  You state:
  "For example, it would have been irresponsible if the Supreme Court had not acted swiftly and decisively in convicting Sir John for threats hurled at the Presiding Justice, Justice William Atuguba. If the Supreme Court had failed or refused to act, the public would have seen it as a court of frivolities and trivialities. Such a situation would have caused great harm to the integrity of the whole proceeding because Sir John’s contemptuous or contumacious statements were a direct and intentional assault on the court’s own touchline order of June 24, 2013. And I have never doubted the Supreme Court’s plenary jurisdiction or inherent power to summarily try him and the others for criminal contempt of court."
  
  At the same time, you state:
  
  "That is as far as the law of contempt must necessarily go in enforcing the Supreme Court order of June 24, 2013. In other words, the law of criminal contempt is almost extinct."
  My question is, " Are you saying that the law of contempt was extinct but resurrected momentarily to deal with certain members of the society and that it must go back to extinction?"
  Your present dilemma lies in the fact that you lacked the principle to argue against bad law when it was applied against your enemies; and now that it is invoked against those you support, you are raising an objection. The law of contempt as applied by the Supreme Court was extinct, notwithstanding any touchline given, and is extinct if applied to any citizen, including the Vice President. The Supreme Court cannot open and shut the door on bad law.

  Thanks! I totally agree with you. Most of the so-called legal luminaries in Ghana are mediocres. What about Sir John, Yaw Buabeng Asamoah and Akufo Addo himself?

  A very interesting articles. As a layman, I want the lawyers to come here and let us know about their views because the writer has raised some very interesting issues. Ghana has some serious minds. So why are we suffering?

  AB, he has raised some thought provoking issues. If we have to go by what Mr.Ayikoi Otoo is recommending, then most of us are prime candidates for contempt citation and Tsatsu Tsikata should lead all of us.

  But trust me, as usual, we will be driven by our stupidity in not discussing the issue of contempt and its impact on our right to free speech.
