A local craft man in a village is better than the whole University of Science & Technology in Kumasi. In Ghana, we have only book engineers, they cannot create or inovate. they are just useless.

What you describe is in London, Norway and New york but they will not employ your solution. Pls u are not an Engineer. If u r, why call on other engineers? do it urself

Is the street the right place to create jobs? Innovation that doesn't add value! Free lesson for you - innovation must solve, at least, a current problem not to create more problems. This not how we develop - selling on the roads?

I agree with you. Some form of trolleys or tricycles will help. Just look at how our women carry things in addition to their babies. I pray that someone takes your idea seriously.

At the station, the three lawyers each buy tickets and watch as the three
engineers buy only a single ticket.

"How are three people going to travel on only one ticket?" asks a lawyer.

"Watch and you'll see," answers an engineer.

They all board the train. The lawyers take their respective seats but all
three engineers cram into a restroom and close the door behind them.
Shortly after the train has departed, the conductor comes around collecting
tickets. He knocks on the restroom door and says, "Ticket, please." The
door opens just a crack and a single arm emerges with a ticket in hand.
The conductor takes it and moves on.

The lawyers see this and agree that it is quite a clever idea so, after the
conference, they decide to copy the engineers on the return trip and save
some money (recognizing the engineers' superior intellect).

When they get to the station, they buy a single ticket for the return trip.
To their astonishment, the engineers don't buy a ticket at all.

"How are you going to travel without a ticket?" says one perplexed lawyer.

"Watch and you'll see," answers an engineer.
When they board the train the three lawyers cram into a restroom and the
three engineers cram into another one nearby.

The train departs.

Shortly afterward, one of the engineers leaves his restroom and walks over
to the restroom where the lawyers are hiding. He knocks on the door and
says, "Ticket, please."

Sir, whose responsibility is it to design and maintain bicycle lane and pavements an communities? I don’t how far you have travelled but trolleys can be hired just as bicycles are hired for various purposes
Please don’t cry but let’s try to manage our own affairs even if, no African country is innovation in logistics. Our GDP can improve if we Create , Research, Innovate & develop ( CRID ) sustainable communities. Thanks Caring.

Have you seen the condition of these "road side" that you propose that these trolleys will be operated on? How much will such a trolley cost? Do you think the average street hawker can afford to buy one? And Yaw you see I did not tell anyone I am an engineer to make any sense. You have made me sad today because I have always have the impression that we engineers are a smart bunch, and so are the accountants, blacksmiths, chop bars operators, taxi drivers.

The matter of youth employment or lack of employment in Ghana is something our leaders have ignored far too long. How can a young man or woman grow up, raise and care for a family pushing a trolley on the side of the road selling tooth brushes and dog collars? Selling on the side of the road will not move our development or economy one inch forward. I am waiting for the day when Ghana can have leaders who are not so selfish that they can come up with solution of creating manufacturing jobs which is the backbone of every economy.

Government has announced that henceforth, the Ghana Youth Employment and Entrepreneurial Development Agency (GYEEDA) will be managed by an interim management committee until a review of the Agency is completed.

Following an investigative report that unearthed rot, including gross financial malfeasance, at the Agency, Government set up a 5-member committee to look into its activities.

After receiving a report from the 5-member committee, President John Mahama announced the Agency would be reviewed.

My first comment is that if you are an engineer and you see a problem, there is an opportunity for you. Second, we don't have to re-invent the wheel. With a little money, namely credit, there will be endless supply of solution. That's the government's job. Third, people who carry things on their heads use the least amount of energy and the US military has studied to see if they can find a way to use that scenario in the military. I am proud that I can carry things on my head and I show it off to my American friends and my American born children sometimes. My most important point though is that it is sad that you find people trying to make a buck nauseating. Accra Mayor will love you. I am proud of them and will join them with no hesitation if I had to. Long live Ghana.

The Architects Registration Council of Ghana (ARC) has inducted 23 new architects into the profession with a call on the architects to be innovative in order to find solutions to the myriad of challenges facing the nation.

The Minister of Water Resources, Works and Housing, Alhaji Collins Dauda, who made the call, noted that challenges such as poor environmental sanitation, building in flood-prone areas, traffic congestion, structural failure of buildings and slum development should be the concern of the inductees.

Alhaji Dauda made the call at the 13th induction ceremony of the ARC which was held at the Ghana-India Kofi Annan ICT Centre in Accra

In all, 23 probationers were inducted, out of 63 candidates who sat for the 2012 Professional Practice Examination (PPE) conducted by the ARC.

A major event on the ARC’s calendar, the induction ceremony bridges the academic and professional life of every architect.

It also climaxes six years of academic qualification at the university, a minimum of two years coaching and apprenticeship under a qualified senior architect, and passing the PPE to gain state licensing.

This year’s ceremony, attended by key stakeholders of the industry and kinsmen of the inductees, saw Ms Afua Asantewaa Temeng adjudged the Overall Best Candidate for the 2012 PPE.

Alhaji Dauda applauded the ARC and the Ghana Institute of Architects for taking initiatives to review the 1969 Architects Decree (NLCD 357) and their inputs into the 1996 National Building Regulations (L1 1630), entreating the inductees to embrace “continuous intellectual development” as part of their agenda.

The acting Registrar of the ARC, Stella Naa Dzagble Arthiabah, in her address, announced that the council would soon make its continuous professional development programme mandatory for every architect, and also collaborate with the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in lecturing in relevant topics in the Professional Practice and Management course.

The guest speaker for the ceremony, Prof. Emeritus Elizabeth Ardayfio-Schandorf of the Department of Geography, University of Ghana, also called on the inductees to strive for excellence in their work.

In his remarks, the chairman for the occasion, Dr Don-Arthur, called on architects and industry professionals to work together to bridge the gap between physical development and the public by involving the public and all relevant stakeholders in the design and construction processes.
