  Good contribution, but it seems you assume that all elections are done free and fair. I do not think so. I read with shock and dismay the testimony of a former Deputy British High commissioner, Craig Murray. You can read about how he fought to prevent the 2000 elections being manipulated and twisted. You can read his accounts in his book "The Catholic Orangemen of Togo" Just google, find a free copy and read it. You will be shocked.
  
  You will realise that Ghana has able men and women who can steer the country to the right direction, if, for a start, elections would be free and fair, and if ethnic sentiments will not influence Ghanaian politics.

  Unfortunately, the good and principled individuals with positive moral convictions do not put themselves up for election, so we are left with crooks and all we do is vote and hope that a miracle happens.

  Kafui,people are just naïve as to what is going on in countries like Ghana.Like you wrote there are able men who can change things for the better,but these do not get the chance and they are not prepared to associate themselves with crooks and gangsters.The result is what we are witnessing all over,stealing and looting.The sad side of all this is that the electorate help them to power because they cannot decipher the lies and propaganda from the truth.

  Let me put it this way, your point is quite good, but one way or the other, both politicians citizen must be blame. When it comes to Ghana, to be frank over 99% of our citizens are theifs. In some cases is difficult for the people to identify who is who. In reality, people can be identified through soo many way, yet I am still wondering why Ghanaians can`t do that. My question is that, is it what we call each other as over sense? Because when people are too stupids and foolish, this a lone gives you a sign of who they are.
  However, my point here is that, Ghanaians so like corrupt people to a point that, their believe is, if that person comes to power, he or she will allow them to steal from government. That was why are earier mentioned that ,99% of us are thieves.
  If you could remember, whenever great Rawlings make mention of corruption, just imaging how many people will respond to his statement. All of them will against him in favour of corrupt activities. There we have problem.

  Okofo, you cannot blame the electorates. The problem is that all the politicians we currently have are crooks. It doesn't matter whether whether we vote NDC, NPP or any other party to power. When politicians are in opposition, they talk like saints to gain support and sympathy. Once they're voted to power, they spew garbage. Until the people demand that all politicians vying for positions should agree to declare their assets publicly prior to running for an office and upon exit, we just will have a spinning wheel. How much did Kuffour and his cohorts and family have before assumption of office? How much did they have when they left office? How much did Mahama and his minions have before taking office? Does anybody know? These are the key questions we ought to explore. Otherwise Ghana will just continue to be a cookie jar.

Probity and efficiency are never considered by an electorate largely made up of people who are not well informed about politics and economics.

  It is widely held and with evidence that tribalism and personality cult destroys our sense of judgment when it comes to picking the right leaders, but I will go further than that.
  
  Ghana is a country were a person's wealth is hardly scrutinized. We only listen to people when they are rich and have some cash to offer, instantly.
  
  We lack vision, the ability to envisage a person's future. Who thought football could create so much wealth, the likes of Appiah, Essien etc will grow to be millionaires today. Only someone with a great foresight.
  
  Infact, a person with vision can do more than just envisaging, he can inspire.
  
  All I am trying to say is, when as a society, we put the essentials ahead of the unnecessary or the major issues ahead of the minor issues, then and then only would we begin to do things in the right order.
  
  The culture of greed, selfishness and individual corruption must stop. After all, it is the people you see today, ie, the young, still in school, naive learners of our social flaws, who will rise to become leaders tomorrow.
  
  If we do nothing about this, then we must expect the worst from the next generation. If we think the leaders today are bad, then we ain't seen nothing yet.
