The facts of the matter written about started happening over 1000 of years ago. So, if I quoted books written on the subject up to the 1990s and used an edited article written in 1995, now that it is 2013, what I expect a scholar to do is to quote recent publications to negate what I wrote, if indeed, there are new literature negating those claims. Of course, no new version of the Qur'an has been written since the illiterate Mohammed allegedly dictated one to the Ethiopian who actually
indoctrinated him!

As for you low lifers hiding behind monikers attempting to insult me, you are not up to my pedigree in any yardstick! Your insults don't even prick my skin. I know whom I am and who born me! I know what percentile ranking I belong to thru'out my education, from Ghana to Europe, so I am never intimidated by anyone claiming to be educated with a PhD. I was at one time reading PhD dissertations and making comments before defence. One lady who stopped giving me the scripts to read through made a grievous historical error in her dissertation which her Norwegian supervisors couldn't dictate. And I was reading through papers for Profs, who were always grateful for my insightful comments. One of them, with two PhDs, one in Archeology and the other in Law, even acknowl. me in his article which I found on the Internet! Akadu, who has acknowledged?

I can trace my descent to several centuries back to kings who ruled over all Ewes from Nigeria to Ghana before they broke up into their distinctive states today!

Not only that. My ancestors were at the table when modern Ghana was taking shape in the C19th! Where were your ancestors? Which dogs born born you? My Royal Adzorvia Clan produced some of the giants of Gold Coast scholarship, as we supervised the expansion of education of education in the whole of Eweland, making Ewes foremost in many fields of learning today in Ghana and beyond. When Torgbui Sri II (private name, Cornelius Kofi Kwawukume) died in 1956 at a very ripe age, he was celebrated in Lome, Togo, the centre of The Gen-nyi state, former enemies of the Anlos, just as much as in Anloga! That's the ancestry, pedigree and tradition from which I came.

Now, the issue of this topic is clear. If I had written anything foolish and wrong, prove me wrong! After all, one person doesn't have the prerogative of knowing everything there is to know. I relied on serious scholars and quoted them to back my claims, which are their claims too.

And for those of you who are skeptical of European authors. just produce what your great and illustrious ancestors recorded for posterity! Barely educated people that you are, you never heard of verification and refutation in academia.

Tweah! Uncivilised backward people! That's why the Arabs, the Europeans and now the Chinese, shall continue to rape and exploit us and treat us like dirt in even our own countries in Africa!

It is sad that, like the author of the article, you have bought into the fraudulent, reductionist narrative of Euro-American revisionists and anti-reparations forces, blaming Continental Africans themselves for the slave trade. Even though anti-colonialist heroine, Yaa Asantewaa, was born (circa 1840) after the enactment of the (British) Slavery Abolition Bill of 1833, she represents continuum of determined, conscious and militant Asante resistance to the European invaders and debunks the false generalization that the Asante Empire was a partner in the Transatlantic slave trade. Indeed, there appears in the New World itself militant women and men of Asante origin (some royal) who revolted against slavery in long-drawn wars of liberation. Nanny of the Jamaican Maroons (said to be actually named "Nana Champong") is one example. Harriet Tubman of the USA is another, a slave of Asante descent who not only freed herself but her entire family and many other enslaved men and women.

The point I wish to make - and from the evidence - is that one cannot generalize and accuse the victims of slavery of collaboration in one one sweeping whoop. Yes, there were some chiefs and merchants who did engage in the evil trade out of the capitalist impulse. But that cannot be generalized to mean ALL chiefs and merchants etc participated. And above all the general populace, the powerless masses, if you will, did not plead to be sold into slavery. The evidence points also to other Chiefs and ordinary people who fought against the European slavers. King Ackaah of the Nzimas was notorious for his cunning, deceit and cruelty to the European slavers. We have even in recent times been made aware of King Bonsu who despised the European slavers so much he decapitated a senior Dutch official sent as an emissary to deliver a message and paid for his action literally with his own head also.

While the Asante Empire practised internal slavery over war captives (and this can be viewed dialectically in terms of the feudal structure of that society), when it came to the Transatlantic slave trade, their participation was limited and tactical. The Asantes would sell war captives sometimes to one European country to obtain arms in order to fight a more potent and dangerous European power. For example, they sold slaves to the Dutch in order to gain munitions to fight the British. Indeed, Professor Akosua Perbi of Legon, has written that the incidence of slavery rose whenever there were more guns and gun powder being sold by the Europeans, and similarly declined when there was a shortage of guns and gunpowder!

By no means, do I - a non-Asante, by the way - condone any form of slavery. But the Western revisionist attempt to place responsibility for slavery squarely at the foot of Continental Africans must be exposed and shattered dialectically and not pathetically accepted by those who are blinded by their own tribal primacy consciousness and have degenerated into ethno-neurotic ramblings.

Yes, a lot of atrocities have been committed against some Ghanaians under the PNDC of JJ Rawlings. Many of those atrocities actually started in the VR and many people were touched, including even our late Awoamefia Torgbui Adeladza II who was manhandled, slapped and nearly killed by the Amedeka Gang!

Mawuli Goka was not only my mate in Mawuli School, but we are related somehow. My snr. sister should how since she was the one on nickname terms with the father. Admiral Joy Amedume was a fellow Adzorvia clan member and the father's house is just separated from that of Torgbui Sri II by a road, whereas another family house is actually attached to theirs.

I've never supported the PNDC and stayed in Nigeria and been outside Ghana since Sept 1981. I don't even support NDC, which everyone who knows me is aware of.

What abhor about you real ethnocentric and mentally jaded opponents of the P/NDC is to equate the actions of the P/NDC to the actions of Ewes, and then start insulting Ewes ad nauseam!

As for Awoonor, he was no bigot and posterity shall prove him right. He simply wrote against the targeting of Ewes by Akans and some Asantes of the Matemeho tradition. It is 'cos of stupid persons like you that a friend and a relation, an Adjunct Professor in Norway, insisted that we should do PhD if we intended to return to Ghana one day and work there. He used to read Okyeame postings and lament about what some with PhDs post. You are very typical of such narrow-minded and ignorant people who can't even spell their names correctly claiming to have a PhD! He'd say, such people would be put over you if you return home without a PhD! That's the only reason why I wanted a Phd again, having scored negative on all the 5 qs in the book, How to Get a PhD or not Get One, [hope I got it right] and abandoned the quest long ago.

My snr brother just saw them for what they are at close range: hollow! I won't mention names but some have been advising govt since 19 krebetihoho! They'd read his book critising the oil agreement sell-out unleashed upon us, and cop out by claiming that was not their area of specialisation and so couldn't make an informed opinion. We have been done for! I had to calm him down as he was dismayed, telling him that a PhD only give you the chance to specialise in a narrow field of your subject of study, say Econs. A sophomore studying Petroleum Law can therefor know more than a PhD in Econs. But there is Internet these days they can check on some of those things, he retorted? Bah! He didn't know that he was dealing with developing people, not civilised people like him and myself!

You see, I already knew about that problem of our so-called educated people by speaking to some uncles now dead, etc., about the failure of the Ghanaian elite to bring positive change about since indep. One who was with the Stats Service said that he had just completed his 1st degree when Ghana got indep. and he returned to serve out of patriotism in spite of the pleadings by his supervisors to do his Masters at least, since he was very brilliant. He claimed he had traveled the world and presented papers and been offered posts abroad but when people found out that he didn't have a PhD., they'd balked. Upon his retirement, he picked up one with the Univ. of Columbia, which he proudly showed me, and advised me not to return to Ghana. "Had your father and ourselves not sacrificed enough for Ghana?", he queried. "You come from an educated home and background, that's why you are thinking like that!"

Again, what manner of African in his right mind, would proceed to read and then gullibly believe and quote statistics from any such historically twisted document about the Trans-Atlantic Slave 'Trade' from those evil liars who still shamelessly maintain that Europeans discovered Africa?

Worse of all is the culturally tethered and psychologically mutilated 'African' who gives himself away with a 'Christian' name like Andy, and is therefore not qualified to write anything on this subject. His level of stupidity goes beyond the dictionary meaning and such a word is not strong enough to slap on such dimwits.

Perhaps, one day when our poor old Andy CY and people like him have with the help of God - the more respectable African concept of God, managed to rid themselves of the yoke of European imperialist mind-control, perhaps he will be able to avail himself of relatively recent books put together by qualified Black researchers. These books, many of which point to the fact that well over 200 million Africans were shipped like cattle and timber in the vomit and excrement-filled dank and putrid holds of slave ships to the Americas.

Some of these crimes against humanity discreetly continued as recently as the 19th century by so-called Christians who claim(ed) they are acting in the name of God to evangelize Africans. They in addition continued to colonize Africans, loot our resources for several centuries and hold us in economic bondage with the economic advantages which they gained from slavery and colonialism.

I cannot forgive the slavery and colonization of Africans at any time in the history of the world by anyone or group of people. But those who misused the name of God to commit such unparalleled and atrocious crimes against humanity as recently as the 17th to 19th century, cannot be trusted especially when they rather continue to oppress and lambaste Africans as being primitive and backward.

Arab slavery existed long before the trans Atlantic slave trade started. In the ninth century (869-883AD) an African group of rebellious slaves from the salt mines took over a swathe of the valley of the Euphrates and set up an independent territory and resisted all efforts at reconquest for over 15 years. The remnants of these people today exist in the Basra area of Iraq as a distinct Afro-Iraq minority. They were known as the Zanj.
Arab slavery was much more brutal and extensive than slavery in North America. The only reason a lot of black people are not found in their numbers in Arabia now is because most Arab slave owners castrated their male slaves. ( kindly google Zanj African slaves in Arabia). Time for Africans to wake up and put an end to the BIG LIE.

Indeed, you cited the verses to support your claim that "Muslims are enjoined to kill all unbelievers and “kaffirs” or “kuffaars,”...That was why I drew your attention to the context of the verses which I am very sure you know quite well but comfortably overlooked. You claim the translations you rendered reflect the original Arabic. This is far from the truth. How can you be that assertive when you are not an Arabic scholar. This only confirms that you are an objective writer. The Arabic rendition defines the context vividly,and it reads in part:(??? ??? ????? ???????)which means 'until the war lay down its burden'. This is completely missing in the translation you quoted which is mostly repeate in anti-Islmic webites. So I am still putting to you do you quoted this verse as well as that of 22:19-21 out of context. You may have done this out of sheer ignorance or pure malice in order to propagate anti-religious or atheist agenda.

A couple of days ago, a Ghanaian in Kuwait or Saudi Arabia, came on Adom FM and complain bitterly that Ghanaian women in those nation are under slavery including the men. He stated that upon landing, their travel documents were taken from them and they were sent to some places blindfolded and that was the beginning of their ordeal. The guy said that they work from dusk to dawn and non of them is permitted to speak with one another. He told Adom FM to help them get in touch with the Ghana Embassy to help them go back home.

There are reports of modern day slavery in nations like Mauritania and most of the Middle Eastern nations. The funny thing is a black African who practice that religion is most often spit on by their Arab counterpart. They see blacks as sub-humans who should not even have a place on this planet. Most of the atrocities that went on in Darfur in Sudan, were done under the watchful eyes of Sudanese authorities. They gave orders to the Arab Janjaweed to rape the Black women so that they can produce Arab looking children and what was the message behind that?
