Just to add that in my opinion, it is okay to challenge the status quo to make things the way they ought to be rather than to accept mediocrity as the way things are done on the continent. I am utterly surprised that Ghanaweb has published my article without a proper display of the paragraphs into which I divided the whole write-up. It is quite unacceptable to do such a thing. It makes the whole piece look a bit of an affront to the ethics of writing. Ghanaweb needs to take a critical look at how their editors publish articles. This is absolutely not how I lumped the whole write-up together. Please break it into the original paragraphs to make it look neat and easy on the eye. Thank you!

Let's look at what you did wrong....take this criticism in good faith from a fellow Columbia University graduate....the J-School... For one thing, your piece is outrageously lengthy the splendid ideas expressed notwithstanding...this is not a magazine, remember, where long articles are the staple.....for another, you chose a topic that is least attractive to readers whose attention span is legendary for its brevity...treat Ghanaweb as a radio station where news stories are reduced to one or two sentences and condense your articles into short, sweet and memorable paragraphs...a sure way to attract and retain my attention. You should thank your stars that the folks at Ghanaweb allowed the publication of your article in its entirety. Were I to wield the editing knife, your piece would have been halved for the benefit of my readers.....otherwise, a brilliant opinion

However, you can't speak for everyone on what's attractive to them (unless you are in their minds or done some research on that that you haven't talked about). If you speak for yourself, I'll understand. To add to that, this a forum to express our opinions and not necessarily what's attractive to others, but what the issues are. And, it is not uncommon to see articles longer than this on ghanaweb. Quite tangential, but modernghana did a good job publishing the same article in best way possible. You have the right to express your opinions, though. Thanks! I guess we can all keep on learning and unlearning in life.

I have gone from being extremely enthusiastic to damn right indifferent but I see from this that hope springs eternal. And yes, you are a fine writer and justice has not been done to your piece by Ghanaweb and readers to stir up a debate.
