  I am of the view that as many Ghanamen should become citizens of other countries(developed countries) as possible.My view is predicated by the need to change the behaviour of Ghanaians into an attitude thats healthier to foster development,support a culture of diligence/maintenance and open their eyes to the real world out there.Ghanaians as currently constituted and cultured are irredeemably lost.Alegiance,in my opinion,is further down on our list of needs.

  Well written article and very informative. I think the only reason the dual citizenship becomes an issue is politicians who are insecure about their positions. Ghanaians abroad contribute immensely toward the development of the country through remittances, direct investments, and many other mean. For this reason, they should be treated as heroes instead of being alienated using constitutional maneuvering. If the United States honors Dual Citizenship why Ghana can't. I think full integration of Ghanaians abroad into the society, including political participation when they return home would not only benefit our political discourse but also would also help change the entrenched systemic problems that hinder the development of the country to the benefit of the populace.
  
  I think about this a lot and the only way to bring about a change is to form a well organized pressure group to champion the interests and rights of Ghanaians living abroad living abroad.

  Ghanaian government workers are scared stiff if they have to work with other Ghanaians with foreign education.They are not confident and are scared that the foreing trained guy will expose their weeknesses. A friend returned from the USA after 20 years education and working there. All his licenses are up to date but the health ministry will not engage him. No reason was given.
  
  Divided loyalty of dual citizens, bull shit! During the 2006 world cup when Ghana eliminated the USA my children were excited and they drove their cars in MIAMI Florida carrying the Ghana flag.These were Ghana born naturalized Americans. Foolish greedy dirty Ghana politics. You think these kids will ever wear a Ghana flag again if they realize that their country Ghana describes their action as divided loyalty?
  Even the USA recognizes dual citizenship so what is the big deal, glutons?

  Good morning Kwesi. Hope you are doing well in Lusaka. I agree with you that the 1992 Constitution needs some urgent amendments. However, care must be taken regarding a number of issues. First, I am not sure what people really mean when they talk about the winner takes all being a problem. I am not a fun of coalition governments and strongly in favour of winner takes all form of government. However, winner takes all does not mean that competent and well qualified Ghanaians should not be appointed into certain positions just because they have sympathy for certain political parties, provided such professionals would not misuse their position to undermine the government.
  
  Second, care must be taken in watering down the powers of the Presidency. A very weak presidency may also not be in the best interest of the state. We should remember that the presidency is also an institution that OBama said must be strengthened. The current problem stems from the weakness of the Legislature to hold the Executive to account for its actions and omissions.
  
  Regarding the District Assemblies, I will recommend that all members are elected on party tickets as well as independents with no appointed members. Again, like in the UK, the Chief Executives should be civil servants/technocrats. The appointment is done openly through competitive selection. The party with majority members take leadership of the assembly and be responsible for policy decisions whilst the Chief Executives and staff will be responsible for delivery.

  Tony, I guess you are still not convinced that your Ghanaian citizenship has been restored to you, despite sending you the Supreme Court ruling of May 2012. You are fighting a battle that is already won.

  When I was born, I was sent to schoon not in London nor US. I travelled to oversease and became a citizen in a country. Om my passport, is written " Place of birth" which means my original country. Why should my country reject my citizenship of my country?
