other Akan kingdoms.
Asante dominance of Akans at the hight of its power was very horrific and barbaric, according oral history. This has caused almost all other AKAN tribes to detest, or abhor Asantes.

You Mr. Writer, portrays the Asantehene as the centre of AKAN unity. ...far from truth, the Asantehene is more a destructive figure among the Akans. He is more a problem, than a solution. An example of his misjudgements, is the Tano Subin issue. He didn't just apply wisdom, but threats, which caused more harm than good. It made the Asantehene to loose respect, and emboldened the young Brongs, to stand their ground.
The young Brongs of today are more radical, and are prepared to defend their ancestral Bonoman, and the Asantehene underestimated the boldness of these young Brongs to die for their region.

When Prempeh I, was released from prison, the the British gave Bonoman back to the Asantehene, just for the British to get what they wanted from the Asantehene. Since then the Bonos have always resisted the Asantehenes dominance. When ghanas visionary leader Dr. Kwame NKRUMAH came to power, the Brongs used that opportunity to finally split from Asante brutality. Since then, the Bronglands has progressed better, than under asante dominance.

The present Wenchihene is a mixture from both Wenchi Royal family and Manhyia Royal family. Thus he comes from both royal families.

It's true, the AKANS are so divided. It's about time they unite. They are loosing touch of their common history. Most young AKANS don't even know that they originated from Bonoman. Most don't even know that, the OSEI Tutu I, the architect of the Ashanti kingdom, was raised and trained by the DENKYIRAS. That he got his wisdom from the DENKYIRAS. ....most AKANS don't know that Okomfo Anokye, who psychologically tuned the Ashantis to bravity was not an Ashanti himself. Most don't know that, the akwamus played a very important role in OSEI Tutu I life. And all these people who helped form the ASANTE kingdom were not Asantes.

Osei Tutu I was a very wise and clever king, his main vision was to unite AKANS and not to dominate them. When he died, the Asantehenes who came after him lost that vision, when they resorted to dominance and brutality.

AKANS are loosing their historical touch. Most Akans don't even know that, the Nzimas are pure AKANS and that, they originate from Wenchi. Dr. NKRUMAH, knew his ancestors came from there.

The Akans need to unite, to colour their heritage.
Do you know, that Victor OWUSU, john KOUFOUR, DR. BUSIA, the brave Dormaahene and Techimannhene come from the same ADUANA abusua?
That's how interesting the AKAN history is. Any Akan is from one of the nine AKAN ABUSUAS.

But the present Asantehene would be the last to bring the AKANS together. And the least to unite the Brongs and Asantes.

The Brongs should better unite and talk with one voice, to develop their land.
If the Asantes are ready, they can smoke the "peace pipe" with Brongs. More than 250years the Brongs couldn't unite with the Asantes.
This a question the Asantes have to answer.
