2)No malice harboured against our brethen, the Akyems. The following is just for argument sake in reaction to your article.
Koforidua Rent Matters: Firstly, the demand is misdirected, for if anything at all, it ought to be the Govt that has to pay any rent, i.e if at all after all this while that demand can still legally be made. Why, one will ask?
For as an inheritor of the assets and liabiities, obligations etc, the present day Govt is, assuming a successful demand is made, bound to fulfil that obligation since it was the then Gold Coast Colonial Govt that purchased the Koforidua lands from some Stools of Akyem and Akuapem and forced a settlement of the Dwabens against Asafo Agyei's and Ohemaa Akosua Afrakomaa's protestations.
Examined from another angle, one can likewise argue that the Akyem Abuakwa State has benefitted immensely in terms of economics, culture/statecraft, population increase etc from the subsequent relocation of the Dwabens.
The Dwabens---being renowned entrepreneurs of old, brought cash crop farming on plantation basis to Akyem, especially in Kola nuts and Palm Oil, Kente weaving, Gold ornamentation(to supplement what was already in Akyem) all of which in sum, greatly enriched the Akyems, by way of taxes, particularly so the Ofori Panin Dynasty.
In terms of statecraft there have been many contributions in either direction. Dwaben borrowed Nkrowaa from Akyem, in turn, imparting the Art of Asante Rulership, the Kete Dance Form and others to Akyem/Akuapem and even Krobo.
Dwaben rather, has been hard done by, as in defiance of Akan practice whereby Settlers are required to pay rent--nto, there was a connivance with the then Colonial Authorities to detach the Dwaben people from their State, which is a Gross Abuse of Akan Law.
Examined on many indices, the contributions of the Dwabens in Akyem/Akuapem, i.e the Atuah, Atuahenes, Boakye Yiadoms, Akore/Kore, Serwaas, Afrakomaas, Boatengs, Awiti's, Adaakwa's, Dankwa's, Darkwah's, Addo-Fenings, Addo-Kwarbos, Appentengs, Siaws, Nketiahs, Asomanings, Duodus, Asumadu's, Akrasi's, Omenahs, Asihenes, Ayisi's, Odei's, probably the Addo-Yobos(not too sure), Akorewaahs, Ofosu's or Fosu's, Ampofo's, Obengs,Sintims, Ntiamoahs, Ayims, Boakye Dankwahs, Akuamoah Boatengs, Diamono's, Dia(prefixed names), Akiti's or Akete's, Gyamfi's, Gyamfi Kumanini's, Gyasi's, Fenteng's, Aka's, Akateng's, Akata's, Awisi's, Awusi's, Afra-prefixed names, Sefa's, Effah's, etc etc(whether descended from paternally or maternally) have been very pivotal to the sustenance and enviable footing of Akyem, especially so, Akyem Abuakwa.
So then, for the sake of Debate we can safely conclude that in all aspects Akyem has gained and is still gaining significantly from the Dwabens than vice versa.
Just imagine if Akan law was to be applied and the Dwabens obligated to contribute towards the upkeep of their State, while honouring only their rent obligations in terms of buildings, lands, farms in Akyem.
The Loss for Akyem will be significant.
As it is a human resource too, we can also argue that they brought on board to Akyem too, Great Intellect, which is reflected in Akyem Abuakwa Doyens such as Joseph Boakye Dankwahs, and the renowned Okyenhene Nana Ofori Atta I, all of whom had Dwaben antecedents in one way or the other.
Summarising. All I'm saying is that Akyem Abuakwa has gained tremendously from the stupidity of some in Asante, hence there isn't any need for anymore monetary exactions.
Today,sadly, many of Dwaben Stock in Akyem and Akuapem have even forgotten who they truly are, i.e their roots.

I don't know the targeted readers Okuampah has in mind. May be you have to go back and re-read your history facts about culture and custodians of Ghana lands.
The Ko-fori dua-na-si which later became known as Koforidua or New Dwaben truly used to be a rented property of the Akyems but that has long ceased and no more after independence.
The records evidently shows that just before the independence of Ghana, occupations and other territorial issues were raised including that of the New Dwaben area.
The last governor Sir Alex Ferguson in his wisdom entered into agreement with the then Akymehene, the great Nana Ofori Atta 1 and paid settlement money for the area where the New Dwabens occupy now.
It is absolutely distortion of historical facts and therefore wrong for you to put here that the New Juaben is still a rented Akyem land, it is not.
Please, do not do anything that will instigate to endanger the cordial and peaceful relationship between the Ashante New Dwabens and their Akyem brothers and sisters at that part of the country.
If you have followed the political intrigues which led to the enstoolment of Oti Boateng as the New Dwabenhene, you will have clearly understand why some concerned Chiefs of the area want him go.

In fact, I am rather curious to find the reason for the fight between the Paramount Lord and his sub chiefs. That is the problem with our inexperience media.
Someone should tell us why they are fighting in the first place and not an old story about who owes the land.
I have my doubts whether Akyems are Guans, but if they are not, then one could say, the lands originally belonged to the Guans and not the Akyems,end of.

Again, can you explain why the New Juabens were paying the "Asante tuo(levy)" to the Akyems until it was abolished by Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, then Prime Minister's government?
