  ...The Government exercised the latter option when we disagreed over the judgment debt and other Gargantuan crimes. The Government, and my colleague Ministers at the time know that there was no provision for dismissal under my contract of employment as a Minister or that of any Minster.
  
  I reserve the right as a citizen of Ghana to protect and defend my honour and integrity should this civilized challenge for the truth be ignored.
  
  This is not the price I should be made to pay by the Government of Ghana for defending the Constitution of Ghana in the Waterville and Isofoton unconstitutional payments declared by the Supreme Court.

  What the Benkumhene said was wrong. Chieftancy is totally different from Politics. There is no retirement age in Chieftancy. Otumfuo Osei Tutu, would continue to be the ruler of the Ashanti Empire.

  I find it a bit interesting that the title of this article suggests that Dr. Okoampa actually believes that the destoolment of the Offinso Benkumhene is wrong; while he goes ahead to advise us to analyse the issue 'on a case-by-case basis'.
  
  To begin with, the Benkumhene actually swore an oath of allegiance to the Offinsohene. By my records, his immediate overlord, Nana Wiafe Akenten, is in his 70s. For the wing chief to have told the Chronicle newspaper that chiefs should retire at 70 is, in my estimation, an indirect insult to the Offinsohene.
  
  As Anfoega rightly pointed out, the queen of England is well over 70 and no one is questioning her (senility or leadership skills).
  
  A wing chief of his calibre and depth should have known better; he deserves his punishment. I rest my case.

  Dr Ahoofe, I can somehow understand why you support the alleged statement by the Benkumhene of Offinso. However, you appear to have lost sight of a coupl of issues:
  1. Under the Akan traditional chieftaincy set-up, there are mechanisms for ensuring that chiefs operate within certain boundaries. The various sub-groups within every court act as a Council of Elders who advise on issues. Autocratic though they may seem, it is in the interest of every chief to lisen to the advce of these sub-groups. The chief consults them on issues.
  2. The people reserve the right to destool a chief at all times. The fact that this does not happen very often is not an indication that it does not happen. Consequently, when a chief exhibits sign of non-performance because of age, a regent is appointed to rule alongside him.
  3. Capping the age limit does not happen anywhere else in the world. I do not begrudge Ghana the desire to be the first to age cap. The issue is the assumption that young people perform better. If our political journey is anything to by, Dr Ahoofe, I will beg to differ. The reins of government have been, more or less, passed on to a younger generation of Ghanaians, and what do we see? The introduction of Politics of Insults into the fabric of our society, retrogressive propaganda, the like of which we have never witnessed in our country, corruption at the highest level etc.
  Please Mr Dr, let us keep what we have. We do not need to go through an unnecessary process that will only serve to replace one group with a more corrupt one.

  I support the Offinso Benkumhene. There are these old chiefs who have become liabilities to their subjects and must be replaced immediately.Their input is void.
