I think some argued that certain elements of the law had to be left on the statutory books and this will mean those making a farce out of the Supreme court decision are indeed being dishonest.
I maintain, it was a good decision by the Judges. Indeed, the Judges could have gone for the maximum sentence and it was only the legal wisdom of Mr. Ayikoi Otoo that saved the two.
JUDGES ARE APPOINTED TO INTERPRETE THE LAWS OF THE LAND TO MAINTAIN LAW AND ORDER. I STRESS ORDER.
Many people understand only the law aspect of the courts but very few know of the 'animal' called ORDER.

Braveboy,
You are right in most of what you say here. Criminal Contempt laws are embedded in the constitutions of all democracies. The 9 judges were right to invoke it to save the nation from the reckless public utterances of the politically rabid, who could have plunged the nation into chaos with their irresponsible comments.
However, I think both Sir John and the other culprit should have, at least, got 10 days in jail. There had been a precedent with Kurankye and Atuguba, and they intentionally tried to be controversial to court publicity.
Regards.

Yaw Amofa,
My opinions are valid because they are consistent with Ghana and Africa's economic, political, social and cultural self interest. Thankfully they are not caught in the biases and prejudices of NDC-NPP monopoly politics, and their usual exchanges of insults.
Second, I have sacrificed years of my youthful and adult life contributing selflessly to Ghana/Africa's development and modernisation.
As a student, I cut cane-sugar and helped load them for production at Komenda Sugar Factory during the Ye Ntua days of Gen. Akyeampong's rule. I initiated my local PDC to clean up my community and feed starving school children. I designed public education posters and wrote innovative articles to defend the 31st December Revolution (which ironically was to exile me).
I currently run an educational charity which assists street-based learning through homework support and screening of educational and entertainment movies. And I am still informing, teaching and discoursing in my writings - am I not?
All of my contributions are patriotic and altruistic. Period. The smart thing to do is to either join the discourse they provoke or hold your peace. Being insolent to me has no developmental value. I refuse to fall under the spell of the usual politicised insults.
By the way what have you done to help Ghana/Africa?
Regards.

You could not put Ahoofe and me into the same cauldron. It is clear I oppose his rightwing, anti-Nkrumah politics and pompous thesaurus-aided writing.
If you are not for the right or left, what are you for - the Woolwich? Where do you stand on the scale of national development and modernisation? What patriotic opinion do you proffer? If you do not like public criticisms why do you read my pieces so much you recognise them immediately they are released? Mmm?

What Dr. Agyenim Boateng meant was it was not right for the supreme court judges to act as the police, prosecutor and jury all in one. It can not and should not happen in any democracy. Even the Muslim military officer who shot dead several innocent people in Texas, US, and admitted committing such a heinous crime, was allowed to present his side of the case after the prosecution had presented theirs.Every good lawyer knows this rule and should uphold it.
