  The priorities of the ruling scoundrels are presidential planes, presidential palaces, luxury vehicles and the like. They get medical checkups abroad at state expense. They also die at state expense - huge funerals with all the pomp and ceremony. They boast about how such and such is the first Ghanaian to own a Lear Jet or how such and such owns a hotel, a huge mansion, the latest mercedes, lexus, bmw and the like. They cannot account for the oil receipts or the oil drill ship that was sold. Judgement debts after judgement debts with the collusion of the rotten judiciary. That's the way to go. That's progress. That's civilization. The stinking, malaria-breeding, cholera-transporting open sewers can take care of themselves. That's being cultured. That's what a cultured leader and a cultured government do. That's today's Ghana!

  Great article! Is there any way these sewages can be covered? It's really disgusting seeing people using it for defecation. The unpleasant stench is nauseated. Apparently, these don't seem to bother many Ghanaians, particularly, our leaders. They pass these sewages everyday to work & nobody is coming up with an idea to do something about it. Don't these people travel abroad & notice no stench in the air due to underground sewages?

  yes some people have turned Ghana into a primitive country. Golden jubilee house? was it necessary? Misplaced priorities. Did the same people sabotage the construction of the Akosombo dam?

  I wholeheartedly agree with the author.Ghanaians love trashing,defecating and messing up everywhere and when we see an obroni visiting Olf Fadama we don't feel any embarrassment at our stupidity.We don't value cleanliness or orderliness and we're certainly not scared of diseases emanating from open sewers and other pollutants yet we say we want to live long healthy lives.
  
  Open sewers,trashy streets,untidy homesteads and poorly done rd side shacks always yell loudly at me that Ghanaians don't like anything too challenging,they can't put up with stringent rules and they always seek the path of least resistance.The ruccuring theme in all that sounds to me like Ghanaians are poor by choice.Hard work is not our forte.

  All institutions related to health know that this situation must be corrected but no one is doing anything about it. The question is why. This is not the first time I have read about this issue. I think all development MUST STOP and take care of this situation because the result will benefit everyone and it generate the positive things that everyone wants to be known about Ghana. If you are a doctor and you are prescribing medication to someone related from this source you should be a shame of yourself because you know what is making this person sick yet you say you are saving life. I hope a movement is formed to force the government to correct this situation.

  Sewerage system are supposed to be provided so please find a solution to that too. The gate way to Africa has now become the gate way to dirt.

  used in some areas of usa(including mine) large tank in ground accept feces and water but way tank is built only water can escape..So water filters into the ground if its sandy Not lots of clay..Otherwise gravel and sandy soi ...

  It is very import an to take the sewage system a national disaster and do something about it. if we manage the sewage we will save on health spending and improve tourism. Many people will visit ghana and if possible migrate for good. After all the garbage is a disincentive for many ghanaian abroad not to want to come back and stay. Let us do something about it. No stadiums, job 300 presidential palace and ostentatious spending. Mahama can do something about this in his first term and ghanains will give him a second chance to complete it all ghana. How do you fill when you travel abroad and see everything clean and cleaning vehicles washing the streets. these are all jobs. the youth can be fully employed in that and national service personnel should start their national service in building the sewer system.
