Why all these caveats itemized below? Nkrumah was a human being with faults! Show me one leader without a fault! With all the dictatorial tendencies imputed to Nkrumah, he never threw bombs at his real or/and percieved enemies, never stole our monies, and never killed a soul. Nkrumah did all nothwithstanding the exigencies of decolonization. I have always asked this question and it speaks to your view of the unconstitutionality of Nkrumah's PDA! And it is this: did you expect Nkrumah to drink tea with the very people who had set out to kill him by any means? Nope! Thank God that Nkrumah did not throw bombs, but resorted to constitutional vehicles, however, crude.
History has absolved Nkrumah: he was to the end, a man of honor and distinction. Long Live Nkrumah! Long Live the CPP! Long dead all impoerialists and neo-colonized parties! In the end, your itemized caveats are useless and incalled for:
"First, I know Nkrumah was one of the founders, NOT THE FOUNDER OF GHANA.
Second, I believe one-party state was unjustified.
Third, I think the Preventive Detention Act was unconstitutional and that Danquah and others should not have died in prison.
Fourth, I think Nkrumah should not have built statues of himself and I am opposed to all self-adulation.
Fifth, I do not think that a United States of Africa was feasible then or even now. However, I believe that Nkrumah laid out a credible vision for Africa.
This visionary speech was delivered at the meeting of African leaders that led to the formation of the O.A.U."

Talk of the Kulungugu bombing and I will tell you that it was the work of his inner circle who wants him dead. Here is why. Why do you blame the opposition? Let's say Mahama is going to hold a durbar somewhere. Who will be tasked to prepare where he will sit or whatever? Also, if there will be any presentation, who will do that? Now, if Mahama's security compromised his safety, who should be blamed? Let face fact and stop twisting facts from fiction. In those days, little is known and people are fed with whatever comes from the government. Those so-called "Bombs" thrown at Nkrumah, was the work of those in his inner circles who wants him dead but as I said, in those days it is difficult to dig out for fact to ascertain the truth.
Look at Ametepe, the man who first attempted to kill Nkrumah. Who was he? He was Nkrumah body guard isn't he so, who was against Nkrumah other than those around him?

What do you mean by compromise his safety. Now because Kennedy was killed does it mean the blame should be put at the doors of his security? Nope! That would be a childish argument to make. Even if Nkrumah's security compromised by taking bribes or planning with the opposition, would you blame the security, or those bent on killing Nkrumah. Anyway, hearsay is a warped evidence of history. Collected oral traditions and all books written show in so many ways that Kulungugu was the work of the opposition. I know you are not a fan of Nkrumah, all the same some facts are relgious and should be freely secularized!

If you are not a CPP supporter, you can commit suicide from their lies; they lie too much, especially about this kunlungugu bombing of Nkrumah: Agh! Liar liars.
At the time of Kulungugu...Nkrumah's CPP had annihilated all forms of opposition in Ghana: The UP leaders of R R Amponsah, Baafour Akoto, Danquah, Ofori Atta, Saki Scheck, Kwesi Lamptey and many others...Hajj Salifu Obetsebi etc were all in Prison or had been killed in prison; The rest were in Exile. Where were the rest of the Opposition leaders then to throw any bombs.
Nkrumah was a brutal socialist dictator and as cruel as all the socialist demagogues at the time.
Propaganda is the cause of Ghana's problem. And the children of CPP have taken over the mantle of their fathers: Chief Propagandists...YOU CAN LIE...CPP Liars

A moron is moron by whichever way you may choose to call or address him. And I daresay that it is better you address a moron as moron rather than use language which he the moron may not understand.
Please I beg you, in what nice way can we possibly address a person like Arthur Kennedy? Believe it or not, this person who wrote this dumb article is actually a lecturer or something like that in one of our prime universities that Kwame Nkrumah built. He Arthur Kennedy was educated and benefited from the vast socio-economic infrastructure that Kwame Nkrumah built whilst he Nkrumah was being hunted by terrorists who Arthur Kennedy supports and wants us all to believe were also founders of Ghana?
Let us ask him if he has ever benefited from anything - apart from coups d'etats, from those terrorists that he wants us to confer national honors on? Nonsense!

Just recently Africans trying to escape humiliation from their countries died on the seas towards the coast of Italy.
I can't believe that there was no single African President who showed remorse for that tragedy.
These people were running out of their countries because the politicians have shared all the money amongst themselves and the rest of the citizens can go to hell.
How can the poor citizen who receives little pay electricity when the politician sleeps in a gov bungalow free and receives fat paycheck yet they pay no bill?
Every embassy is full to the brim to the extend of humiliating Africans at the embassies but they have no choice.
Looking for a means to escape the greed of the politicians of Africa to avoid humiliation. It's sad.
The politician in Africa talks very good when seeking for power. As soon as they get it they turn to their families only.
Thats the fact and it's sad.

Dr Arthur Kennedy's lamentation of Africa's poor leadership, and the search for effective leadership required for the continent's integration and development, vindicates Dr Kwame Nkrumah's vision and determination for Africa's unity.
Dr Kwame Nkrumah might have had his leadership faults like many great leaders of the world, but at least, he had dynamic and visionary leadership which many of his contemporary and most of the current crop of African leaders lack. He was simply a 'rare' African leader.
The truth is, Africa wouldn't be in this economic mess and leadership crisis if today's African leaders can grasp the necessity of Nkrumah's vision and have his determination.

Mr. Kennedy,
Nobody ever said Dr. Kwame Nkrumah was perfect. No human is. But let us put one thing in perspective: Dr. Kwame Nkrumah never thought of the "Preventive Detention Act" until the bombs started going off on the streets of Ghana. And you can't blame him. He had a young promising country to nourish and build. And then came the people who wanted to derail Ghana's moving train...with bombs!
As for your question about what have we done with the legacy that Nkrumah left us, look no further than the leaders and politicians who took the helm from then till now. And no article can summarize what Nkrumah left us more succinctly than Dr. Kwame Osei's "A tribute to an African Colossus: What Dr. Kwame Nkrumah did for Ghana and why Ghanaians should remember him" which can be read at:
www.modernghana.com
And that should also be a mandatory reading for the young among us who look around them each day and probably take things for granted.
Anybody who reads that article will appreciate the plethora of legacy that Dr. Kwame Nkrumah left us. And your question should not be what we as a people have done with that legacy but what you Arthur Kennedy will do to change our corrupt political system to make life a little better for Ghanaians. MAY GOD SEND A SAVIOUR!

I also disagree with you on the principle of fact rather than feeling or emotion and political inclination:(i)Please name the other founders of Ghana! If on the day Nkrumah declared that GHANA...is free forever, and you were not on that podium, then how can you be a founding member of Ghana? Please do not mention J.B Danquah, because if he was indeed a member of the founding fathers of Ghana he cannot sell the very country he has founded on the cheap - he was a CIA agent! (ii)Given the situation on the ground, it was imperative that Nkrumah take full control of the country. He had no choice, since the very people who were supposed to help him build the country were the same people tearing the country apart; and more interested in their selfish ends. (iii) If the PDA was that bad, then what about the CIA renditions all across the globe? What about Guantanamo bay? What about Abu Graib detention camp in Iraq? What about the current law in the US that allows the government to detain, spy and jail its citizens without trial? US has been pursuing an imaginary enemy! Nkrumah had and we still have existing and identifiable enemies of the state! for heavens sake! What about the several sting operations and internal jobs by the US security apparatus, claiming they have foiled terrorist attacks; J.B Danquah was a traitor!Full Stop! (iv)Come to UK and you see statues of several leaders including their own, all over the place; it was important at that time for Nkrumah to do that to concientize the people to his cause. (v) How then can the imports of his speech be achieved if we are not united as one people? Even Europe is uniting long after Nkrumah proposed African unity! Are you blind to the happenings on the continent? The continuous fragmentations of countries to make it easier to be managed by the colonialists! The killings and eliminations of prominent African leaders? please watch: The French African Connection! All you all do is scholarship! Not until we stop these partisan debates and deal with issues devoid of party affiliation we will continue to live in mirage. There is too much partisan politics in our society that it has become a crime to differ with your party on an important national issue. This behavior is killing Africa and Ghana to be specific.
