Short Biography:
Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo

He graduated from the University of Ghana in 1967 with a B.Sc in Economics. Nana trained as a lawyer in England and was called to the English Bar (Middle Temple) in 1971 and the Ghanaian Bar in 1975.

Under President Kufuor, Nana served as the Attorney-General and Minister for Foreign Affairs. He was the flagbearer of the party in the 2008 elections and was again elected in 2010 to be the flagbearer of the party in the upcoming 2012 elections.

NO REASONABLE GHANAIAN WILL MARCH ON THE STREET FOR NPP EXCEPT THE MINORITY NPP GO OUT AND MARCH FOR THEMSELVES! And that would be understandable. The problem with the you the writer is that you think all the NDC supporters think like you and your friends and they don't. the NPP can March and dance as long as they want in Kumasi and nobody will care less because that is their hub. Try doing that in the eight regions and your asses will be whooped by the majority NDc so who are you kidding?
For the majority of Ghanaians, the NDC is only half of the problems NPP dished on us in their 8 year rule, so they are not going to pick them up again no matter what! No amount of fabrications and lies from NpP operatives will change the minds of the good people of Ghana, so stop the joke!

On his way to achieving this agenda he was involved in a high-level corrupt and fraudulent deals some of which might have accelerated Atta Mills demise.
He misused and abused state assets to impose himself as a "president" on Ghanaians so that he will have an uncontrolled power and the audacity to continue his wealth building programme. He has so far blatantly refused to declare his wealth and as is tokenly requireed by the constitution
Now he thinks by widening his catchment area for collecting Ghanaians money through taxation he can easily have a bigger port of money to steal from such that he can usurp and accumulate as much as he wants from the coffers.
In doing this he is sharing that booty and aspiration with the likes of Woyome, RLG, SADA, GYEEDA, Okudzeto Ablakwa, E.T Mensah (a non-entity turned NDC acclaimed "wise man"), and many more.
I haved vowed not to pay tax on the premise that:
1. If I don't know where my taxed money ends up, I will not pay especially any direct tax
2. If these NDC dimwits, shenanigans and charlatans do not realised that much money could raised or saved from their wastefulness, profligacy, and their fiscal incompetency in managing the affairs of the country, then taxing condoms, chewing sticks, etc., is a clear sign of wanton disregard to their followers.

(1) The validity of the election of the President may be challenged only by a citizen of Ghana who may present a petition for the purpose to the Supreme Court within twenty-one days after the declaration of the result of the election in respect of which the petition is presented.
(2) A declaration by the Supreme Court that the election of the President is not valid shall be without prejudice to anything done by the President before the declaration.
(3) The Rules of Court Committee shall, by constitutional instrument, make rules of court for the practice and procedure for petitions to the Supreme Court challenging the election of a President..
THAT THE SUPREME COURT OF GHANA IS VESTED OR GRANTED THE AUTHORITY UNDER ARTICLE 64 CLAUSE 2 AS SEEN ABOVE ONLY "A DECLARATORY JUDGEMENT ORDER OR AUTHORITY".
THAT BY THE RULES AND LAWS OF INTERPRETATION THE LEGAL ISSUE HEREBY IS WHETHER OR NOT THE SUPREME COURT OF GHANA IS VESTED WITH THE CONSTITUTIONAL AUTHORITY TO GRANT THE PETITIONERS RELIEF BEING SOUGHT AT THE SUPREME COURT?'
IT IS MY HUMBLE SUBMISSION THAT THE PETITIONERS RELIEFS BEING SOUGHT "ASKING THE SUPREME COURT TO ANNUL OVER 4.6 MILLION VOTES" THAT THE SUPREME COURT CONSTITUTIONAL POWERS VESTED IN THE COURT UNDER ARTICLE 64 CLAUSE 2 AS SEEN ABOVE CLEARLY SPEAKS FOR ITSELF THAT THE COURT LACKS SUCH CONSTITUTIONAL AUTHORITY AND THEREFORE CANNOT PURPORT TO GIVE AN ORDER OF SPECIFIC PERFORMANCE THAT THE COURT IS NOT VESTED WITH SUCH POWERS UNDER ARTICLE 64.
THE OTHER LEGAL ISSUES RAISED IN THE INSTANT MATTER ARE AS FOLLOWS:
(i) WHETHER OR NOT A SITTING PRESIDENT OF GHANA WHILE IN OFFICE CAN BE SUED OR TO BE JOINED TO A LAWSUIT AS DEFENDANT?
THAT ARTICLE 57 CLAUSES 4,5,6 OF THE CONSTITUTION IN MY HUMBLE SUBMISSION CLEARLY SERVED AS AN OUSTER CLAUSE TO ARTICLE 64 UNDER WHICH THE PETITIONERS RESORTED TO THIS INSTANT CASE.
THAT THE LEGAL SETTLED PRECEDENT IN THE CASE OF "NPP VRS.PRESIDENT RAWLINGS & ATTORNEY GENERAL" IN THE CASE WHERE NPP CHALLENGED THE FORMER PRESIDENT WHEN HE WAS THE SUBSTANTIVE PRESIDENT OF GHANA AND APPOINTED THE DISTRICT CHIEF EXECUTIVES AND THAT NPP CHALLENGED THE PRESIDENT CONSTITUTIONAL AUTHORITY OF MAKING SUCH APPOINTMENTS.
THAT THE SUPREME COURT HELD UNANIMOUSLY THAT THE FORMER PRESIDENT ACTED PROPERLY UNDER THE CONSTITUTIONAL POWERS VESTED IN THE PRESIDENT IN ACCORDANCE WITH ARTICLE 57 CLAUSE 4 OF THE GHANA 1992 CONSTITUTION.
THAT IT WAS DURING THE ADJUDICATION OF THIS MATTER THAT A PANEL MEMBER OF THE SUPREME COURT ITSELF RAISED THE PRELIMINARY QUESTION WHETHER OR NOT A SITTING PRESIDENT OF GHANA CAN BE SUED OR JOINED TO A LAWSUIT AS DEFENDANT?
THAT THE SUPREME COURT OF GHANA IN A MAJORITY 3-2 HELD THAT A SITTING PRESIDENT OF GHANA WHILE IN OFFICE CANNOT BE SUED OR JOINED TO A LAWSUIT AS DEFENDANT BECAUSE OF THE SANCTITY OF THE PRESIDENCY.
THAT THE COURT CITED THE FOLLOWING CASES AS ITS LEGAL PRECEDENT AUTHORITY:
(a) AMOAKO TUFFOUR VRS. ATTORNEY GENERA
(b) SALLAH VRS ATTORNEY GENERAL
JUST TO CITE ONLY THESE TWO (2) CASES.
(ii) THE LEGAL ISSUE INVOLVING THE FAILURE OF SOME ELECTORAL OFFICIALS NOT SIGNING THE PINK SHEETS.
THAT IT IS MY RESPECTFUL SUBMISSION TO TAKE COGNIZANCE OF THE LAW INVOLVING "MENS REA" OR THE INTENT OF THE FAILURE TO SIGN THE PINK SHEET LOOKING UNDER THE CIRCUMSTANCES THAT THE OFFICIALS WORKED WHETHER OR NOT IT WAS "INTENTIONAL, DELIBERATE OR WILLFUL ACT" THAT THE ELECTORAL OFFICIALS INTENTIONALLY REFUSED TO SIGN THE PINK SHEETS WITH THE INTENTION TO CAUSE A WILLFUL INJURY TO A PARTICULAR CANDIDATE OR JUST "AN HONEST MISTAKE OR A MERE HUMAN ERROR" JUST TO BE CORRECTED?.
FURTHER, WHETHER OR NOT UNDER THAT CIRCUMSTANCE HAS THE ACT AFFECTED THE ACTUAL VOTES CAST? AND WHETHER THE COURT CAN CURE SUCH DEFECTS?
(iii) THE LEGAL ISSUE INVOLVING THE VOTERS REGISTER WHEN THE LEAD COUNSEL DULY TOLD THE COURT THAT THE EC BEFORE THE ELECTION WAS HELD GAVE NPP OR THE PETITIONERS COPY OF THE VOTERS REGISTER EVEN WITH THE SOFT WARE.
WHETHER OR NOT EC JUST GAVE THE PETITIONERS THE REGISTER WITH THE SOFT WARE FOR JUST GIVEN SAKE OR THE PETITIONERS WERE EXPECTED TO CHECK THROUGH THE REGISTER AND TO RAISE THEIR CONCERN,IF THERE WERE ANY?

THEREFORE THE LEGAL ISSUES INVOLVED ARE AS FOLLOWS:
WHETHER OR NOT THE DOCTRINE OF EQUITY WHICH PROVIDES THAT "HE WHO SEEKS EQUITY MUST HIMSELF DO EQUITY AND THAT EQUITY AIDS THE VIGILANT AND HE WHO COMES TO EQUITY MUST COME WITH CLEAN HANDS".
THAT IN THE INSTANT CASE THE AGENTS OF THE PETITIONERS DID NOT MAKE ANY OFFICIAL REPORTS OF ANY ACTUAL IRREGULARITIES OR MALPRACTICES THAT ACTUALLY OCCURRED AT THE POLLING STATIONS WHERE THE ACTUAL VOTES WERE CAST AND THAT THE PETITIONERS THEMSELVES MADE THE SAME MISTAKES THAT THEY RESORTED ACCUSING ELECTORAL COMMISSION OF AND THAT THEY THEMSELVES "HANDS ARE SOILED AND DIRTY" CONTRARY TO THE DOCTRINES AND PRINCIPLES OF EQUITY AS SHOWN ABOVE.
FURTHER, WHETHER OR NOT THOSE MISTAKES WERE MADE INTENTIONALLY, WILLFULLY OR DELIBERATELY AND JUST HONEST HUMAN MISTAKES?
IT IS THEREFORE MY RESPECTFUL SUBMISSION THAT THE PURPORTED MISTAKES WERE "HONEST MISTAKES" AND MERE HUMAN ERRORS AND NOT INTENDED FOR ANY CONSEQUENCES.

Right to Vote
Every citizen of Ghana of eighteen years of age or above and of sound mind has the right to vote and is entitled to be registered as a voter for the purposes of public elections and referenda.
Electoral Commission
43
(1) There shall be an Electoral Commission which shall consist of -
(a) a Chairman;
(b) two Deputy Chairmen; and
(c) four other members.
(2) The members of the Commission shall be appointed by the President under article 70 of this Constitution.

(1) A person is not qualified to be appointed a member of the Electoral Commission unless he is qualified to be elected as a member of Parliament.
(2) The Chairman of the Electoral Commission shall have the same terms and conditions of service as a Justice of the Court of Appeal.
(3) The two Deputy Chairman of the Commission shall have the same terms and conditions of service as are applicable to a Justice of the High Court.
(4) The Chairman and the two Deputy Chairmen of the commission shall not, while they hold office on the Commission, hold any other public office.
(5) The other four members of the Commission shall be paid such allowances as Parliament may determine.
(6) If a member is absent or dies, the Commission shall continue its work until the President, acting on the advice of the Council of State, appoints a qualified person to fill the vacancy.

The Electoral Commission shall have the following functions -
(a) to compile the register of voters and revise it at such periods as may be determined by law;
(b) to demarcate the electoral boundaries for both national and local government elections;
(c) to conduct and supervise all public elections and referenda;
(a) the guarantee of a fair and realistic remuneration for production and productivity in order to encourage continued production and higher productivity;
(d) to educate the people on the electoral process and its purpose;
(e) to undertake programmes for the expansion of the registration of voters; and
(f) to perform such other functions as may be prescribed by law.

Except as provided in this Constitution or in any other law not inconsistent with this Constitution, in the performance of its functions, the Electoral Commission, shall not be subject to the direction or control of any person or authority.

For you to even fathom that they (the majority) would contemplate going on the streets "to demonstrate" against him or his government is a dream which obviously is now becoming a nightmare to you.

To answer your question directly: Ghanaians have done everything RIGHT (not wrong) "to deserve Mahama" because apparently he was a better candidate, run a better campaign and if we all put our personal differences aside and pull together and put our hands to the wheel to support him, we will do better as ONE NATION. That is what you Sarpong are missing.

As long as you have made your mind that Mahama is not for you or is not "fit" (in your eyes and mind's eye) to be commander-in-chief and head of State, you will always think Ghanaians have been 'wrong' in their choice.

Fortunately you are in the minority and my advice to you is to accept the reality and move on because we cannot "all win all the time".

Wait for the next electoral cycle and try harder, perhaps you will be luckier next time and win government. When you win as a party, we will all accept (as we have done in the past) and support your government (as some of us have done in the past) and work in the interests of Ghana.

Surely you are not suggesting to Ghanaians that what is happening in Egypt or Tunisia or even Spain and Greece is any good example for us to follow are you? If you are then you are blind to reality and cannot see how damaging such chaos is to national development. Can you reverse the huge losses if you got into government after such a mess in the country?

School feeding contractors now refusing to provide lunch to school children because they are not getting paid is a reality.

This government arresting people wrongly for setting fires to support its political ground standing is a reality.

And for that matter because president Mahama is at the helm, he is responsible for all these ills and so somehow Ghanaians have been wrong to elect him?

If I understand you to mean all these things, then you might as well blame Cameron, Obama, Hollande, Merkel, Putin and all the other world leaders for the continuing terrible economic plight of Europeans and Americans (some of which may even be worse than that of some Ghanaians)!!! In which case, you probably also would suggest that those leaders are not fit to run their respective countries and should be removed or people demonstrate and cause chaos so that their governments will fall.

Look Sarpong, like you, I am averse to corruption in all its forms and as I understand it (and if the president's own words are to be believed), the president is keen to deal with issues of corruption both in, and out of government.

That he commissioned committees like the one which looked into the stewardship of GYEEDA and his stamp on what is going on at our ports and interdiction of those involved are signs of he (the president) and his government doing something about the situation.

Is what has been achieved enough? Certainly not, and more needs to be done. But I would challenge you and your ilk, to focus on the issues and argue on how we are dealing with the issues and leave the 'personalities' out of it.

Your problem is that you cannot separate the government and its efforts from the person who has been elected president just because he was not (and still is not your choice). Whereas that is your prerogative, it is equally important that you respect the person and his office, and yes, be critical of his (and his government's) performance, but I completely disagree with your attacks on his person and tying him to everything that is wrong within our system.

Corruption has been pervasive in Ghana (and most other countries including the United Kingdom which I have vast experience of, and the US where you reside). In the UK, corruption pervades all branches of government including parliament and some MP and Peers (from the House of Lords) have had custodial sentences and spent time in jail because they "fiddled" their expenses.

The Police Force has been known to be corrupt and institutionally racist and have been held to account at various times. In the case of the latter, it took a change in government (i.e. the last Labour government under tony Blair and Gordon Brown) to deal with corruption in the Police force.

Under Cameron's Conservative government, we have seen the deep-seated collusion between some sections of the press and politicians, culminating in the News of the World shutting down and Murdoch's empire come under serious attack. This led to a national inquiry the recommendations of which the Cameron government tried to water down in terms of its recommendations.

The long and short of it is that in every country and everywhere, issues of corruption and reports on corruption are dealt with in various ways by government. Recommendations have to be studied properly and acted upon. Ghana is no different.

I rather prefer Ghanaians who will argue their cases purely on pragmatic, fair and non-partisan grounds. The trouble with you Sarpong and your friends is that you always see everything in party colours and wish to pin things to individuals and to attack them unfairly.

I am against that hence my arguments with you. You also choose to ignore similar issues emanating from your side of the political divide thus making your approach a biased one. In scientific thought and inquiry, that is clearly a serious issue and can be labeled as 'intellectual dishonesty' or a very narrow and selective view by reviewers such as myself.

I have nothing to gain by supporting someone or a party or a government blindly and you may label me however you wish.

I only stand for a fair balance and addressing the issues confronting our country holistically and fairly. The danger of your approach is that in each new electoral cycle when a new government of a different colour is in power, a whole new set of people will emerge who only see the 'bad' in the ruling party and then the whole merry go round starts again.

I am opposed to that because whether it is to do with the NPP or NDC, that approach is not healthy for us as a people and a country and if anything, seeks to divide us as a people. How can we reasonably hope to advance as one nation and prosper if we choose to continue on this path?

That is my 'beef' with you and as long as you (and your friend) continue along this path, we are bound to have disagreements. I am anti-tribe bigotry, anti-partisan blindness, and anything that does not put our common grounds and sense of purpose first as a nation but rather seeks to look at things in the sort of narrow and parochial ways that you seek to address such issues of national importance. I don't think you will even understand me but I will continue to try.

You can pretend to be blind but that doesn't mean the truth is no longer there. Before Mills came, were there ever any university struture in the Brong and Volta Regions? But thanks to Mills, there is a functioning one in place even as work is still ongoing. We didn't have a Ghana gas pipe project before but thanks to Mills we have one as our own. In all the districts in Ghana, there were at least one or two massive infrastructural projects on going there. That is why NDC won the elections. This was the hardwork of Mills. Many schools were revamped and mordenised and many eliminated from under trees. He's president who made several orphanages his symbolic second home, donating to them at every turn. police and military and other civil servants deservedly got 1000% inrement in pay-rises. He facilated the work of Anas to fight corruption in the system. The achievements is endless with his humility and selflessness sending a correct signal of how public SERVANTS ought to behave.

You don't even know that Mills was the one who concieved and set up the Ghana Gas company to initiate this state-owned gas pipeline project. NPP played NO role in the setting up of that state company and its objectives, not even the conceptualization. As for the claim of university without student and buildings, it's obviously false and I believe when you open your eyes, you'd see the students and the infrastructures. It's not difficult at all, just go to Volta or Brong and inquire. Lastly, a policy without budget, hmm, what kind of policy is that? If NPP had a policy without budget then it means they were not serious with the policy. NDC was serious with the policy that's why it added a budget to it. If all what I said are phantom projects to you, then they are because you've shut your eyes so you only see the nothingness thereof.

Corruption is rampant to the extent that a customs officer at Kotoka asked me for a bribe in order to allow my luggage to be loaded on the aircraft. It contained two old brake calipers I was binging back to claim a core charge on a new one I had bought. Of course I told him to take a hike. Mahama sounds clueless and it appears he doesn't have any ideas to improve the situation. He squandered billions on his campaign and there is nothing left. God help us.
