SAKAWA TITHE ROBBERS IN THE CHURCH
.................................
I thought we've come to the end of our discussion on tithing but some have wondered how the church could be financed if there is no tithing ? They seem to have missed the point about FREEWILL OFFERINGS, by which the Lord Jesus and the disciples were supported. We need to let the people know the truth of God's Word which shall set them free. John 8:32. When the people know the truth, then they can decide what to do with it, but we don't have to lie to them, to fabricate things which the Word of God does not say. While it takes money to support the church, we have no right or authority to put any burdens upon the Lord's people, to threaten them, to intimidate them or bring them under condemnation or guilt or curse them because of tithes. After all, the Lord Jesus died freely for all mankind but He did not demand any money from anyone before He went to the cross ! We should stop evoking Malachi 3:8-10 and other Scriptures to terrorize and bamboozle the Lord's people into giving, but teach them the truth and exhort them so they could support the Lord's work with cheerful hearts, for God loves a cheerful giver. 2 Corinthians 9:7.
Let us examine ourselves to see why we're in the ministry in the first place ? Has the Lord called you ? Did He call you to make yourself comfortable and live extravagantly while His sheep are so poor and wretched ? To squeeze money out of poor people to satisfy your selfish interest ? To build up business empires for yourself at the expense of the Lord's people ? In short, are you in the ministry to FLEECE the Lord's people instead of FEEDING them ? "....should not the shepherds feed the flocks ?.....I will both search My sheep and seek them out." Ezekiel 34:1-11. Did He call you to make yourself a lord over His people or to serve them and lead them to Him ? Leadership is not lordship, but being good examples to the flock of God which He bought with His own blood, feeding but not fleecing them ! Further, is your love and trust in the Lord or in the tithe ?
And for his work, the shepherd( pastor, prophet, apostle, whatever) must be supported by those he serves as undershepherd, the Lord Jesus Himself being the Chief Shepherd. 1 Peter 5:4. Faithful shepherds or ministers who labour for the Lord's work need to be supported, but you don't do it grudgingly and not as a burden, but lovingly as a child of God. 1 Corinthians 9:13-14.
Jesus was supported by some people including Susanna, Joanna, Mary and many others. Luke 8:2-3. The apostles were also supported by individuals and the churches. Acts 4:34-37; Philippians 4:15-16; Acts 11:29-30; 1 Corinthians 16:1-2. The Philippian church was exemplary in giving because they took particular care of Paul's needs, and so should every church, group or fellowship take good care of their leaders who serve them faithfully.
We cannot afford to neglect our leaders who the Lord chooses to labour alongside Him in His vineyard. If they minister to us in spiritual things, we're also to minister to them in carnal things and whatever we could afford, but as the Bible says, we need to do it in love and cheerfully. In giving, let us remember to give our best and not some leftovers, because God gave us His best, His only begotten Son ! Whatever the case may be, we should not give under any compulsion or threats whatsoever.
Even though proponents of tithing cannot prove their position from the Scriptures, many are still adamant in getting the tithe. Instead of repenting from the sin of teaching a false doctrine and robbing and stealing from God's people, they persist in their greed and love for money, and the prophet Isaiah has a timely word for them:
" Yea, they are greedy dogs which can never have enough, and they are shepherds that cannot understand: they all look to their own way, everyone for his gain, from his quarter." Isaiah 56:11.
But now you know the truth, so let the truth set you free, and don't be cajoled into tithing by anyone, be they prophets, apostles, bishops or archbishops. None of them can claim to be better than the apostle Paul, let alone the Lord Jesus Himself. Paul was a Pharisee who knew all the Mosaic laws, yet when it was necessary, he had to "rob other churches," to serve the Corinthians. 2 Cor 11:8. In other words, Paul had to accept support from other churches in order to serve the Corinthians. If the Lord, or Paul or any of the apostles did not collect tithes from anyone, but depended on voluntary support, why should you allow anyone to tell you to pay tithes ?
Modern-day tithing is a false doctrine brought into the church either by ignorance or greed, and has gone on for generations and we don't expect that this brainwashing would disappear overnight. This is just a small start and we're going to keep the tempo till all the greedy and false preachers repent or get out of the pulpits and stop taking the name of the Lord in vain. But watch out, they would come to you with lying words to try and rob you and steal your money:
" But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you....and through covetousness(greed), shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you......." 2 Peter 2:1-3.
Give cheerfully to the Lord's work, but don't be deceived any longer !

T want to know your problem about tithing ? Tell me if it is not in the bible or that those who do not give their tithes and offering are robbing God, not the other way round which you profess. We may have false teachers but Otabil not one of them. You should rather follow his good example. If he has used the tithe money to build a university for our children to get higher education when they cannot get admission in the government universities, is not part of national development? What does the government collect taxes for?, don't other churches have universities, where do they get the money from. Let us stop this hypocrisy and tainting of name of good pastors in this country. Oytabil has done what many pastors cannot do or are unwilling to do.Tithing is not a false teaching, unless you believe just some part of the bible.Do not contaminate the minds of christians not to give their tithe. Let he who thinks he is standing, be ware lest he falls. If you are a man of God, please pray fervently, for God to speak to you.If you care to know, we need money in the kingdom of God to propagate the gospel, whether you like it or not we will obey the word of God which admonishes us to pay our tithe.

This is pure fabrication. A decade or so ago America did not have a black president. There was not even the faintest indication that there would be a black President. Please be truthful.

Shirley Chisholm in 1972 and Jesse Jackson 1984 &1988 run on democratic party for president. May be that is what he was talking about.
On the topic, I don't have energy to talk about it because the NDC fanatics have made up their minds about Otabil and nothing can convince them that Otabil is one person who wants blacks to excel in every area of their lives.
And yes, sometimes I wish he would zip it. For example, I think it was wrong to say that Church leaders do not "force" their followers to pay tithes and collection. That was total bull crap.
They may not do so physically, but psychologically and physiologically, these pastors will drain you till you give your last pesewa. There are times, even when you don't pay your tithes, you can't join the choir, ushering team or any of the ministries in the church.
And the small churches that "forces" you to come to the front to give your tithes and offering. All these are tactics employed by some leaders to force you to give. Because, psychologically, you feel shy to stay there by yourself while others are getting up to go up front to give.
So you SAS is right about pastors not being 100% right. However, it is like living with your girlfriend or wives and always dwelling on the negatives- farting while watching TV or snoring during sleep- and not on the positive sides like, respecting you and your family, managing your finances well or helping you to raise your beautiful kids.
Let radioxzyonline and NDC fanatics continue to denounce him, but to me, he is not probably the best ONLY in Ghana but among the best in Africa and black race.
Read his book "Beyond the Rivers of Ethiopia" and understand his original call and mission!!!
...............
“One of the things that the Lord led me to do was to liberate my people from mental slavery through the preaching of the Gospel and to lift up the image of the black man so as to be a channel of blessings to the nations of the world.”The spirit of racism thrives on misinformation and stereotyping. Instead of portraying people in the likeness of God, it seeks to devalue the worth of people who are different from us as not being as good as us . . .
Inferiority is developed when you do not see what someone else sees, hears what he hears nor understand what he understands nor know what he knows.
So then f any individual or groups of people mean to dominate you they would first endeavor to manipulate what you see, hear, and understand. The average black person will for almost all his life read books which were not written by his people; watch films that portray another race as hero; whose children will play with “white dolls” which then become the standard of beauty and watch cartoon scenes that are not relevant to his identity. Even our Bible Colleges have little or no material written by our own people.“Normally, you do not try to destroy someone who is poor. No one goes out of the way to destroy a poor or weak person.
You have to ask yourself why is it although the black people are supposed to be weak everyone attacks them. They are supposed to be weak, poor and not have anything but it seems that everything is being done to suppress them. Both on the home continent and away there is a “demonic attack from hell to stop Africans from executing their spiritual office. When these people start to stand in that place, there is going to come a light and a redemption to the nations.““The Lord called me to teach my congregation to stop looking to Europe and America as their source of supply but to cultivate a new spirit and ethic of national development. . . I do not believe the church in Africa should be ruled from anywhere but Africa. Our leaders must be home brewed.
Our finances must be generated from the productive work of our own resources. Our headquarters must be Africa! When it becomes necessary to cooperate with other churches and ministries beyond our continent it must be based on mutual respect and love.
People in search of external problem solvers are indenturing themselves to a cycle that will invariably lead to non-productivity.

I am just amazed at how easily and quickly most bloggers on this forum will insult anyone, i mean anyone, including respected people of God without any compunction. Well, let me tell you my impressions of such apology of humans. First of all one of the reasons i came up with why anyone would be that reckless with their pronouncements is bad upbringing resulting in disrespect for fellow human beings. From what is flowing from such people it is easy to conclude that they lack good human qualities namely, respect, consideration and accomodation for others, love and what have you. Secondly, it seems to me that these guys have so much hatred and no iota of fear for God Almighty. They will always hide behind condemning pastors of ill-gotten money to vent their frustrations and anger at God. That is why they are so unreasonable in their logic. Otherwise why would they not attack secular prosperity but have vehement apprehension to men of God prospering? If it is okay for people engaged in physical things to proper, how much more those involved in spiritual matters? And this is because they are so blind and deaf to spiritual matters and consequently have no value for them. But your death to spiritual reality do not negate them. Things happen in the spiritual realm before they manifest in the physical. Be careful then the way you all are quick to say all sort of things about men of God. Do not hide behind these accusations to insult and taunt God. Do not tread on His logsuffering and merciful nature because he will not be mocked forever!

Indeed before him, (and after him) there are many unsung heroes who remain leaders in the church in Ghana, and who like Otabil has done you, have influenced many and continue to inspire leadership in such individuals.
It is a rather dangerous thing in an attempt to defend someone, to over-rate the person in the way that you seek to do here.
A true leader has to be consistent both in their message and how they apply that message. I am yet to see that quality in Mensa Otabil and rather suspect he will never achieve that because he has just reminded me of some of his early mistakes in the 1980s (when I presume you were probably in your "high school days").
We should be careful not to elevate man above and beyond where they really are or should be. We are all by nature, fallible, at times gullible (as I suspect you have been) and influenced by others - positively and negatively.
I would rather that when those we so cherish and respect make a mistake, even we who have been so influenced by them (positively) are able to stand up and say to them - no pastor, you are wrong. You need to be more balanced, fair and consistent.
Otabil in my view has allowed himself to be influenced by politics and party and that is where he seems to have fallen short and his message (however well meaning) seems to carry a tinge of 'sourness' about it especially among neutrals who rather wish to see him change and do better. He is still a good man at heart, no doubt about that.

Ghanaians should face the facts. Our businessmen and politicians invoke negative forces from the second heaven to shore up their businesses and political positions. why is it that in every election year, there are so many instances of ritual murders. can u count the number of cows that were slaughtered by one major political party? Ghanaians must know the difference between religiosity and spirituality. Hypocritically, we troop to churches every sunday, and then the rest of the week we go back to be wallowing in the mud of negative spirituality. the fact of the matter is that our politicians and businessmen have invoked negative forces which have polluted the spiritual environment of the country. Once the spiritual environment is polluted, it is bound to have effect on events in the country. Just before the elections, I had a vision of a dark force descending over the country and I had to exert through God's intervention a raised sword projecting white light to dispel the evil. But it was heavy. What has been the impact, fire outbreaks in our markets and other horrendous events. Ghanaians should not sit down but stand up and cleanse the spiritual environment of the country through fasting and prayer. Anything can happen, unless the Good Lord intervenes. But sometimes God allows things to happen in order to teach us a lesson which will make us better people.
I therefore advise that the prophecy should not be taken for granted. Let us seek the face of the Lord for forgiveness, otherwise we risk losing the country to the negative forces which have been invoked by our politicians and other big men in our society

OTABIL COMPROMISED HIS POSITOON AS A MORAL AND RELIGIOUS WHEN HE MADE A FORAY INTO POLITICS UNDER THE GUISE OF RELIGION. IT IS AN OPEN SECRET AND A WELL-KNOWN FACT ABOUT WHERE OTABIL'S POLITICAL SYMPATHIES LAY. THIS GOES AS FAR BACK AS THE DAYS OF THE PNDC AND IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE BAN ON POLITICAL PARTY ACTIVITY WAS LIFTED. MAYBE, THE SYMPATHIZERS AND SUPPORTERS OF OTABIL FAIL TO ADMIT THAT THE SAME MEMBERS WHO CONSITUTE OTABIL'S CONGREGATION AT ICGC ARE ALSO MEMBERS OF THE VARIOUS POLITCAL PARTIES AND, THUS, ALSO HABE THEIR BIASES, SYMPATHIES, LOYALTIES, ALLIANCE, AFFILIATIONS, ALLIANCES ETC WITH OTHER POLITICAL ORGANIZATIONS AND, THEREFORE, A PERCEIVED "MAN OF GOD" MUST BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL WHEN HE OPENS HIS MOUTH TO SAY ANYTHING WHICH HAS ANY SEMBLANCE OF A POLIICAL STATEMENT. UNLESS OTABIL THINKS THAT HIS CONGREGATION OR GHANAIANS ARE NOT THAT EDUCATED OR INTELLIGENT ENOUGH TO DISCERN THE POLITICAL CONOTATIONS OF HIS STATTLEMENT, THEN HE STAMDS TO GET AWAY WITH THE BIASED POLITICAL STATEMENTS HE MAKES AT TIMES. A RELIGIOUS LEADER OF THE STANDING AND STATURE OF OTABIL IN A SOCIETY SUCH AS OURS DEFINITELY KNOWS THE SOCIAL IMPACT, BOTH POLITICAL AND SOCIAL, THAT HIS UTTERANCES HAVE IN THE LIFE OF OUR NATION. MAYBE, ONE VERY IMPORTANT THING OTABIL FORGOT WAS THAT IN OUR MODERN DAY DEMOCRACY, RELIGION AND POLITICS ARE NOT BED FELLOWS OR THEY DO NOT MIX. THIS, IF OTABIL WADES INTO THE POND OF POLITICS OR STARTS MAKING ANY PERCEIVED POLITICALLY TINGED STATEMENTS HE IS NOT ONLY OENING HIMSELF TO RIDICULE BUT ALSO OPENING THE DOOR FOR THE PEOPLE, MEMBERS OF HIS CONGREGATION INCLUDED, TO QUESTION HIS SINCERERITY AND HIS STANDING AS A RELIGIOUS LEADER. HOWEVER MUCH YU MAY DISAGREE WITH THIS ANALYSIS, I BET YOY CAN NEVER, EVER IMAGINE THE ARCHBISHOP OF NY OR SOME OTHER CITY IN THE USA MAKING SUCH POLITICALLY SENSITITVE STATEMENT SUCH AS OTABIL DID. Thanks for this thought-provoking piece. Ghanaians are not in the habit of seeing the positive contributions of others. You have, and we praise you for this. There are many the likes of Mensa Otabil. Otabil is not in the pulpit for Christ. Jesus and his apostles did not amass wealth. They could have made millions but their goal was not money. Otabil has robed the people's tithes to build a finacial empire.

Of course, he is human with fallibities so must not play God. He rather needs to detach himself from our politics to enable us all listen to his sermons dispassionately.
Brainwash them when they come to you and make them guilty not giving you their money. Otabil has taken the people's money and enriched himself. this is not the gospel of Jesus. Jesus did not rob people. He did not enrich hims ...

Whether Otabil is fake or not, it is for God to judge, not you. Me I am tired of our greedy and mundane-minded get rich quick prosperity pastors.
I'm very impressed with the analysis of Otabil's mission. He is a great pastor who has to make his voice heard at the time the "Nazi" jackboots are taking over Ghana. History will judge him that he did something about the pre ...

You may find him a prophet others think he is a politician in a cassock preying on vulnerable minds. His interpretation of scripture is at best allegoric and he may be a life coach but certainly not a Messiah.

That said, he should also learn from his mistakes and correct them.
Dr you are liar he only need the members money to make himself big you too get away with this foolish idiot talk.
Otabil's 'prophesy' of doom in a month's time is merely leaking an NPP plan he's privy to. Don't you know he's part of the NPP insiders who hatch diabolical plans?
Yes, the man preaches with conviction and his message is full of practical wisdom and down to earth.Hope our young ones will follow this man and apply his teachings to benefit them.
Do you know the meaning of practical Christianity? Christianity is more than how to prosper financially. Check ICGC website and see the mission and vision of the denomination. Compare that with the Matthew 28.
