  I attended grad school with a lot of Chinese students. They were cute (slim, slender, flat to no buttocks/hips). I had asked one my Chinese friends this same question and I was told this: the Chinese wordfor galamsey is "chong chon huan meaw". It's pronounced with a strong nasal accent. Of course the 'meaw' appearance here might indicates their love for cats, I believe.

  Anyway, the origination of the 'galamsey' word brings back to memory a story Daddy told me when I was iron boy.
  Daddy said any time they would line up in front of the colonial masters looking for jobs (maybe at the labour office) the boss-man will always walk through the men looking for Young energetic men to pick. They will always say "come here, young man" and they would also tell the job seekers we need 'A-young-man'. Some of our illiterate old folks pronounced that as IRON MAN(a-young -man).No wonder my granny will always say Kofiwusu instead of confused.
