  Government's overwhelming control over the pension fund is at the root of this problem. I often wonder why SSNIT cannot be run like a limited liability company where every contributor is a shareholders. In such a situation the board will be answerable to the general assembly and the chief executive's appointment is not linked to political patronage.

  When there have been various increases
  on salaries, utility services, transportation etc., what corresponding mitigations go to the pensioner who has dutifully served the nation and is now weak at home on retirement?

  Please present your issues in plain simple english so that the poor man can understand.

  What needs to be done is to have a system such that on retirement, your pension goes straight into your bank account. Nobody needs to go to Accra to follow up payment.
  That is what a civilised country will do
