  I think Jake and those who think alike are confusing the two to be one and the same. In deed there is a big difference between the founding father of a nation and the first elected president of a nation and when the later is construed as the former therein lies the misrepresentation of historical facts of ghana. The question is,is it the independence that gave birth to Gh or the processes which led to the independence. Dont forget that it was the partationing of Africa that largely defined the geographical boundries of African states but it was the forsight of great african leaders to commence the fight for independence that gave birth to morden states of africa regardless of who eventually emerged to be the first elected president granting that the transistion of transfer of power was through an election. Further more for those who continue to claim Nkrumah is the FOUNDER of Gh, would they have accepted a different personality as founder of Ghaha supposing at the last minute for some good reason Nkrumah was not able to contest the elections and allowed somebody else to do so on the CPP ticket who in their mind would deserve to be the founder of ghana, that person or Nkrumah.

  It was Paa Grant (rich nationalist merchant from the Western region) who invited and paid for JB Danquah and others to form the UGCC after the pioneering Ghana independence movement commenced by the Fantse Confederacy (FC) of Fantse coastal Kings over lands rights. The Aborigines Rights Protections Society (ARPS) joined the FC - it was co-chaired by my granddad, JP Brown (pioneering journalist, lawyer) and JE Caseley-Hayford (lawyer/Pan-Africanist):
  
  ‘The Gold Coast Aborigines' Rights Protection Society was an association critical of colonial rule, formed in 1897 in the Gold Coast, as Ghana was known. Originally formed by traditional leaders and the educated elite to protest the Crown Lands Bill of 1896 and the Lands Bill of 1897 that threatened traditional land tenure, the Aborigines' Rights Protection Society became the main political organisation that led organised and sustained opposition against the Colonial Government, laying the foundation for political action that would ultimately lead to Ghanaian independence. J. W. Sey, J. P. Brown, J. E. Casely Hayford and John Mensah Sarbah were co-founders.’ (ARPS, Oviguide.com).
  
  It was Paa Grant who invited and paid the air fare of Dr. Nkrumah to come to Ghana from London. After the ARPS, Paa Grant formed and funded the UGCC, by first inviting JB Danquah, RS Blay, Ako Adjai and others to Sekondi in 1947:
  
  “In 1947, he [Paa Grant] conceived the idea of forming a political movement to fight for the eventual independence for the Gold Coast...Paa Grant therefore discussed his ideas with some prominent lawyers...Thus, the United Gold Coast Convention was born with Paa Grant as its president, supported by Mr R.S. Blay as his first Vice, Dr J.B Danquah, as his second vice, and Ako Adjei, secretary...Paa Grant remained the main financier of the UGCC and it was he who sent £100 to Dr Kwame Nkrumah to come back to the Gold Coast to take up the General secretaryship of the UGCC" (Paa Grant Honoured, Daily Guide, 21/3/07).
  
  Hence, what you write here is part of the NPP's ideological revisionism that is now trying to confuse young people about Ghana's real history.
  
  Every sane and matured Ghanaian will know Dr. Nkrumah the Osagyefo founded Ghana.
  
  The NPP's Prof. Mike Ocquaye and Nii Ayikwei Otoo are so stark nakedly bankrupt in reasoning that they point to a strident level of embarrassment in debate. They are the leading revisionists whose argument rests on the intellectually unsustainable premiss, that because the UGCC preceded the Osagyefo's CPP then they must have founded Ghana. This amounts to secondary school debating society reasoning!
  
  If so, then I ask logically: if a bus driving from Accra to Navrongo stops at Kumasi, Sunyani and Tamale to change drivers, which driver must finally be credited with taking the passengers to Navrongo? You are just tagging along with them he righwing, neocolonial NPP leadership.

  Sadly for Africa all the leaders followed his evil example and thought that was the right way to rule in Africa. And today Africa is still suferring from the demonic example by Kwame Nkrumah. No wonder his own son Sekou hates the evil CPP

  How can one person found a nation? Look at the US, they say something like "the founding fathers" and never refer George Washington as the founder of the United States. How can Nkrumah alone found Ghana? History says that someone paid for his trip back home to join the struggle towards independent, meaning people were in the process already so, he was just a late comer. If he was invited to join the independent struggle on someone's bill, how can he be the sole founder of Ghana? I think we should put "partisanship" aside and honor those who were knee deep in the independent struggle as "Founding Fathers" because Nkrumah did not commence the independent movement all by himself.

If you really read the US history you will come to understand that at the time they were fighting for their independence, there was no political party. I do not think this has really registered with you. they can talk of founding founders because they were not divided politically. Our path to independence was predicated on two political parties with two different ideologies of independence within a short possible time and independence now. In the long run, independence now won. Why are we trying to give that credit to the opposition?It is really amazing how we can bend our thinking just to justify our cause. The CPP founded Ghana under Kwame Nkrumah's leadership.

They were elitists who were afraid to go to jail and Nkrumah the American trained radical proved to them that, to attain freedom one has to fight for it from the bottom up and from the top down.   All these actions and inactions of the
  UGCC and the Danquahs (a bunch of lawyers) goes to show how they were actually scheming and jostling for positions, instead of fighting for our independence.
  
  They invited Nkrumah over to do their dirty work for them. And Osagyefo being so smart and wise left them to form the CPP and the rest is history.
  
  THANK GOD FOR NKRUMAH!.........If it wasn't for him, these lot (a bunch of lawyers) would have sold us back into slavery. Their tradition still continues and their children are still following the same trend............
  A bunch of lawyers holding Ghana to ransom for 8 good months.
  
  However, it takes two to tango....so the other USELESS party - NDC have also joined in with them and doing NOTHING for Ghana. NKRUMAH NEVER DIES!

  One thing we should know is that the British did not have full control of the Gold Coast.We had many Europeans at the same time the British were in Cape Coast and some few coastal areas.We had Dutch Gold Coast,Danish Gold Coast etc until 1874 when the the Dutch and Danish sold their forts and castles to the British.The Fantis,Denkyiras and Gas signed lot of treaties with the British to protect themselves from Asante incursions.The famous Bond of 1844 gave the British authority to use Common Law of Britain to judge in murder and robbery cases only but our chiefs did not agree to hand over their Land Tenure to the Crown.My mother told me that the chiefs had a clause in the Bond of 1844 that mandated it for a renewal after 100 years.I am yet to find out the veracity.According to my mother,Kwame Nkrumah used the clause in that Bond which expired in 1944 to advance his cause.What is also true is that the British conquered the Ashanti capital but did not conquer the coastal and some inland areas where they excercise their trade.Therefore,they were here as traders in the name of Association of African Companies.The colonisation took some kind of informal procedure.Thank you.

  May be like many people you feel like spewing something because you have access to the computer and the net. But I would advise that this forum is for serious and committed people who want to educate and share knowledge. It means that a lot of research is put into the meaningful articles or views expressed on this forum. The forum is not for the unintelligent, fabricators, the intellectually lazy and those wanting to re-write history fraudulently, without facts or challenging logic.
  
  Anyway, if you are a Christian Mr Addo who is our saviour, Adam, Eve, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, John De Baptiste, Moses, Joseph, Maria, Joshua, Aaron, Noah etc or Jesus. May be philosophically, this must be too much for you. Think wisely.
