All blacks were accepted as citizens of Ghana hence the Zongos in every almost every town in Ghana. This is not so in many African countries as you will always be called an alien irrespective of how long you reside in those countries. Nkrumah taught Ghanaians not to discriminate against fellow Ghanaians and Africans, but here we have one ethnic group promoting hatred for other fellow citizens. No wonder the aliens compliance order of Dr Busia which resulted in expulsion and suffering of fellow Africans. Unfortunately any views the NPP dislikes they term it propaganda. Why not counter arguements. The party is full of con men now than before. Kojo Tamaloe, A child of privilege, is the nostalgia of the good old days of your parents hard wired in your brain that you refuse to live in the present and the future? Your write up with its disjointed historical support does not contribute to the wishes you seek. May I remind you of the following historical facts:
1. Wasn't Kwame Nkrumah, your hero and benefactor of your family, overthrown by a gang lead by EWE security personnel ( Kotoka and Harley and Akans) ?
2. Wasn't Apaloo, an EWE and RR Amponsah, Gen Sec of the UP accused of trying to assassinate Nkrumah?
3.Wasn't the Volta Region (land of EWEs) the people who voted overwhelmingly for JB Danquah for president against candidate Nkrumah in the 1960 presidential elections? In fact historically the EWEs and the majority of Akans who believed in the "Rule of Law" as against oppression have been allies. It is elements of EWE and Akans who worked together to overthrow the one party dictatorship of the CPP lead by Nkrumah and brought about the possibility of our ongoing democracy.
4.Weren't the last two successful Coup d'etats, (one overthrew a democratically elected government) led by EWE military or security personnel leadership?
5. Didn't the early make up of the PNDC government included elements of the UP/NPP?
As a long time observer of the Ghana political scene I offer you the following:
A. Outside the Awuna (Anlo) elite who were part of the CPP like your parents and self and Gbedemah, the Akan UP/NPP and the EWEs have been allies.
B. All these talk of inferior ethnicity and tribal expression is the result of political fall out based on expediency of allies that was promoted by JJ Rawlings/Tsikata and others to co-opt or coalesce well meaning and enlightened Ghanaians and the minority ethnics in order to hold on to power. For Rawlings and his gang they put out a collation of the of the CPP base and fanned tribal fears and animosity against the base ethnics of NPP. This was good politics then but what we are witnessing are the fall out with tribal animosity on the ascendancy rather working together to mute its negative passions. This idea that Akans believe that they are superior to other ethnics in Ghana is a propaganda wrapped in an echo chamber effect to put fear in non Akans. It is not the Akans that propagate this. So against their own future best interest EWE's continue, vote 100% for one political party, just like black Americans and the Democratic party in the USA or Unions and their membership for Labor party in the UK. I am wondering despite the EWE loyalty if the NDC will select an Ewe as a flag bearer in the nest 3 election cycle?
The irony is that EWEs need not to feel this complex. As a son of Anlo (Keta) explained to me in exasperation. EWEs are very well integrated in the Ghanaian economy better than any group. They are the Artisans ( brick layers, carpenters, electricians, plumbers, steel benders, etc. Walk into most offices in Accra and Kumasi and you will find more Ewes than other ethics in proportion to their population in Ghana in good jobs. And Ewes inter marry easier than other tribes in Ghana so they are more assimilated. What feed into the fear Kojo Tamakloe expresses is the fact that the Ewes live more in diaspora instead of on Eweland due to the poor soils. So they are forced to migrate to Akan lands where the culture is regimented creating the impression that Akans feel superior. This in truth is not the case is not the case. One does not hear of Ewes being maltreated in Akan land. An Akan immigrant to any ethic land in Ghana can not go show superiority. The locals will run him out.
Regarding security, what is going on is that with the EWE lead government of JJ Rawlings/Tskikata that used State instruments of cohesion and power to brutalize Akans and which benefited Ewes, this group maybe are afraid of loosing control. Go to BNI and notice how may EWE's are in that organization. In a democracy where the rule of law is respected one should not fear for life or property. Due to propensity to inter marry, it would be foolish for any ethnic group to single any Ghanaian for brutality. The NPP were against Kennedy Agyepong's for his stupid utterance.
Now allow me some few comments:
CPP State Enterprises: Time has shown that wholly owned state enterprises is a bad economic idea. None of the GIHOC companies became viable because they either lacked competent management or were economically feasible. Observe that in Russia and China their State enterprises and assets have been stolen by political hacks and crooks as we are seeing in the GYEEDA and the Oil Revenues, and Judgment debt sagas in Ghana. Governments do not create wealth and jobs. Individual entrepreneurs do.
Comparative economic data: Not sure where you got these from they are not correct. China is growing at 8% a year now for example.
Deputy Minister of Education O. Ablakwa's "University education is not for everyone" comment:
I beg to differ as others did. You missed why people came hard on the young politician. Why did the Chinese and Russians provide free education to the University level? Whether citizens chooses to avail themselves of the opportunity based on their capacities is another matter based on their own circumstance. A government leader should never put a limit on its citizens desire to developed their full potential. Our fore fathers use to say it was useless to educate a woman since they are only good to be some man's wife. Did your hero Nkrumah subscribe to that mind set? I find it very unenlightened to defend Ablakwa's comment. He was not wise. He should have said (as someone commented) due to the limited number of available slots those who are not able to get into the Government Universities should try and avail themselves of other opportunities at the Polytechnics and other institutions and attend University when they are able to or when convenient. And that the government is committed to do its best to increase the available slots as we move forward. Those put in charge of education must understand they have the future of the country in their hands. Their thoughts and words must be visionary as we are in a global competition to better the lives of our citizens. Quality education to the highest level is a must to develop the talent of all. Due to Nkrumah's egalitarian education policies and strategic investment in that sphere some of us went to diaspora for University education and have been sending Billions of dollars home over the years that have supported Ghana's economy. We did not allow the rationing of University education then limit our potential. A Developed societies view University education as strategic element for the extraction of their citizens potential and growth to support their economies..
"Forward ever, Backwards never" is an affirmative statement. And my final thoughts are simply this: We cannot do much about the past but we can do something only about the future as today will be yesterday when the sun sets. Let us all do something about the corrupt mentality of our politicians and civil servants, government officials who think they can steal state assets with impunity. All must be held accountable for their stewardship of national assets.
We must also condemn propaganda from any source that pitches brother and sister against other brothers and sisters. Culturally we may be different but we all have equal rights under our constitution. Tolerance of our differences and acceptance of it will move us forward as a people living in peace in FREEDOM and JuSTICE.
(I have both EWE and Akan bloods in my veins)

You came out of the mud houses when your countryman put a gun on the heads of the rest of Ghana and allowed his kin to steal the country blind! You always want it the crooked way - Harley, Kotoka, Felli, Rawlings, Kojo Tsikata, Agama - the whole lot of them. They would not compete fairly for anything, always using unauthodox means. Whilst I do not wish to be drawn on the political shenanigans of any one party in Ghana, you make valid points and cite historical facts about how the 'little money' left in the newly independent Ghana's coffers by the British colonial masters was wisely utilised and invested (yes, invested) in Ghana's future. You and I and many from all political parties are products of that very investment.
I'd also like to mention the many secondary schools, teacher training colleges and primary schools projects undertaken by the Nkrumah government which became the bedrock of our educational system which for decades was the envy of most nations (not just in Africa).
The Senkyi bridge (now a UNESCO World Heritage Site) was predicted by the opposition and the government's detractors, to collapse within a few years and they predicted it would be "washed away" by a single flooding of the Volta river!!!
Low and behold, in 1966, shortly after Nkrumah's overthrow, there was a huge flood (check the records) and everything around the bridge was swept away EXCEPT the Senkyi bridge!!! It still stands today, 60 years on. How remarkable!!!
When people who either do not know the historical facts or choose to continue to spew the old, tired, silly UP/PP propaganda of 60 years ago about the "Use of our money and resources" under the CPP government, I often wonder when these chaps will grow up and realise that lies and propaganda will not develop our country and will certainly not improve my lot.
On the flip side, it is hard for me to lay hands on any list of successful projects of the opposition that have stood the test of time or that have signficantly moved our nation forward. Just think of it. It is equally remarkable!!!

Paul Awuna your are lost in your facts. There is no Senky1 bridge. The bridge you are referring to is the Adomi Bridge near the town of Atimpoku in Akwamuman District (former Mid Volta District). The town of Senchi or Senkyi (sp) is south of that bridge. Senchi is where the original river crossing was with a Pontoon. The above are that FACTS.
Paul and Kojo T you are trapped in nostalgia. Yes , Nkrumah was a visionary and strategic leader and you are right that we have not seen any other leader of his caliber since he was untimely overthrown by a gang of EWE military and police leaders and with support of UP legacy leaders.
Ametewey the police plant at Flagstaff house who attempted to assassinate Nkrumah was EWE. Please do not rewrite history. Elements of EWE leadership and the UP/NPP leadership overthrew the man you admire for his LEADERSHIP, What I have just said are the facts not propaganda.
Paul and Kojo we can allow you your own opinion but we cannot allow you to make up your own FACTS. We can demonized the UP/NPP past until our faces are blue but the historical fact is that UP/NPP and EWE leaderships were responsible for throwing Ghana into economic depression with Nkrumah's overthrow until another EWE blood thirsty leadership came to the rescue to lead us out of the abyss and to the present.
Well that is history. So what next. We as a people, GHANAIANS first, must focus on the future and throw the worst of our history on the garbage dump and move on and stop dredging the past. None of our political legacies have clean hands. Thank you.

Hey KT it is the writer who introduced the element of tribalism in his so called historical diatribe to demonize the NPP that you all NDC propagandist are fascinated by with praise. I read KT's article very well. You guys think you are very smart to use irrelevant history to confuse the uneducated. Kojo's thesis is that we should maintain the status quo of our governance because the NPP is a collection of politicians who have historically have been obstructionist and in effect cannot offer Ghanaians much. The NPP election petition should be dismissed in effect because historically they have exhibited superiority complex and have no good economic or foreign policy vision.
Well,my thesis is that the legacy mindsets of both NPP and NDC are woven from the same myopic and visionless strands of treads. Tha is, Akan and EWE political hegemony and we should recognize and transcend it. I was not being tribal. I was just stating the historical facts in the public domain about these two ethnics that were allies and now are opposites politically.
The demonization of Akuffo Addo and his dead family members and the past political actions of the UP/NPP by NDC propagandist advances no future agenda for our country and must stop. This is 2013 not 1951. Those who care to know the truth of that era can visit the National archives in Accra for the facts. We must not rewrite history to demonize the NPP to deceive.
How do I hope to revitalize the economy. This one is a "lay up" (easy question). I will stop the corruptive looting of our national Treasury (GYEEDA and bogus judgement debts) and invest the funds in our people not the comfort of our politicians who are worthless as to visionary actions. I will foster an environment of wealth and job creation and not stealing of tax payers funds through dubious means as is going on now under NDC.
Foreign Policy ? Does the NDC government have one? My FP is Ghana first. We must not delude ourselves that we have any sovereignty of value other than sending our boys to go die to keep the peace created by the powerful on this planet. A failed State of 57years should not dream about any FP until its house have been put in order and is strong economically. Our foreign policy must be a focus and relentless development of our country. Tell me the foreign policy of Singapore, Switzerland and Malaysia? When we are successful others on this planet will listen to us and work with us rather than trade votes with us at the UN. Tell me the NDC foreign Policy? Peace keeping?
This idea of Pan Africanism has run its course and is dated. WE ARE A FREE PROPLE. We cannot continue to blame the neo-colonialist and their agents (IMF and World Bank) a.k.a "Structural Adjustors" as the reason for our lack of development. What happened to the productive units under JJ Rawlings regime? The structural Adjustors ( IMF & WB) told us to sell them. Right? and we sure did sell for a pennies. No one should tell us to clean our houses to prevent diseases, else foreigners will come in to prescribe incompatible solutions. If we do not want the IMF&WB in the future to tell us what to do then we should learn responsible economic management. Inviting Americans to investigate the recent market fires was very laughable. Our Police and BNI are not competent?
Stop the useless propaganda NDC and friends. NDC and NPP must work together for a better Ghana.

Jerry Rawlings realized these hards facts and had to use his gravitas to establish and implement the IMF package when he realized that there was no way out.In fact the economics credit him for laying the firm foundation for our present democracy. No leader could have taken us through these hardship because he had the support of the army and masses behind him.
Having set the basis satisfactorily for the imf we became their darling and kuffour exploited the goodwill to his full advantage when he came to power.
The Rawlings masses are cpp supporters who are now behind the ndc.Ironically it is the cpp and its support base who are holding the up tradition at bay tactically through the ndc.The struggle between the cpp tradition and the UP tradition continues unabated. The evidence show that the cpp tradition had contributed more to Ghana than any other tradition. Hopefully the dreams of unity on the continent will crown it all.
