Nkrumah opted not to change it because it had become official.
  
  If you truly and open-mindedly read his book, which I doubt, you would have taken the pain to check.
  
  In fact, you call yourself a Professor but let me give you one technological idea that has passed you by, just Google 18/9/1909 and you will find the answer. 18th Sept, a Saturday is the best guess and Nkrumah mentioned that in his book.
  
  Nkrumah, like everyone was told his birthday and he took pains to verify it, that is why I said, no one knows when he/she was born because according to the gospel of Bawumia, you and I were not there, simple.

  The British were awarded the right to govern the most part of the current Ghana in the Berlin conference of 1884 yet if you decide on entitling the first European to have had some contact and administrative post in Gold Coast, then I would award that to the Portuguese who preceded the Danes, Dutch before the British.
  
  It is shocking that while a lot of these Western Historians prefer to re write history to hide their hideous crimes in West Africa, an English Professor, as you claim, who should just keep to his Grammar and Comprehension has decided to take on history without understanding.
  
  Leave the history to those who know where to find the facts, link the facts and deduce the truth.
  
  Ghana was founded by one man and it is simple. Some persons like your uncle suggested the name yet it was up to the people of the Gold Coast to choose who had to reclaim the nation from the invaders. Yes, invaders. I guess you never thought of such.
  
  You set about to prove why the British founded Ghana, yet you rather chose to accord the fateful day your ancestor and the other five were arrested for a crime they did not commit.
  
  In fact, your ancestor truly denounced inciting the people and was freed, but one man chose to stand with the people and was rewarded by the people two years after to lead them to Canaan.
  
  Now hearing of the name, Canaan, I entreat you to ask your Jew friends the question, who found Israel. Is it Moses or Abraham.
  
  Let me help you here, since you so desperately want to claim the same ground of founder as Nkrumah for your ancestor.
  Why don't you try and claim the hot ground as 'father' of the nation of Ghana(which Nkrumah would not contest) but I warn you, there are great competitions, such as, Casely Hayford, Kwegyir Aggrey, Paa Grant.
  
  Our independence was achieved because of a sequence of events and forces behind what your ancestor could dream of. For starters, the USA wanted the UK to relinquish her hold on the world economy, so the milking cows(colonies) could to be shared.
  
  The US took advantage of the end of the WW2 and the setting up of the UN to pursue their agenda to freeing the colonies and hence participate in the milking process.
  
  In 1948 C. Attlee a labour leader was in office in the UK. Labour wanted the colonies freed and replaced with the new commonwealth association.
  
  The people of the Gold Coast were becoming aware of the strangling hold of foreigners on their economy and with the death of Charles MacCarthy and the aftermath, they were not ready to endure that agony again.
  
  Nkrumah having traveled and studied abroad unlike your ancestor knew the fine balance and cleverly rescued our beloved piece of the world.
  
  You set out to award your friends(the British) the title of founders of Ghana as your headline poses, yet you diverted to establish the day or dates leading to the arrest of the big six.
  
  I noticed, your lack of historical facts and uses. A holiday must be a specific day, yet you chose to replace the 21st September with a whole year, 1948. Let me give you the run down of historical events.
  The riot was on the 28 February 1948 and the arrest was on the 12th March 1948. If we celebrate independence day on 6th March and then have a pick, which other day of the two above is more relevant to be added to 6th March.
  
  Proponents of Nkrumah's ideology chose to use his De facto birthday as a day to recognize his no mean achievements which you and your accomplices have tried hard, yet in vain, to denounce and renounce because life is sweet for you and you therefore have no conscience but to sit there promoting the very capitalist ideas that has so decimated the God given talents of an entire continent. One sentence, the Congo and Nigeria since you called Russia and China.
  
  You do this with a complete mind set of disrespectfully trying to claim Lordship over your own flesh and blood( and please throw away your royal blood accolades you so often wear on your sleeve).
  
  Our people chose Nkrumah to take them into the promised land, not once, not twice but thrice.
  
  Your ancestor holds a relevant place in Ghana's formation and history, yet as long as, you guys remain on the path of rewriting history and denigrating the image of the people's hero you and your accomplices will get your coin back in kind.

  Ghana is a rare noun and has baffled a lot of researches for a couple of times now. The present established fact suggests that Ghanaians migrated from North-West and a bit Eastward direction around the Niger-Congo River. It is believe that the name came from the then Gana Empire which was covering Sudan-Mali area.
  
  Prior to colonialism the actual name for present Ghana is still not known. The best stance to argue this may be that Ghana then was not a national unit and however had no unique name. Major parts of the territory were controlled by the Ashantes.
  
  Ghana which was known as Gold Coast was changed to Ghana after independence by Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and Dr. J. B. Danquah. According to authoritative sources, the name Ghana was adopted after thorough research into the history of Ghana dating way back as mentioned above. But some still doubt this fact and believe G.H.A.N.A means God Has Appointed Nkrumah Already or for Africa ; and sure he is now the father of Africa.
  
  Those who adhere to the latter view debate that Nkrumah's humanistic ideologies and ambition in a United Africa drove him to center himself forever. Further the 'h' which is in Ghana suggests a clue to support this fact since Nkrumah and Danquah will not make a mistake to westernize the name from Gana to Ghana.
  
  Those who believe Ghanaians descended from North-West which is in agreement with why our name was change from Gold Coast to Ghana say that the name Ghana has some similarities in certain cultures around Ghana. Some believe that Ghana is a compound word [Ga-na] which means 'warrior king' which is a word derived from Ouagadougou. This will mean that Ghanaians are originally from Burkina Faso where we can find traces of such semantic phrase. Further they also believe that there are huge similarities in culture, history, language etc.
  
  My purpose for writing this piece is to call for a more valuable and well researched work on how Ghana came about. All the history behind Ghana does not really make any serious sense and little references are provided. It seems closer to oral tradition than facts. I can argue this:
  
  1. Rarely will one find in African languages 'h' following the consonants 'g' or 'k' e.g "gh" or "kh" It's only in Semitic rooted languages like Hebrew, Arabic, Persian etc. we find such in transliterations. If we are do disregard the latter fact then the name has some Arabic connotations. The only argument to refute this fact is to say that the word has had European redaction or it has evolved. For example, Ashanti. With the "h" every historian will know that the word has undergone through metamorphism. The name is actually Asante hence Asantehene. In the case of Ghana it is not possible since contemporary and conservative Pan-African scholars came up with that name. If we are to take Ghana as like Ya-Na or Na-Na then Ghana might originally be Ga-Na [Gana] other than that the 'h' means a lot in rediscovering the meaning of Ghana.
  
  2. The true established Ghanaians in the pre-colonial are the Akans and specifically the Bono's. It is believed that the Bono's have settled in this land as early as in the 11th and 16th Centuries. Ga people crept in later. Ewe people were then part of Togoland. Northerners joined in through tribal wars and national demarcation. The Akan language has its roots in Swahili and Arabic and has Hebrew semantics. In Hebrew, most of the words are the same as the Akan. In religion the Akans are close to the Hebrew religion. The God of Saturday which is Kwame Tweeduapon has to do with the Hebrew Sabbath and Creator. Moreover, research has shown that traces of the Kente cloth can be found only in the traditions of ancient Israel. Therefore, Akans might have come from Eastward direction to form part of the Niger-Congo River civilization. Bono people must have something to tell us.
  
  3. I think Dr. Nkrumah and J. B. Danquah made inferences based on a biased historical point of view. The languages of Ghana can be divided into three based on similarities: Language spoken by Northeners, Ga and Akan. NOTE: Volta Region was carved from Togoland. When you study these languages critically, one may note that Ga has some close connection with the Akan both in rhythm and some vocabularies whiles languages of the North are far different. Even their language is not near Arabic. If Ga people are supposed to have descended down from Niger-Congo River, then they might have been descending to Ghana at a latter period.
  
  4. Before colonialism history was coned in mythical stories, it however becomes difficult when one tries to establish the true roots especially among indigenous traditional Ghanaians. Even the supposed name Gana Empire has no obvious clue in our culture. But no matter how difficult it is, modern scholarship can help to discover the true history of Ghana and its name by doing a linguistic or semantic research.
  
  5. If Ghana and certain parts of West Africa countries descended from the Niger-Congo River civilization, then the question is who came to this part first, Ouagadougou, la Cote d'Ivoire or Ghana? Questions like this should help us to rediscover the meaning of Ghana. The Akan language is recognized as one of the major Niger-Congo River civilization languages and yet has no etymological traces in Akan traditions.
  
  6. What is the actual date that Gold Coast was changed to Ghana. Many say it was after our independence in 1957. But on the 6th March 1957 the name Ghana was mentioned by Nkrumah in his independence address. So when actually?
  
  My presuppositions may be faulty but I do hereby challenge researchers and historians to get into the matter once more to unravel the true meaning of Ghana to the people of Ghana. If it is as supposed God Has Appointed Nkrumah Already or for Africa then let's settle it there and officially accept it in our books. If we can't find a substantially and solid historical foundation then it's time we go back to Gold Coast! But believe me what we know to be Ghana is debatable.

  Well, it's so obvious you are loosing sleep over his achievements and can't seem to understand how and why - Osagyefo did not allow your ungrateful lot to use him for your political gains........He was too smart for you lot.
  
  After all the free education, free school feeding and free health care he provided you and your ancestors with; you and your cronies have taken upon yourselves to be ungrateful to this GREAT man.
  
  He even chose to jail your people who terrorized him. You should be grateful because others would have blown them up.......................Now you claim the British founded Ghana.
  
  Oh! Kwame! your delusion is clearly exposed here. One minute it was the so-called Big Six and then Nkrumah, then not Nkrumah; but now the British?
  
  Is that why your ungrateful lot run back to the British to reverse the decision of giving us independence?
  
  Why then, did you ask Nkrumah to come over to the then Gold Coast to help fight for independence, if we were not ready for it?
  
  Well, I don't get! I guess the delusion runs in the family then. (No offence there, Kwame). I just don't get it! Please show some gratitude for what Osagyefo achieved for you and your entire family.

  What this piece from none other than the incorrigible Ghanaian transplant to the USA Okoamap-Ahoofe show is an insecure self hating classroom educated illiterate claiming to be free but still shackled intellectually. Okoampa-Ahoofe decided to be successful at two things; learn his master's language and specialize in the art of creative writing which is nothing more than people with great imagination that allows them to formulate lies capable of convincing less talented people into believing their crap.
  Okoampa-Ahoofe believes in things presumed to be created by Europeans and not by blacks; he believes in blacks fighting over crumbs something he is good at. His gang of heroes have fought to be second best to our European masters and hates for anyone to dare point to a real African the likes of Kwame Nkrumah for whom the world over do appreciate and recognize for his contribution to the development of Africa. Okoamap-Ahoofe knows his heroes and tribesmen cannot compete at that level except play second fiddle either to the colonial masters and or to Nkrumah. Okoampa-Ahoofe may try to rewrite history but he cannot because fortunately for mankind Okoampa-Ahoofe's books and or articles are not used as instructional material anywhere; not even in his Nassau Community College. He has never moved on to any elite school because he is not at that level; he can continue to play second fiddle as his heroes.

  When I saw the by-line to this article, I thought it would have been written by Dr. Okoampa-Ahoofe - even before I opened it to read. I generally agree with the essence of Dr. Okampa-Ahoofe's articles, but on this one I disagree. I must say that in reading the article itself, Dr. Okampa Ahoofe himself states that the British cobbled together the geographical reality which was the Gold Coast. However, it was Kwame Nkrumah who founded Ghana, whether one likes it or not. The distinction in names is significant. I remember, as a little boy, the election in which the people of the Volta Region were asked to choose whether to join the new nation "Ghana" or to separate themselves. With the help of people like Gbedemah, the CPP was able to get a resounding "YES" for the Volta Region to be part of the new Ghana. It was Kwame Nkrumah who signed the legal papers which was the basis for the British Government turning over the administration of the old Gold Coast to the new nation "GHANA". Make no mistake about it, other people helped Nkrumah - people like Ako-Adjei, Kojo Botsio, Krobo Edusei. We have to be willing to give credit where credit is due. You can despise Nkrumah all you want but the reality cannot be denied.
  Founding Ghana is a whole separate subject than whether or not his subsequent administration was enlightened. I am intensely anti socialist, and I remember some of the excesses during Nkrumah's last years but I give him credit for what he was able to do.

  Busia and Danquah lost elections to Nkrumah and the CPP from 1951-1966. They consistently received about 10% of the vote from Ghanaians; they were consistently rejected. Ankrah illegally took power and appointed Busia and Akuffo Addo as the NLC Political Committee with NLC Decree 59. They served under, and was paid by the NLC from 1966-1969. Then the NLC appointed a Constituent Assembly with NLC Decree 380 to make themselves the Chairman and Deputy Chairman of the Presidential Commission to "decide the functions of the President," under the 1969 Constitution. This maintained the dominance and control over Busia and Akuffo Addo by Afrifa and Harlley. The entire time of Busia's political leadership was under the control of NLC military dictators. Kuffour was prisident under a constitution decreed by Rawlings and drafted by his appointed Consultative Assembly and Committee of Experts with PNDCL 282 and PNDCL 253, and signed by Rawlings as Chairman of the PNDC.
