You can hate the man all you want but prove what he said was wrong. How many times have you Akadu not written about pen thieves in Ghana and particularly under the NDC govt? So what is the difference b/n what Jerry said and what you preach here daily? Who does not know that politicians are extremely corrupt in Ghana?

You can hate messenger but do not condemn the message. All in all and as much the murders may be regreted during the Rawlings reign in Ghana let us also remember that Ghana was no paradise at that time. Life was as hard as it can be for many with the exception of a few polticians and their allies. We all call him names today yet when he emerged many praised and encouraged him on making him what he has become today.

You claim to speak truth to power, let that "Truth" reflect in your pronouncements.

Akadu, what does "Eternal servant" mean? Is is the "eternal" that's mesmerizing or obfuscating, or confusing - whichever meaning you derived from the expression? Otherwise, I would implore you to rethink, I mean, critically what he means by eternal servant. This singular expression doesn't confer or entail any translations or meanings alluding to sanctity. It just means, being every time at the disposal of the state to serve it in any manner.

Over the years we all saw Rawlings who helped scoop filth out of our gutters; who help build a railroad, who helped to cart cocoa with students, who helped undertake an underwater research - was it for diseases? - in the Volta Region. Up to now, no other head of state anywhere in the world has ever done that, and that also is being in the service of the state! So what's wrong around the assertion he is eternal servant?

A servant is a person dedicated to the service of others or something. And aren't we all servants in Ghana, besides? We all are, depending on the type of service - and everyone would be judged one day according to the type of service we offered.
Would it have mattered if any other person had made these same pronouncement?

I have never heard JJR say by himself he was above sin, error or that he isn't corrupt: he has never said anything even close. NO one is fallible. So we all know he has his faults and failings, but this guy Rawlings has been saying these same things, making these same statements ever since he was first arrested on his first coup attempt and arraigned before court martial. And over the years, if he has changed, it is because we yelled for democracy, and as hypocrites, failed to help him when democracy came to us. We have to hold our heads in shame over how we hailed him during the insurrection and worked against him when it was time for the reconstruction of the country.

Do you sincerely think JJR doesn't think about those lined up and shot for corruption? It is because the corruption that prevailed immediately the country took the pathway to democracy was/is worse than the status quo erat, and it indicts us as Ghanaians that we allow this to happen. Now, we pretend it is JJR who is the cause, so everyone could rise and say whatever he likes against the man, whereas, the country would have been better of had we gone a few years further under the tutelage of the military regime.

JJR, in his frustration of not being able to stem corruption after so many years of dealing with it - I have recalled this event so many times here on Ghanaweb - called on the queen of England to help him fight corruption, when he knew it was an absolute impossibility. This is appealing to the conscience: it underpins remarkably what he thought about corruption, and his inability to fight it. Does that make him holier-than-thou? It has never been cited in history that anyone alone has fought successfully corruption.

The first and last critique in Ghana, who has no fear for anyone is JJR and he does it to everyone, whether or not you are part of him? Do you remember JJR having his first cousin shot for killing someone? No one else, or at least, only few would do this in Africa.

If we had all helped his urge for a better Ghana, if we had all eschewed partisan politics, identified and adopted a unified attitude committed to fighting corruption, we would not he here fighting over very trivial and obnoxious comments on anyone. At the time he was courting the Western world for assistance, dissidents like JH Mensah were patrolling the length and breath of the "civilized" world in the US and Europe, campaigning against aid to Ghana. During Kufuor's presidency, what best could the likes of JH Mensah do? He was a Senior Minister, whatever that meant: He used his position for the rot we knew later of him, including only chasing little girls and we saw the influence peddled by his daughter. That is the height of the ugly noises we make in Ghana.

Sometimes, we need to think about posterity, and understand that for the sake of our children we need to bequeath to them a healthy state that has no tribal and political colors, and the time to uphold that decision is now.

Which Ghanaian says that the atrocities committed under Rawlings regime were good? Even Rawlings himself doesn't make that claim!

Who says that Rawlings was not corrupt? Even Rawlings himself doesn't say that he was above corruption.

To come here to tell us all the things against Rawlings in the poem is to tell us something all of us know already.

I wish Akadu will come here and tell us something NEW about Rawlings. It can even be something new that is bad about the man. Then some of us will listen.

JJ has been able to woe most people through his boom speeches and cold blooded killings and despite his abysmal ruling, he still commands the respect of some foolish and irresponsible people. Tweakai. I do not understand why Ghanaians have forgotten the "chains" this man gave them as a reminder of his ineptness at the presidency. A conman leading a pack of uncouth hordes. Very amazing indeed.
