Your reasoning raises a lot of questions about your qualifications and intellectual integrity. Your reasoning raises questions as to where you obtained your cherished qualification, the subject of your qualification, your level of experience, what you are doing now after your degree, perhaps you are teaching as you are reasoning like someone without real world experience, etc.
Per your own admission Afari-Dyan was administratively incompetent. Administrative incompetence can lead to social tensions, economic turmoil, political tensions as witnessed in the 2012 Election Petition all with negative consequences for the citizens of Ghana.
AFAG was right and whoever calls for Afari-Dyan's dismissal is right. Afari-Dyan has been at the helm of affairs for far two long and he is exhibiting to much hubris and lost integrity. His performance is tainted and lacks uprightness. He needs to be fired and/or banned from dealing with Electoral Commission.
"Dr" Amuna your reasoning is clouded with tribalism, favouritism, partisanship, and hatred for NPP. AFAG was right, the EC needs a radical reform and Afari-Dyan MUST NOT be the person to lead that reform otherwise the reform is not needed.
Afari-Dyan may have a CV enviable by "Dr" Amuna and your kindly, but the CV may like credibility because the quality of work resulting in that CV were not verified. Those tasks put under the scrutiny during the 2012 Election Petition were found to be poorly executed, so "Dr" know that qualifications and CVs are different for doing the job.

There are strong views and arguments on his position from both his critics and supporters. But is the problem of the country's Electoral Commission so much about the chairmanship of Dr Afari Gyan? Will the resignation of Afari Gyan soothe the pain of NPP?
It is worth bearing in mind that Dr Afari Gyan has presided over successful election victories for both NPP and NDC. He has the experience in preparing for the country's elections, and need to be better supported by Parliament, all political parties and civic bodies to initiate transparent electoral reforms to promote the parties and public confidence in the integrity and impartiality of the EC, than a resignation to achieve a any partisan self-interest. Obviously, AFAG believes the chairmanship of Afari Gyan will not inspire NPP's/public confidence in the electoral process. However, once the rules surrounding the elections are clear, workable and agreed in principle by all political parties, the fears of AFAG cannot be justified.
Yes, the Petition exposed some shocking levels of administrative inefficiencies and incompetence at the heart of the EC, but Afari Gyan wasn't found by the Supreme Court to have colluded with NDC or proven corrupt/misconducted himself which could have made his position untenable. Though, he was heavily criticised by the Justices.
The EC being an independent public body, in this case, is accountable to Parliament. It's up to Parliament to exercise its prerogative to hold the EC to account and decide Dr Afari Gyan's fate.

This party and its pressure groups have taken the country by the horn and seem to cower every body who comes on its way even including their great King Otunfor Opuku Ware.His only crime is that just after the elections this party the npp had a big demonstration in Kumasi and wanted to present a petition to him thereby politicizing the stool.He refused to be drawn into politics and had since become their target.If this party could treat their Chief they way they are doing now what more Afari Djan.They see their defeat as his hand work because he did not help them to win the elections and has therefore become their bogey man.
Some of the Judges like Dotse was so coward by these group that he skewed his judgement when some of his conclusions did not match his reasoning.In order to please this constituency he tried to balance his decisions against the npp by a diversionary tactics by denigrating the chairman of the EC just to make the npp happy and he seem to have succeeded. Even though the majority of his decision went the respondents way they seem to be happy with him for at least faking the EC chairman on for them.
Of course clerical and administrative errors happen in elections all over the world and it will continue to be so.That is why we have election reforms after every election in order to make it better.We will not reach a perfect state in our election democracy and these calls are only coming from irresponsible people with sinister agenda.
Every body especially the silent majority is getting fed up and if these people will continue this way I will not be surprise that this silent majority will stand up to them soon.We are fed up with irresponsible political activism.The country belong to all of us and we will not allow action troopers to take the country by storm.Away with them.

I have read the comments of LONTO-BOY and Oknoko palm and I concur with them. Personally, I wish Afari-Gyan will take it upon himself to resign but such commodities are rare in Ghana and the developing world . Since the EC is an independent constitutional body, the government cannot be seen to be interfering by removing its Chairman without good reason/s. The President must have exceptional circumstances or reason/s to dismiss the head of a constitutional body. For this reason the call by AFAG for his dismissal is unconstitutional.
Again, Afari-Gyan is nearly 70 years and will soon have to retire as required by the constitution. He will therefore not be head of the EC in 2016, unless the President extends his term beyond his retirement age. A situation I consider highly unlikely and will be strongly opposed by many.
I agree with LONTO-BOY that Afari-Gyan is well placed to be part or even lead the reforms before he retires. He should definitely be part of the reforms.
My question for AFAG is, if Afari-Gyan is sacked as they are demanding, will they have confidence in the next commissioner who will be appointed by the President in consultation with the Council of State many of who are also appointed by the President?
