The writer is not a Ghanaian. Zongo is just a settlement made up of various cultures. Zongo is not the identity of the settlers as they all have an identity. If Tanko Ali wants to make Zongo his home town, so be it. I know majority of the Zongolians have strong links with ancestral home town and they always identify themselves with.

You come out abundantly clear that you are a leader, self-made man and one not given to cheap politics and stereotyping but one who allows the facts to speak for themselves. I have seen the future of the new breed of Ghanaians who identify more with their nationality than their tribe. You are one of the pioneers of the new tribe called Ghanaians. Kudos.

Very good and informative article. Zongo has evolve from a place to identity of a people who live in various surbubs of the nation. Locations can be torn down but the identity of zongorians will live on and expand. I hope we zongorians will capitalize on this strength of identity irrespective of where we live to pull ourselves towards success. We are zongolese and proud. If zongolese in Aboubo is hungry a zongolese in Old Tafo should feel for him and vice versa. We are one people with a common destiny.

Yahya, keep it up and stick to your guns! I am a northern and born and raised in Kumasi. I found myself relating directly to the views you expressed in this piece, including the previous ones. Certainly, Zango is bigger than this NPP/NDC and North/South divides that we have unconsciously imposed on ourself. I cannot wait to read your input on socio-political dynamics on Kumasi, as you hinted. You may find very useful Ivor Wilks' the Northern Factor in Ashanti history, Owusu Ansah's Islamic Talismanic Tradition in 19th Century' and more importantly, Enid Schildrout's People of the Zongo: The Transformation of Ethnic Identities in Ghana, as far as the history of Zango community matters.

I believe Mr Yahaya has some college education but he still needs some brushing to do with his English; British or American. Better still, he needs to get some friends to read through his scripts before publication. Another point: this guy is not a real northerner. He is a gari and beans kind of a northerner and has some inferiority complex in his tone. All real zongo people are northern "cast aways" and have no real identities and this guy is one of them. Any way he is encouraged to keep on doing what he is doing because he is educating many Kumasi youth effectively and that is great. I went to Real Amass in the late 60's from the north, went to UST and taught in Prempeh college. I studied some history of Kumasi and as this guy goes along with his naratives I may one day intervene and make some corrections. He is doing quite OK right now so let us watch him.
