Well written and I am with you. We need to pay these players well if we are to improve the league. The life of a player is short so he needs to be paid well for the future. Sports is a big industry so let us make use of it

The writer's concerns for soccer as a business in Ghana is commendable. Some of the fixes he is advocating can improve the situation. However, until the economy of Ghana improves and the lives of ordinary people get better soccer as a business in Ghana will continue to be deplorable and players will keep leaving the country. The situation is not different from exodus of teachers and doctors, for example. This is why I always don't get people who complain why our players sign for international clubs considered mediocre. The fact is this. Live in Ghana has been too "hot" to live under for far too long with no relief in site for majority of Ghanaians.

The idea of the GFA picking or drafting best players from the Educational institutions, & distributing them to deserving teams (depending on some laid down terms, could help improve the standards. Clubs should meet some financial standards to qualify for such benefits, & the GFA should also ensure these players continue their education to some level. Gate fees to the stadiums should also be well reviewed. The minimum should be 5GCedi.

Below 18 years, you can't sign a contract. You need parental approval. With parental approval comes the real possibility that these students will be coerced by parents to earn money playing football rather than go to school ...

With parental approval comes the real possibility that these students will be coerced by parents to earn money playing football rather than go to school. That should be a no no. Clubs should meet some financial standards before registration. Avoid the use of students by all means. GFA should even legislate against it. When the student graduates or is out of school, he can sign up and play for any club.

Auditors should help curb these anomalies. Accounts such as "Incidental Expenses, Miscellaneous Expenses and Ways & Means Expenses" should not be accepted. Such accounts must clearly be defined.
