If you did a thorough research, then great..you probably missed the point that the players don't make those decisions solely on financial gains.Soccer is a global industry..ever booming.Management trade players before the players realize it.Trading is done based on your input and potential...I will not completely rule out the subject given a chance to input on decisions of trade and playing time...but then if you so prop up for a pricy and useful commodity for use to another team elsewhere..you cannot refute to be sold or otherwise.
A clear example is our own maestro/legend..Abedi Ayew ..he didn't jump to Marseille neither was he discovered outright. He wavered his course wading through tests and trials in countries you wouldn't expect such a talented player to even consider shedding a shred of energy ...to be discovered later. He stuck to basics -keeping his head down, working hard at which ever level...regardless and he came out top notch. It really doesn't matter which level you play...if you are "that GOOD"...you would definitely shine out of the boonies...be discovered and be given the due regard and respect and remuneration...SO it really boils down to your skill, talent, work ethic..according to them you will duly reap rewards.
In the case of financial gains - it is a profession....so if it will earn me a dime ..why not??i do not have to play in a glamorous league to earn that much (Asamoah Gyan)At his pedigree he has all that exposure...been there-played in all those top glamor leagues. If a more paying but less challenged league will pay him the money...WHY NOT???Doesn't he perform come the challenge at National level..?didn't he perform whilst playing in other leagues.....yes...tht means even though the league he is playing in may not be as challenging and not watched by millions around the world ,he still seasoned a striker you count on any day under the sun....So i appreciate your article but i think we should not be bothered too much because the players themselves always are on the cross paths of challenges and those who stay focused on developing their talents and skill and work ethic always spring/sprout out with time.Discipline of the mind is the basic ingredient!
Thanks

If our Ghanaian footballers know that, they will be covered by serving their country after retirement, none of them would have followed money while in active soccer. There are so many retired footballers who are currently struggling to even have what to eat daily and how to take care of their families. This are footballers that had served their country very well to the admiration of all, but were left on their own mercy. So what are you talking about, I do not agree with you in any way, let them look for the money before their retirement, for the opportunity knocks but once. Even you, when you are promised one million dollars to move from Ghana and to stay in IRAQ or Afghanistan for one year, you will not even goodbye your family members you will move as quick as possible. So let them get what is good for them before retirement, for there is surely an end to soccer for all.

For the life of me, I don't know why they are not considering the MLS. They would be better off here, since they would be well received in he USA or Canada. Furthermore, there are better facilities here and better opportunities for them and their families to do other things in life besides only soccer. Also, they could be part of a new wave of other European transplants moving to North America to help in the growth of the MLS.
In fact, in a few hours I would be driving north on Highway 101 to be among the over 60,000 spectators for the game between my team Portland Timbers against Seattle Sounders, which now has both striker Clint Dempsey of Tottenham and Fulham fame and Obafemi Martins of Inter Milan and Newcastle fame. (By the way, we are still going to beat them).
These Ghanaian players should seriously start thinking about checking the MLS out.

Any Ghanaian footballer will move away from the local league because of poor salaries. The best paid players receive like $500 a month and some as little as $100 a month so if a team from even Somalia comes up with an offer of $5000 a month, no player will refuse.

You have raised some interesting points. However, what you are failing to realize is that football, like any other game, is one you cannot play all your life, and so you have to make the most while "you are still hot". You do not know the next game when you would get injured and cannot play any longer. Who would take care of you and your family. For some of us who played in the early 70's, ask how we are taking care of ourselves and our families.

Osei Kofi the dribbling magician could take a ball to the opponents goal and return to the center with ease and shock of his own team mates. Today little is known of Osei Kofi and the rest of what used to be called the Republicans.
If they were paid as they should have, their names will stand on the edifices that their money could have crafted. Money is the goal and it's all about money.

A little dying is ok, after all that's the reason we have all these stomach politicians, miracle producing pastors who can't spell their names, professors who can't speak English and the list goes on and on. Once the window of whatever talent or skill is closed, you are doomed especially if you happen to come from our part of the world! To our footballers, go where the dough is because if you break a leg, you will be left a complete destitute with no one to take care of you! This is simple.

But the question is what is the point in working for a company, sweating, working tirelessly and painstakingly only for the employer to give the top notch position to his distant relation who has no experience yet gets to the position just because his relative is the boss? That is what happens in most of the top notch teams in the top notch leagues, they just would not accept an African if he plays well on top of it, they will not even pay you right. So why not go on to a relatively unknown team that would guarantee you fool time spot on the first eleven and play for the fun of it because its your passion? And you know if whilst having fun all the time the money comes big alongside why not then. Mr. Writer you are asking pertinent questions plaguing all of us because if you have your players playing in top notch teams it raises your image and sometimes your standard. But you see these top notch teams would just want to waste our materials so that during national assignment we would not have our players in optimum combat mode. That is their plan. For instant Adiyiah soon after 2009 was acquired by AC Milan, How often did he play an how much money did he make Zit, Null, Nothing. So so they just look at our potential players buys them and sits them down on the benches just to spoil them when we need them.

Look, a question was asked so why are some commentators becoming offended. It's an interesting question and everyone has to make their own decision career wise, but for the money that for example Wakaso will earn a player from West Brom called Liam Ridgewell (a player none of you have probably even heard of) earns.
West Brom is a lower tier team and can pay one of its average players the same as the money that Wakaso is supposed to be earning in Russia. So it's a shame that such a good player who if he was playing in the Premier League would be playing for Aston Villa, Everton, Newcastle and earning minimum £35k - £45k is going to a league where he won't be able to showcase himself unless Kazin qualify for the champions league.
Good luck, but young players need good agents/advisers and not those just thinking about their cut from the deal.
