SO GHANA IS THAT OUR END. what does he think those he complained to will do. To be honest this man is not matured enough to be a president in any country let alone Ghana. I hope for goodness sake he does not sign any contract before he is booted out of office. Shameful.

Tony, I just read the news report and commented on it. I was in shock and very disappointed. However, the solutions you have outlined in your short piece will not work for a number of reasons, some of which you made mention of (scaring away foreign investors).
If the measures outlined by you were implemented, western donor countries will put pressure on Ghana not to nationalise the companies. In any case, what happened to the state mining companies? The state could not invest in them, were neglected until they were sold to foreign companies.
What the government must do is to have good and strong labour laws that make it more expensive to lay-off workers. It is because it's very cheap to sack workers in Ghana and that is why the mining companies threatened to opt for that.
In any case, the foreign mining companies are already laying off workers because they claim world prices of precious metals have fallen. These foreign companies are taking Ghana for a ride. In fact, they are blackmailing Ghana, sabotaging the government and holding Ghanaians to ransom.
This is because Ghana has a very weak economy and government, so the foreign companies can trample upon Ghana's sovereignty. It's sad and disgraceful.

The threat of nationalizing their company means the threat of taking their profit away from them. If they believe that government will actually do it, they will back off and pay the tax. We have to call their bluff at some point. They probably believe that Mahama can't do it that's why they are making the threat. Also, this is a windfall profit tax. Windfall profit is profit beyound the normal profit. I doubt if the companies will be stupid enough to forego it if they actually believe that the President will do it. We must call their bluff.
