  Strong, professional, independent, impartial and accountable democratic institutions are essential in ensuring good governance, rule of law, political stability and sustained development. The major challenge facing Ghana's democratic institutions is political interference. The country's democratic institutions upon which we depend for the promotion and protection of democracy are far too politicised. Also, not only are the institutions weak and incompetent, but the set up of our institutions invite cronyism, corruption and political abuse.
  
  Whatever our grievances with the EC, the conduct and perception of political bias/biases of the Supreme Court Justices, the major challenge for our Parliament and the nation is how to de-politicise our democratic institutions.
