But you have not been able to convince us that Kyerematen can turn Ghana around. The only reason you give for that is that he is the "man who both fears God and cares about his fellow man". Dear Danny, that is not enough reason to convince us that Kyerematen will stop corruption in Ghana and make Korle-Bu doctors treat patients with minor ailments.

THE FEAR OF GOD HAS NEVER STOPPED OUR LEADERS FROM CHOPPING OUR MONEY WAA WAA WAAA. Kufuor and Mills are/were church goers of the first order yet what did they do? There is absolutely no indication that Kyerematen will be any different. He was part of the Kufuor government which was very corrupt from Kufuor himself through his ministers (including Kyerematen and Akufo-Addo) to all the party elite. In fact, the current spate of corrupt practices we see from the NDC government was something they learnt from the NPP.

I tell you, Kyerematen will be no different from Mahama as far as the plight of the majority of ordinary Ghanaians is concerned. Daniel, do not put your trust in any of these guys.

Perhaps Kyerematen can clinch his party's nomination and go on to win the national vote. But that will not be because he is better than those who went before him or the rest of the field. He flopped ingloriously in his attempt to become the WTO top boss. He didn't even have the sense to know that he stood no chance since his competitors were faaaar more qualified for the post than he was. Perhaps he can become president of Ghana. The competition there does not include many qualified people. All he has to do is to defeat the likes of a washed-out Akufo-Addo.

You also made some dubious statements. You claimed that Kufuor left office with a very high approval rating. You mean from Ghanaians? If so, na lie. Why then did his fellow NPP traveller not win the general elections after him and Ghanaians were so anxious to try something else? If you mean by the international community, I will tell you that even today that same community is praising Ghana's economic performance (growth rate) despite the sufferings of the people. As for Kufuor being invited by international forums here and there, there's nothing special about that. All former heads of state receive such invitations - even Rawlings. It is only Kufuor who accepts all of such invitations because he likes travelling and likes money too much.

One other thing: the NPP does not need to win in the Volta Region to change their national fortunes. They only need to do better than they have done so far. For instance, Akufo-Addo got about 10% of the presidential votes in the VR the last time around. The next NPP candidate needs to do much better than that - like get 25%.

One last question to you, my dear Daniel. Why are you so obsessed with a Kyerematen candidacy? This is about the third article you have written in support of the man.

I share some of the issues raised by KK in his comments. For example, I welcomed 2014 at home watching BBC 1 Television and GTV on my laptop. In the UK BBC Tv showed people having fun in London to welcome 2014 and GBC Tv showed some Ghanaians at a Church in Tema welcoming 2014 and I believe that is how many Ghanains welcome the year. Yet, corruption is widespread in Ghana than the UK. In other words, please take God out of politics and or corruption out of religion. I am a Christian and do believe in God but we are not living in Biblical times. God has not chosen presidents anywhere. In fact, God is not a registered voter. Of course, a candidate's religion or faith could inure to his or her benefit at elections but that is not the act of God.

Dan, I am not sure if KK is right by questioning your objective/s for writing this article and whether you are becoming aligned to a faction within the NPP because you appear to be obsessed with Alan's candidacy. Do not get me wrong because I am a fun of Alan and do believe that he has the potential to deliver the presidency to NPP but I am also a realist and not a fanatic.

Do you genuinely believe that the eight months presidential petition did not have any negative impact on Ghana in the areas of socio-economic development (both internally and externally)? I do but that should not be excuse for President Mahama and NDC for some of his failures.

You also appear to woefully ignore the realities or dynamics of Ghanaian politics or politics in general. I hope you read Dr Arthur Kennedy's article yesterday. Unless NPP resolve their internal conflict, whoever is their presidential candidate will have no chance in 2016. For Alan, the task would not be easy if he emerges as the presidential candidate for a number of reasons.

First, if the alleged factions are not brought together, the Akufo-Addo faction will regard him as someone who did not support him in 2012 so they may pay him back. That would be a big blow to him. Again, if Nana Akufo-Addo contests the primaries against Alan, the divisions within the party may be widened at the end of the primaries. If Alan is victorious, he may not gain the total support of the Akufo-Addo faction.

You also seem to have written off Mahama already. If I am right, then that would be tantamount to political infanticide. Mahama still has at least, two years (this year and 2015) to deliver. In politics two years is a very very long time. In other words, Alan or NPP could face a stronger or weaker Mahama or even a new NDC candidate. There are more unknown unknowns.

Again, Alan is likely to be facing the incumbent as NDC is more likely to retain Mahama for 2016. You know even in the developed democracies, incumbency comes with lots of electoral advantages (just reflect on Obama versus Romney in the last days of the 2012 elections). The advantage to the incumbent or disadvantage to the challenger is even greater in the developing world such as Ghana. These are realities that Alan will have to deal with and cannot be ignored.

You are right in saying that Alan will have appeal in more regions as well as floating voters but his victory will not be a forgone conclusion as you seem to suggest. Remember, Prof Kwame Okoampa-Ahoofe recently posted an article disputing the qualities of Alan and claimed that he made a mess of some presidential initiatives under his leadership as a minister during Kufuor reign. More of such attacks would be forthcoming from within and outside NPP if Alan becomes the candidate.

Yes, Kufuor could be a factor, either positive or negative but could you provide any evidence to buttress some of your claims, especially, regarding Kufour's investments in the Volta region as compared to Rawlings's or NDC's? Remember that even if you are accurate, by 2016, the facts could change in favour of Mahama or NDC.

There are other factors you have not taken into consideration, such as the kind of NPP leadership across the country at the end of their ongoing internal elections. In my view, one of the reasons why NPP lost the 2012 elections was because that, despite expanding the frontiers of one person one vote in the selection of party leadership, those elected were more or less cleverly selected for their loyalty to personalities but not genuinely elected for their abilities (as was evident during the election petition). If that is repeated in the current party elections, one would not expect a different outcome in 2016 unless you believe in miracles or expect God to elect Alan the president in 2016.

Yes, NPP must improve on their performance in Volta Region but do not forget that Mahama did well in both Asante and Eastern Regions by way of his percentage share of the votes. Equally, Mahama will also fight to improve on his share of votes in those regions as well as improve in NDC's strongholds and other regions.

Dan, your analyses appear to have been clouded by your apparent obsession with Alan's candidacy. Alan will definitely be a strong candidate but he will have a good fight from Mahama and nothing should be taken for granted as you have painted in this article. 2016 is definitely not a forgone conclusion for any candidate or party. There is more to play for and it's too early for any definite postulates to be drawn. As far as Alan is concerned, his chances would be slim if Nana Akufo-Addo contests the NPP primaries.

He is going to contest not because he believes he knows what is best for Ghana or that he is the best man for the country (he is not on either count) but because politicians never give up. They are stubborn, especially the African breed. Until they are squarely and thoroughly booted in the buttocks, they will continue hanging on.

Another reason why Akufo-Addo will stand is because he must get to the presidency in order to re-coup all the money he has spent on politicking for his last two failed attempts. The man and his family do not have a bottomless pit. He must be seriously in the red now. Politics costs money and he spent a lot on his failed campaigns. Only the presidency will enable him recoup that - through corrupt means, of course.

There are some people who naively tell us that Akufo-Addo has never been fingered for any corrupt deals. Not being caught at it doesn't mean he never did it. He was just clever in hiding it - unlike the others. The fact is that, no one can survive so long in Ghanaian politics without being corrupt. Absolutely no one. Indeed, the main reason they are ALL struggling for power is to acquire wealth.

Even Rawlings, who is today railing against corruption, also benefited illegally from the spoils of the office he held for so long. The only difference between Rawlings and Kufuor on this score is that Kufuor was faaar greedier than Rawlings. Rawlings may also, by his nature as an authoritative person, have had greater control over his workers than Kufuor did which means Rawlings could check them more than Kufuor who competed with his ministers in the corruption league.

The bottom line is all of them thought of themselves first before country they led. Kyerematen and Kufuor will not behave any differently, just as Mahama is not behaving differently.

Religious drivel is not my kind of things, and as you might have read on Ghanaweb too, I've embarked on Exposing the Bibliical Myths still holding in shackles the minds the generality of uncivilised Ghanaians!

The corruption we are seeing under Mahama was there all along. His problem was not doing anything to curb it, just as Mills before him. So we can say that he has kept Ghanaians in the frying pan in his first year in office. At the end of the 2nd year, if he does nothing to stop the rot, we can then reach a verdict that his is just another bankrupt regime. But I won't run to the NPP for a god ordained salvation. Anyone who thinks so must have his brain examined! Dan certainly needs a shrink.

From previous articles, I am convinced that you come from Ho MUnicipality. I also hail from the Ho Municipality, and my homewtown is in Ho Central Constituency.

Mr Pryce, may I humbly request that you give brief statistics about key projects JJR did in 1982 till Jan 2001 in Volta Region; and give same key projects that JAK' NPP did from 2001 till 2009.

Based on the aid statistics, we shall evaluate (proportionally), who did what from VR.

If not Mahama and his govt who should take the blame for our economic woes? Me, you or the NPP? Where were you when the nation's resources were looted with passion in the last 3 months before the elections? Do you understand why we entered into 2013 with an unprecedented deficit? Let's not be hypocritical.... let's speak the truth and shame the unpatriotic in the society. That, we can get the best out of our leaders.

I agree with you that the NPP is not the solution to Ghana's problems, but I come from the school that thinks that we have to change our leaders constantly until we get it right. Winning Presidential elections does not necessarily mean that the victor was the best among his competitors. Elections are not always won on competence because if that was the fact, the NDC would be in opposition today. What the writer sought to do was to point out the factors that makes Kyerematen a more winnable candidate from the NPP's camp as far as the 2016 Presidential election is concerned. That was his thrust.... you have the right to agree or disagree with him but please do not mislead us with emotions.

It appears Pryce has been out of touch with Ghana. Is he aware of Kyeremateng trying to rig the 2008 NPP primaries by dishing out money on the convention floor? After losing in disgrace, he and President Kuffour refused to campaign for Akuffo-Addo. Is this the saint Pryce is advocating will save Ghana? Kyeremateng has lost credibility within NPP and needs to redeem himself first.
I am personlly open to forgive him, but I wouldn't give him my vote on a silver platter. He should contest in the open NPP primary like everybody else, spell out his vision, and convince NPP electorate he is the best candidate for the job at this time.

Alan may have so many points in his favour but I don't think he'll be offered the leadership of the NPP for 2016. I think Alan will have trouble steering through the NPP Presidential primaries. There're several suggestions that he's fatally damaged by his poor political calculations. There's every indication of Nana Akufo-Addo running again for the party's leadership, which could pose problems for Alan.

Besides, nobody has better hereditary pedigree and political ties than Akufo-Addo! So even if you base an objective, holistic analysis on these discredited rubrics, Akufo-Addo should do better with voters than Kyeremateng.
I think Ghanaians will look to the leadership stature of the individual: his character, proven track record, name recognition and ability to articulate achievable developmental agenda to the masses of the people.
Akufo-Addo has an advantage in all the foregoing. I am yet to be convinced that Kyeremateng will do better as a candidate. Frankly speaking, the NPP's best shot for 2016 is Akufo-Addo. I will go further to predict that he will win the presidency if he contests in 2016.
