  If you had cut out (or down) the long description of the "personal feud" between the young man and you, you would have had time (and space) to "discuss other aspects of the professoriate that may not be obvious to even the most astute and perspicuous non-practising college graduate". But as usual with you, it must be about you.
  
  Having said that, I will agree with whatever else you said. The young man, Awuni, is rather a braggart whose many cheerleaders in Ghana make him feel he is, indeed, the best in his field there. He has stopped sending his articles to "ghanaweb" probably because the "ghanaweb" crowd, most of whom live outside Ghana and know better than to cheer the mediocre and inexperienced journalistic qualities of the young man, do not urge him on like those on myjoyonline where he happens to be a "Senior Broadcast Journalist". I suppose most of his cheerleaders there are young ones like him with whom he was in school... Like him, they don't know any better.
  
  Surely the young man can call for more research from our university lecturers but not argue that they do not deserve their research allowances which, I understand, is a pittance.
  
  But, Kwame, there is one way the young man is taking after your: that of blowing his own horns. He really does lay that one on thickly. His pictures adorn his articles as if the pieces are about him rather than something else. He is now doing his M.A. at the School of Comm in Legon and he will surely go on to do his PhD. And then it will really be laid on...

Otherwiese, Which of the professoriate do you then belong and what is the constitution of professoriate in Ghana? Is there any research to ascertain this?

  In Ghanaian public universities there is senior member -academic and senior member -non teaching (administrators). Senior members have a minimum of a research-based second degree. Senior member -academic comprise of lecturers and research fellows. Lecturers do 70% teaching and 30% research. Research fellows do 70% research and 30% teaching.

  Folks the good teacher forgot to tell us that he teaches in a Community College. Which, when compared to the standards in Ghana is like the Sixth form that we had. This dude does not fall into any of the categories that he mentioned. May be, the TEACHER PROFESSOR. Most of these can be found in division 2 and 3 universites and community colleges. All that they do is to teach and teach and teach. They tend to mostly work in non-division one universities and community colleges, like Nassau Ciommunity College. Kwame Ahoofe should for once shut up. He is a teacher, without any publication. If he was teaching at Columbia, he could not be tenured unless he had a certain number of publications in peer reviewed journals. Kwame is teaching English in a place akin to a Sixth form class in Ghana.

  All you've managed to do is describe the functions of different kinds of lecturers whom you mis-categorise as: 'Teaching Professors, Research Professors and Academic Administrators or Administrative Professors.
  
  Doing so, you fail to spell out the fundamental prerequisite to being a lecturer: lecturing, research and publication.
  
  You are however right saying, 'we need to bear in mind that not all the results of research findings of lecturers and professors end up in the form of books and journal articles.'
  
  I have visited Columbia University. It is a good university as you say. But I am befuddled they have a division of academic labour. In England, there are no such strict academic limits. All lecturers are expected to do a round-robin: systematically lecture, research and publish. No self-respecting academic will go into retirement without fulfilling this criteria.
  
  If you are a 'Professor', going into retirement without having published, at least couple of printed books and many academic publications - you fit your own metaphor. You are a 'deadwood'!

  The article in question received 89 comments. No other articles on joy receive so many because they are cut off. It gives the impression Awuni is the most popular writer on joy. Let Okoampa send this article to joy. If he is lucky to have it posted, he won't receive more than 5 comments.
