The National ID is embedded with fingerprints and some identifying mechanism hard to forge. Why doesn't this idiotic government tie it to all agencies for identification purposes ? It will ensure accuracy, swiftness and above ...

You know, the fact is that if everything is genuine the by way of the exigencies, it should streamline the passport process so that foreigners would not be able to use any subterfuges to have it. But in Ghana, anyone’s signature could be forged to get a passport.

I have a friend who signed everything on the form, meaning he didn’t look for help from witnesses. When I queried him he quipped it would not be verified. And he had his passport.

In French-speaking west Africa for instance, you will need the services of an old relative who would have to come and attest to knowing you without which the passport, or let’s say, birth certificate will NOT be issued to you.
Generally, what they do is that, at birth registration and control mechanisms become very strenuous in order to have the birth certificate established. This is to verify that both parents are nationals of the country but once it is made, which goes to the central registry, you are free. This birth certificate – and the number you have on it – is what you will use for ALL other national ID cards including passport. This explains why you can have your passport established within only 2 days in Senegal, up to one week in other French-speaking countries. Most delays are due to corruption. In Senegal you can have it by post in two or three days.

Originally, asking for witnesses is to verify you’re citizen, which doesn’t matter anymore because of middlemen who have the facility to process passports very easily the for foreigners.

Getting a witness is normal.

This is to stop corruption and multiple passport applications.

Please get your facts right because there is no error in asking for someone to sign as a witness before you apply for passport.
