Npp use the HIPIC to tell ghanaians that the state coffers was dry a strategy to enable them to carry out thier stealing spree.But NPP raise the per diems of all officials who travel abroad including the prisident, did JJ did that its a BIG NO. Check your facts be4 you comment.The year 2000 when NDC left office ghana's debt was lower than it is now. The fault will be 2000 till now. Dont blem JJ for suddling the country with debts. You have soon forgoting what NPP did when they were in power the funerals with lots of cars, who pays for the gas they use. If actually the country was broke then Kuffour shd not have been jumpping from one country to another at the tax payers expence. Also check to see which president traveeld the most. JJ 19yrs was less the 8yrs of Kuffour, so my you see so many things contributed to our predicament. Ghana @50 see what happened yet we are HIPIC? I can go on and on Terkper was just right at what he said. I dont support any party but we have to call a spade a spade and stop praising wrong doers and shun thier activities, and lets put party affiliations aside and say the good things without name calling.

  We need data for us to get an insight into the situation. What was the level of debt when k4 took over,when k4 left office,and now. Answers to these questions will tell us all we need to know rather than arguing. However figures published on this website seems to suggest the mills/mahama are responsible for about half the current debt. In the last 6 months a BOG report was reproduced on this site. Someone may remember the date or even know the data

  There is nothing sinister about Okoampa-Ahoofe's analysis of Mr Terkper's statement on the nation's huge debt. He is historically correct in reminding us of the state of affairs that confronted the Kuffuor administration with regard to its inheritance of the national debt from the P/NDC regime, and how the NPP government dealt with the crisis. For the most part, I'm not a fan of this writer but sometimes his analyses are on the money, and this is one of those instances. I doff my cap up to him for the enlightenment.

  Rawlings we know took Ghana when Ghana was nowhere and growth was a minus. Rawlings took Ghana as an unattractive package, re-packaged it before kuffuor and Asante thieves took it back to the cleaners and you are here talking rubbish.

  Kola, you've just exposed the extent of your crass ignorance of the socioeconomic history of Ghana. Rawlings did not initially subscribe to economic liberalism when he first seized power. He styled himself a socialist and was vastly influenced by the likes of Fidel Castro, whose economic philosophy he sought to implement in Ghana. Due to his poor and disastrous management of the economy, things went from bad to worse. He had no choice then than to accept Kwesi Botchwey's wise counsel to beg for help from the IMF. The result was the imposition of the draconian Structural Adjustment Programme on
  Ghana which made us lose the industrial base Nkrumah had built to help us be self sufficient and provide good jobs for the people. So stop parroting the NDC propaganda and immerse yourself in the proper study of your country's economic history.

  However, Mr Terpker and his economic team in this NDC administration cannot keep blaming the Kufour-led NPP administration for their own lack of 'financial responsibility' and lack of strategy to achieve economic growth.

  All govts when in power blame previous ones for debt burdens and other problems. I did not read Mr. Terkper's statement differently from what we have heard in the past. I also did take it that the Finance Minster was blaming the NPP gov't solely for the nation's debt stock. He went back so many years in his statement that it covered more than the NPP governing period. In fact, taking into account the time period mentioned by the minister, more blame should fall on pre-PNDC, PNDC, and NDC govts than the NPP, which ruled for only 8 years.
  
  Unfortunately the minister mentioned NPP gov't in his statement providing the opening for the Okoampah-Ahoofe's of the world to read his statement narrowly as blaming only the NPP gov't.
