" Even before we go into the play-off between October and November, there is the urgent need for the technical team to work hard to get the team into an all-conquering shape".(an extract)
Nogainsaying, we now have the best squad assembled but we deceive ourselves if we think we have a team.
Can we adequately tell the difference?
Here is one:
Whenever you are faced with a knotty dilemma, you always have a clear choice in how you will deal with it.
If you brood over the disappointment, you simply magnify your problems out of proportion. Its like taking a pebble off the beach and holding it close to your eyes. This small stone, when held close, can completely block your view. But if you hold it at a proper viewing distance, it can be examined and properly dealt with it. If you drop it at your feet, it becomes a stepping-stone.
Such is what faces/confronts us, OOPS! I mean, the looming predicament of the MRAA law which appears like solid and a sound document which players can read and get conversant with.
Talents in abundance, we got them po! Onyame ay3 awie, done-deal, but our hopes could be shattered for the very reasons the writer tabulated.
KB says, "appearance could be deceptive". Shall we take cue?
Like the writer bemuzed:, "S3 y'annhw3 no yie a, 3b3y3 y3n s3 sini"
3kyer3 s3, 3nam dodoO s3e nkwan.
It may have to be a fact, or it might not. I don't know yet.
Conceding that, national coaches have little or nothing to do/offer in the transformation of players presented to him to deal with for any august tournament, one like the WC over night. I wonder how a couple of weeks/months could sharpen rusted and worn out players, most of whom virtually, take repetitive respite from the team's bench.
"3fa k3se3 no gyina agofomma no so".
To wit: 2 win or not 2 win solely, rest on the players themselves.
Our players are highly talented in football schemes of work and are eager to go the extra-mile for motherGhana.
They are professionals.
But how skillful are they?
I mean, skills that can outwit the opponent in physical play of the game the way I see other notable players exhibit in the EPL and other markets.
How creative, imaginative and wonder kind could our players be?
The lack of these peculiar qualities in the individual players would at any rate make it difficult for any high class coach to win games/be on top of his profession. Believing that, it is players that win games for the coach and not the other way round.
Students from the tertiary institution knows why they are there. They know their objectives for been in school hence, they make themselves available for every learning situations per the guidance of the tutors/lecturers.
For an individual student to excel, he must pay attention to the lecturer, do own researches and projects, do extra curricula activities most unsupervised in order to attain good results so could the distinction he deserves.
Can we reconcile/correlate the above illustration with what pertains in soccer? As3m-S3b3!!
That is when I would normally ask folks these begging questions:
1.Can coaches teach skills?
2.Players and coach, who win games?
3.We played and lost to Japan thru defensive lapses, focus losses and inexperience as well as goal-tending.
Who do we blame, players or the coach?
4.None of the above
Beats Me.

2). Both, because when teams with almost equal abilities meet, it's the best tactical brain that's most likely to win the game.
3). Blame players, coach and GFA. This is because, the players lost focus to fight till the final whistle. The coach didn't take the match seriously, he sidelined most of our good materials so he can access other players. GFA because, administrative wise they failed to realize that the players will be tired after that long travel distance and having to play such a match in a day or two after.

POWer: Ur GRADING SHEET:
1. Your opening attempt was great.
i.e. skills taught at the tender age.
Unfortunately, you had deviated from the main question. I was referring, as to whether professionals, like those ones who come representing the various nations in Big tournaments, I mean the "big bones", the big spenders, those who control the beautiful ladies of the planet earth, have so many zeros infront of their pay-cheque.
These players have already passed the fundamentals of the game including the said skills growing up, it behoves that these acquired skills are developed by the player himself. Know that, crukerd bones cannot be straithened once they get hardened.
Slimmerzee De DTP, tells me while talent is by nature, perhaps a gift of/from God, the acquisition of exemplarly skills are artificial as one has had to deliberately work on it diligently for them to blosom.
7/10 for the attempt. Haaaaa
2.Who do you refer to as the 'most tactical' brain?
Is it the coach crew OR the entire player package?
Am asking this cuz, no fool plays the game in these modern era. If I should consider/take your answer as correct, it may mean the question was partially answered. In that, even tho both appear to have equally payed a part in winning, the onus of the matter fell one one and one only and not both. You get 10 but deduct 2 for
playing tricks on the examiner. Haaa
8/10. Is it a fair assessment?
See me in chambers.
3.Wrong pal. The business of the GFA is to pre-arrange and arrange. They make it possible for game to come off.
The game took place as scheduled.
Debarring any unforseen circumstances,
the coach gathered his men and made sure they troop and parade the field on the matchday which they did.
Like you said, the rest is up to the players themselves.
Now if for some reasons they failed to click, lost focus and all blablabla why blame the other two agencies who did fulfil their side of the bargain?
It is the players oooo ton. They have failed to deliver. Look nowhere but the door steps of the playing body. They suck. They're mediocre, They are 'nyati-nyati', being "small boys are young". Very Impervious to set of instructions.
They lack the necessary skills to overcome adversity.
Give the coach the necessary tools and see how onders could be wrought.

Seriously, POWer is one of my brightest students. SHe would normally write a whole dissertation on Ghana soccer/player's almanac, from 'Nineteen-Kojohoohoo' to DumsO-Dumso era covering Tim Darba, Kwao Baffoe, Robert Mensah, Ampeh to Solomon Asante, Odjer,Ebenezer Akyampong and all the unborn players with his eyes closed.

In the mean time, I commend her for attempting all the questions.

Changing V to G doesn't/would not make any significant difference. Both originates from hell. That is probably why POWer is sobriety preferred.

1.The coach and the players, who win games? I won't take 'both' for an answer.
2. Can skills associated with soccer be imparted/taught?
"Mmaa no mmienu ho y3f3 paa".

May I start by saying I neither dislike AA or particularly like him. But It seems Ghanaians are very adamant we use a local coach at at all cost, which is also good BUT does that mean we shouldn accept just any thing as long as it's Ghanaian. I wasn't very fond of Rajevac but one thing you couldn't fault him on was the tactical discipline he brought to the squad. I believe that's where our success came from under him.
I agree 100% with this article that watching a Ghana match is a roller coaster at best. Good attack can very quickly turn to an alarming exposure at the back. For this reason, I believe GFA should bring in a tactician to help to train AA and or the team if we are going to do well because all it will take a a creative midfield and clinical finishers ( of which there are plenty i) to pick us apart. Take heed GFA.
The best cause of action would have been to send AA on a proper coaching course and then draft him in when he was ready. But there is no point crying over spilt milk. I have high hopes for Ghana in this WC.God richly bless our homeland.

Just like somebody said up there, the team is going through changes, most of the guys we used to know have faded and Appiah has infused new guys. It'll take a while for them to gel as a team. It's not an overnight dream. As it stands now, our main problem is at the back 4 and that'll take a while too guys. Talking about great tacticians are easy but getting them is a whole ball game. By the way Appiah is improving, I'll say we should allow him go all out. Plavi was taking $50K monthly and we all saw what wen on. I rest my case.

If it were under the Sebians, we would have lost to Zambia in that crucial decider. Why? Because we would have scored only one goal or none at all; and they would have come from behind to qualify. Is this a lie?
I will prefer being always disgraced on the field but come out the winner after the 90 minutes. And you? Always dominate but come out empty handed? Like you did under the Serbians?

Secondary, the issue is not about a local coach but a coach who took over at the time when the likes of Kingtons, John Mensah's Painsils and just to mention a few were fading out.
We must be happy he has injected fresh blood into the team and able to win matches. We should remember after intensive search, we are still lacking players in certain key positions, e.g. the left back, right wing, standing midfielder. The coach has tried certain players but they keep disappointing him. You change a player for a good reason and he decides not to play for the team again. Agaian most of our players are not local like Nigeria or Zambia therefore we need to play together the more to get the team cohesion. We will get there at the right time but lets stop dreaming that we have everything and that we are the best.

I love this comment! You are so right as they need to play more in order to build the cohesive team we all dying to have.
The examples on our lacking departments you mentioned though could be corrected if we switch some players around. Here is an example:
Andrea Ayew was switched from the left wing to the right wing and it worked for us perfectly. I can say for now, we don't have a problem at the #7 position. His back up is what the coach has to search for because both Albert Adomah and Solomon Asante are not that effective.
Harrison Afful can take his position as the right full back so that Wakaso Mubarak could be switched to the left full back position. Wakaso used to play that position for his previous club, Villarreal, before his move to Espanyol. Wakaso is a utility player and can play any area at left side of the field. I'm suggestion that because this switch also could give Christian Atsu the chance to play from the left wing instead of coming from the bench.
Here is another option:
Essien could start as the right full back. this option will allow Afful to go back to his original position, which is the left full back. Harrison Afful is capable of handling that position. Monitor David Addy who has been playing all matches for his club, Vitória Guimarães SC, Primeira Liga (Portugal) so far since the season began. Also keep an eye on Masawudu Alhassan who now plays for US Latina Calcio, Serie B (Italy) for a permanent back-up at the left full back. For the fact that David Addy has not been called yet beats my mind because he is doing so well for his club.
To me, we have the players all we need are scouts to monitor them.

In fact, the scenerio we have now is one that gives us a reality check. There is no easy team in this final ten. Even Ethiopia can beat you if you do play seriously. This is the reality of African football at the moment. In the past, there would be a huge gap in the quality of the seeded teams and the non seeded teams but that is not the case. The only seeded team that can truly say they have better quality is Ivory Coast but even they have demonstrated that they can choke at times.

You are absolutely right. We must make an honest assessment of our current state, instead this meagre progression the next stage. My problem with Ghanaians is their tendency to argue emotionally rather than logically. Those Serbians coaches we had in the past were defensively biased, from a tactical perspective, thus our low scoring rate during their reign. However, the benefit of such posture cannot be underestimated. Ghana never exhibited the naive defending that is typical of African teams, thanks to the Serbians. Today, I see that approach quickly falling apart to our detriment, and we will be exploited to a point of humiliation if we defend the way we did against Zambia. I place the blame squarely on our coach, and no amount of excuse is acceptable, because he had the benefit of working under the Serbian coaches. We must honestly admit, the defensive blunder that led to their Zambian goal would most likely not happen under the Serbians. We won against Zambia, because we kept their defense much busier than we did in the past encounter, thus reducing offensive pressure on our defense. I do agree with you that we must sit up, because there are a lot of "hungry" countries in the next stage. It will definitely not be a walk in the park as people perceive. Teams will be punished by their opponents for silly mistakes and it will even be worse in the World Cup tournament. I hope and pray that we get our cat together in all aspects of the game before facing our opposition. We must wipe the slate clean of any past glories, because it only serves promote a false sense of pedigree and ultimate importance.
Hopefully we will all be celebrating here, when our dear Black Stars help eradicate the perception that African teams only make up the numbers. Yes we can and must win our games authoritatively, if our name is to be etched on people's minds as a great soccer nation.

In the USA game we were better in the first half but bad in the second half and extra time. I think our style now is different and makes more sense. Our football is not as fluid but we are not scared to shoot the ball. It looks like the coach wants to take the approach that we go into games looking to score at least twice. I think that is a good attitude. If we can score twice a game we should be okay. We are not WC championship material yet but I believe we are good enough to get out of Africa. When we get to the WC, we have to hope that someone has a spectacular tournament. I suspect that KASA, Wakasso or Waris will have to rise up for us to do something in Brazil.

But on the other hand, we can group them well to play cohesively enough like the Zambian team if we have a good technical bench. So please lets call the bench to book. they are not doing something they must do. The gelling is not there. The togetherness of a team to fight and finish and is not there. The day the defenders are good, the strikers are bad. When the strikers charge well, the midfielders flop. And when we get a good midfield, there is not goal. Hmm, very technical or else, we must forget excelling at Brazil. There will be teams at Brazil not Players.

I will reluctantly accept your point of view with regards to your allegation of the lack of cohesion in our play. Fair enough, we can always do better in that department. There is no point having a mediocre team that is cohesive, it wont take us past the first round in any tournament, Where has Zambis's cohesion taken them?, nowhere. My point is this, in 2006, we went and entertained the world and got thrashed 3-0 by Brazil, is that what you are advocating we still do? In 2006, we had the skill and cohesion but lacked the defensive solidity and steel that wins teams tournament. We have the skill, we have the class, a bit of cohesion will help, but if you are advocating the free passing game and attacking gunho, then forget it, you do that and you concede goals on the break as Brazil did to us. I prefer the new Italian team model, they attack in a systematic but measured way and get the business down without conceding goals at the other end as they are defensively solid. We are not too far from the other big teams, yes I mean that, not many teams will wish to draw us come 2014 if we get there (which I am 100% certain we will) Our team is almost complete now in terms of the quality of personnel, all we need is a bit of fine tuning and we will be ready to go. We have the easier problem out of the two. We have the little cohesion problem, but we have the quality in abundance. A team like England will kill to have half the quality that we have, so , sorting out the comparatively easier issue of the lack of total cohesion is no big deal. Chill out, we will be ready for WC 2014, not to entertain, but to get the wins. And please learn to give some credit to our team. They deserve it, you asked for a win against Zambia and they delivered, leave them alone for now okay?

Kwesi Appiah's heart is in the right place. He is sincere and hard working. However he lacks the technical acumency of a 1st class coach to help Ghana to shine in Brazil. Let's don't forget that Milo was able to take a less talented and not so experienced set of players to the African cup finals in Angola. I am all for a local coach
but not just for the sake of being local. Our present local coach with all due respect does not possess the technical abilities just yet for the world stage. "when there is not there you can not force there to be"..,,,, Ghana needs a new coach with better technical abilities....

Actually, the Black Stars need more cohesion and tactical understanding in the team especially the defence.
More attention and focus should be placed more on the defence but not relegating the striking force to the background.
Prior to playing the last round of matches, there is a grave need for the technical team to give the team more playing time together by engaging in serious friendly matches. This may afford the technical team to come up with the best pair of defenders - full back, left back and right back and central back.
In addition to the above, the players should be made to practise on set-pieces and counter-attacks and tackling during trainings.
If these are well-implemented, it would enable the team to be poised for more surgical finishing in front of the opponents goals and at the same time be able to ward-off incessant attacks from opponents.
Go the Black Stars and win the two matches and march on to Brazil as the most formidable team representing Africa, amongst the five!!
" Even before we go into the play-off between October and November, there is the urgent need for the technical team to work hard to get the team into an all-conquering shape".(an extract)
Nogainsaying, we now have the best ...
