If all were right, eye tests should accompany renewal of driver's license in Ghana. And if you fail the tests you come back after you correct your sight. I know the Licensing Office is supposed to stick to these rules but it does not. It is clear why we have too many vehicular accidents on Ghana roads.

very encouraging article, there is still some humour in gh blood. we are talking about looting. have you seen any criminal leaving behind his glasses as evidence. if you want to exploit this market my brother or sister go ahead. we need glasses at the borders and the adminstrations, where strokes of pen, where weak evesights and omissions could cost the nation less. can you imagine a poor eyesight omitting one zero for woyome. thank you and have a nice day, and continue to be optimistic, this is a heavenly gift. make use of it and benefit from accompanying blessings.

Three men were driving through the country when their truck broke down. It was bad weather and they had no place to go.
Of course the farmer came along and said they could spend the night with him under one condition. He had a son who had no ears and got very upset if anything was said about it.
Later that evening at dinner one of the men kept staring at the boy. The boy, getting upset, asks “What are you staring at?”
The man says, “Oh, it’s your teeth, your teeth are so pretty, and make sure you take care of them or they will end up just like mine!” and he takes his teeth out.
The second man kept staring and staring at the boy. The boy getting more upset asks the man “What are you staring at?”
“Oh,” the man says, “It’s your hair, you have the prettiest hair I have ever seen, and make sure you take care of it or it will end up just like mine!” and he takes his wig off.
The third man kept staring and staring and the boy was really irritated at this point and says, “What the hell are you staring at?”
“Oh,” the man says “It’s your eyes, you have the prettiest eyes I have ever seen and make sure you take care of them because you don’t have any ears to put glasses on.”

Excellent piece. I guess we live in a country where policies are nicely drafted passed and implementation is left to the dogs. Drivers with visual defects requiring eye glasses are suppose to on them but who monitors that?

If they have their eye problems, its theirs not ours. Surfice it to say generally, we have less teeth problems and less sight problems. Mind you, if you go to renew your license, you are tested.

Kwasi,
This is an excellent piece. I wrote about it in the "Sentinel" of the Metodidt Church, Ghana, about ten years ago. Generally, we all eat the same kind of stuff as Ghanaians. Yet it is mainly those who go beyond JSS (occasionally some JSS kids) who wear glasses in Ghanaian society.
In that article, I asked a rhetorical question as to why "commercial drivers, policemen, soldiers, mechanics, traders, farmers, among others do not wear glasses?"
I have been testing my eyes every other year for the past 42 years. My eye lense have only changed slightly from the first set I wore in first year univeristy. The added bonus is that in the UK, I get to be tested for diabetes and gloucoma as well, every two years.
We really need to have mandatory tests for drivers especially.
Be blessed

Well, the fact is DVLA tests the eyes of all those who go seeking for driving license from them. Those who are found to be in need of correective lenses are told to go and get bone before they are given the license to drive. Those who will pass through the back door will find themselves behind the wheels without the glasses.
In the military and police services, one is subjected to a rigorous medical exams including eye screening before being allowed to join the training at their respective training shools. Thereafter, they regularly are made to go for medical screening while in service. This simply means that those who apply to join these institution and found to have any eye defects are not taken in the first place. those who develop the defect while in service are re-assignede with other duties that normally dont take them outside for field operations where they would be seen.

We don`t take our health seriously, only money money and politics. We forget to go for check-ups. Most of the accidents are caused by poor eyes-sight.
