He was in the employ of a foreign government, working for the British. In the UK Dumors untimely demise was mentioned only in passing in passing by various news outlets. There were no commentary from 10 Downing Street. There was no great fun fare.. Let us respect ourselves for once fellow Ghanaians. The talented Komla did not contribute greatly to Ghana's well-being no matter what the hero worshippers say.

  We Ghanaians try to overpraise people especially when they are dead. Just remember how some people got carried away with praises for the late Kofi Awoonor. We are seeing the same thing with Komla's death. People are stepping over each other's toes to be the ones to give him the greatest praises.
  
  Well, we are Ghanaians and we don't have many people that the rest of the world knows. So we cry blood over the few we have whom we lose.
  
  But we should get over Komla Dumor's death and let the family mourn him. His sudden death at the pinnacle of his career was sad indeed. But death doesn't care for who is at the pinnacle of his career. It treats us all equally. So let it be with Komla as it will be with all of us.
  
  In the western European country where I live, there was not a single mention of his death anywhere. If he had died while covering the war in Southern Sudan or kidnapped by Somali pirates, it would have been reported here as a news item - a BBC reporter killed or kidnapped. Perhaps his name may have been mentioned.
  
  Some people are even saying he should be given a state funeral in Ghana. Absolutely not. I don't know if he ever worked for Ghana and he never represented Ghana at the BBC. He was a private employee of the corporation.
  
  His death is sad, yes. We should mourn him, yes. But let us not carry this thing too far.
