At the end of the first part of the "article with the same caption as the present one", the good professor promised to "discuss other aspects of the professoriate that may not be obvious to even the most astute and perspicuous non-practising college graduate". Little did he know that someone would seek to know where he (the good professor) stands in "this schema". And what better way to explain it than to link it with his own stellar performances in academia? How can Okoampa withstand the temptation of talking about himself?
One is tempted to think that, like those public con-men (magicians or peddlers of wonder drugs) who plant accomplices in the public, the good professor may have asked himself his own question for which he already had a well prepared answer. I go die ooo. OMG!!!
If the good professor visits any university in the UK or on the continent, he will realise that "being homilectically "preached" at" does not exist there any longer. Perhaps he may be referring to Ghanaian universities which are confused as to how they mix their inherited "British-oriented mainstream academy" with practices they learned elsewhere, particularly from the US.
Well, why not give us a third article on the topic?

A research group was engaged in a study of longevity in mammals and had recently focused their attention on a particular species of porpoise, which they studied from their floating laboratory off the coast of Baja Mexico. They came to believe that, if fed just the right combination of nutrients, this particular porpoise could, in theory, live forever.
To put this to the test, they studied the world's flora and fauna to see if any naturally occurring organism would fit the bill. They finally narrowed the selection down to an unusual species of mynah bird, and they sent a team of researchers off to gather a specimen.
It turns out that the mynah bird in question was quite rare, living only in a single tree in Ghana. The research team finally arrived at the tree to capture a bird, only to find that the tree was surrounded by a pride of very hungry lions, precluding any reasonable attempt to approach and climb the tree.
A suggestion was made that the lions might be manageable if they could be fed, and a couple of fat Winneba Deer were captured and offered to the lions. The hungry lions devoured the hapless beasts and lay down upon the grass to digest their meal.
One of the researchers then gingerly tiptoed past the lions, climbed the tree, and had little difficulty capturing one of the mynah birds. He climbed back down the tree and walked past the lions to rejoin the group when a game warden appeared and arrested him for (what else)...
"Transporting mynahs across sated lions for immortal porpoises".

The lecturers should quit pretending. What significant research do they do?
They should rather be seeking to increase their pay instead of coming up with bogus schemes to fleece the government.

It seems to me that this article focused so much on spouting off the writer's resume, instead of answering the the question regarding where the writer stands in the typical endeavours of peer reviewed and lauded academics. These days, every Tom, Dick and Harry writes books. One of the factors that separates serious academics from the rest of them, is the type of frontier breaching papers they are able to publish inhighly regarded peer reviewed journals in their chosen fields of expertise. Is this writer up to this standard?

Little thinking so called a 'professor'. I your America experience would tell you that lectures or the for that matter it is the university that searches for research projects and the lecturers benefit the challenges in the various research projects. Tell me how many so called 'Ghanaian lecturers' have really carried out any meaningful research for the benefits of students, our communities and Ghana on the whole. Okoampa, you mean they should receive allowances irrespective of any evidence of a piece of research or allowance for the sake of qualifications and period of lecturing?. NO. no. no Okoampa, research allowances are for research only and nothing else. Ghana government or the Education sectors are not going to hand out allowances to those who carry out no research for advancement but instead rely on old notes and obsolete knowledge which is not challenging and do not enhance our university and high education graduates, competitive!.
