IMF is not the problem. the problem is the people and their greed and apathetic nature.

Haha,we talking innovation now? Actually the author is off the mark.Innovation involves doing or inventing something completely new but what he is lamenting is our failure to adopt the already standard practices or methods in use in other places. So how can a nation so behind be expected to come up with revolutionary ideas if yester-year is still such a challenge? How can Ghanaians dream of going to the moon yet they haven't perfected the clearing of their stinky drains, keeping cities free of trash or even dropping our uncivilised practice of defecating in public spaces?Lets conquer the basics first before we talk "innovation"

You can't use only book knowledge to innovate. Innovation comes through experience and this is why the French will say 'you learn how to dance by dancing'. The Chew and pour method of learning at the tertiary level is what is killing us as a country. We lay no emphasis on training and in most cases our academicians will want you to believe that training is the same as education just as they succeeded in making Ghanaians believe the word 'graduate' is only associated with academic degrees. This is how far our useless university education has brought us.

Innovation does not evolve from thin air. It bores down to how we educate ourselves from our formative ages - nursry to the university.
We can only do so, through our own culture, by knowing and understanding who we really are, first and foremost.
Too many of our educated illiterates ignore our good heritage and cultural values and strive for things that are not compatible or sympathetic to our historical past...if you don't know where you are coming from, then you will never know where you are going to.
So many at times I hear our educated illiterates talking about we being able 'to think outside the box'......
the same jargon over and over again. What the hell is that? We do not even have or nutured that 'box' in the first place. So, what on earth do they mean by that?
I for one prefer 'challenging our minds' - that is what leads to innovation. Yes! Innovation..........
Enough said. I will ask all Africans to google on to Sugata Mitra: "Build a School in the Cloud".......and understand how minds are being challenged to be innovative. We need
to THINK......and that only comes out of your own understanding of your culture and understanding who you really are.
We send our kids to nursery to speak and learn in English and then come homwe and continue to speak English? Meanwhile, the English themselves do not care whether a citizen of theirs speaks English or not. As long he or she is being catered for by their system.
And here we are failing our own children in our so-called schools for not doing well in English.
What on earth is wrong with us? Are we not humans? Were we not also created by God to follow the same minds given to all to be innovative?
We can't, because we have chosen the wrong path and will NEVER be innovative - to develop. We have unfortunately discarded our God-given minds to embark on another human's own. It will NEVER work!!!! PERIOD!!!
GOD BLESS GHANA!
AFRICAN FOREVER!
