The game changer in the South African struggle was the battle that saw aparthaid South African conscripted army slaughtered on the battle field of Cueto Cuenavale,Angola. South Africa wanted to bring the Portuguese back in Angola to help cement its hold on Namibia, but when they attacked, Cuba heed the call and deployed 35000 troops who reinforced and pushed South Africa to retreat in a total defeat that gave way to the independence of Namibia. Now that the buffer that South Africa created with a vast open Namibia is gone, meaning the battle can now be brought to the borders of S.A by African forces.
The Front Line State were putting a force together with Mengistu of Ethiopia alone having a standing army of one million and the military Federal Government of Nigeria was restless and ready to contribute.
Meanwhile in Holland the government had built thousands of flats to absorb the returning from South Africa should battle kicked in Australia and Canada also made preparations for millions to come.
No one was under any illusion that whites would ever remain in South Africa when it came to all out war as the Africans were ready to fight as the knew they would win.
These changing situations were what gave way to talks with the ANC and not the sanctions. The sanctions were smoke screen to undermine the African preparedness to kill the snake and cut its head off once and for all.

Thanks for your interesting article.Any candid and objective observer will agree with me that Mandela's compromising act of pacifying white settlers at the expense of the advancement of his fellow African natives was a big disappointment to all blacks.After 'liberating' his people from oppression and suppression from white settlers on Mandela's own nativeland AZANIA,which is still called South Africa,he allowed the same white oppressors to maintain the status quo and called it "RECONCILIATION".Several years after the so-called 'liberation',opportunities for advancement are still very limited to native South Africans.They live in ghettos with poor sanitation,they lack education,employment,healthcare etc.What a sharp contrast between the radical,tranformational and visionary Kwame Nkrumah,the world-acclaimed AFRICA'S MAN OF THE MILLINEUM.

Tell me what you wanted Mandela to have done. Since Mandela relinquesed the Presidency, it has been at least ten years. Ask yourself why the subsequent Presidents have not done what Mugabe did in Zimbabwe. Talking about poor people in South Africa, tell me any country on the face of the earth where you don't have poor People, not even mighty USA or oil rich Saudi Arabia.

What is wrong with Black people is not having patience. South African Blacks are now building up capital and setting up companies. Many black Americans with capital are moving to South Africa including some rich Africans setting up companies because of the robust economic environment.

The stupid revolutionary fervor empty heads like you want South Africa to engage in will distabilize their economy. South Africans have learnt from the mistakes most African countries made when they obtained their independence and they have refused to chart the same course, good for them.

Think why South Africa is the only black rule country with a good economy to talk about. I was in South Africa a year ago and even the poor South Africans are better off than an average Ghanaian. Leave South Africa alone and worry about the mess in your own country Ghana.

The living standard of South Africa whites is higher than their black counterparts because they control the economy due to the capital they have but Black South Africans are building up capital and improving their living standards.

Now most Africans with financial ability source their health needs in South Africa available to poor South African Blacks and you are talking about standard of living of Black South Africans which is better than anywhere in the Africa continent.

If not what Mugabe did in Zimbabwe, then tell me what people like you and Essuman wanted Mandela to have done. Reconciliation has been good to South Africans. The percentage of the poor South Africans will continue to decline as the economy continue to grow.

The answer is a big NO.Mandela was no match to Nkrumah.

Mandela became President when South Africa did not need building secondary schools or universities from the ground up. He did what every intelligent person will do unlike Mugabe, a graduate of Nkrumah Ideological institute did by using Nkrumah ideology and destroyed Zimbabwe economy.

Now you are telling South Africa was already developed when Mandela became President so was Zimbabwe (Rhodesia) when Mugabe became President but look at Zimbabwe now. Mandela did the right thing by not doing anything drastic for the White South Africans to pulk their capital from the economy. It is those hypocritical tendencies with some people that allowed people of one skin color to confer unto themselves superiority status and the use of the Christian Bible to justify their evil deeds.
We are not talking about the spoils of victory as Europeans used their advanced weaponry to defeat Africans and or one another in battles neither are we talking about the enslavement of the defeated but the intentional labeling of non-Caucasians as inferior. Hitler was the devil incarnate in man but even Hitler knew that for his Arian nation to lay claim to being a superior race he had to prove his superiority even in sports. History tells us even Hitler knew his belief of superiority was a sham and did not materialize as he sat and saw Jesse Owens beat his mighty men in Munich Olympic games and thus walked away defeated in spirit. Why then did the Caucasian race continue to perpetrate the fraud of superiority over all things Negroid? It is the ability for us including you, Mr. Philip Baidoo Jnr. to accept that folly.
When ex-president Ronald Reagan of the United States tried to forestall the push to dismantle apartheid in South Africa through disinvestment, he, Reagan was only interested in money and thus pretended a collapse of the South African economy under the minority white rule would affect South African blacks the most. It was not because Reagan believed in his bull but because the RNC just like the NPP and all the other parties build on hypocritical stance masquerading as conservative parties cared about money and not the good in humans, fairness and or equitable share in work, sacrifices, blood and tears. How else could most nations, including Brazil, Australia, USA, pre-Castro Cuba and others relegate its own black citizens to second class status for years and pretend there are no consequences that will last ages? In Brazil the white citizens enjoy longer life expectancy, wealth and the good things in life while their own black citizens suffer playing slaves to them while the government seeks open markets in Africa. Why else would everyone of those Cuban whites who fled to Florida do enjoy the fruits of being white but have failed to show one black Cuban amongst them who have been met with the same fortunes?
Yes there are innate human shortcomings but the evil in man enables some of us to use those very evil traits to justify and maintain our status in life even when we know its evil. The founding fathers of the Mormon Church claimed to have seen God and in that infinite revelation created a Church that did not see its black members as fit to worship with them. And if our Christianity is true why would the Mormon Church and or any other church accept race mixing if it were truly God teachings? Is the entire Christian world not going to hell in a hand basket if it were truly God’s teaching that whites are superior and thus not supposed to dabble with blacks in any social order?
Anyway you wash it, African have been afraid of their own shadows. We have accepted anything from developed nations as the gospel truth even when events say otherwise. The 2008 global economic meltdown did not start at the hands of the poor and inferior Africans but as a result of the greed built into global economic activities that rewarded creative stealing over work and value. So while laborers toiled in production lines, people on Wall Street and financial institutions gambled and lost and all had to suffer. Africans who have had the opportunities to travel learn and work in the Diaspora do return to practice those self-serving built-in advantages learned on others in the African continent. If Mandela suffered from the same human frailties why did he not engineer the slow assassinations of the leaders of the white minority as the white minority government did to the black majority leaders? We may not be smart with evil but we have compassion and humanity. Those Africans who engage in the most grotesque displays of evil mostly learn from their masters. Most of the crimes in Sub-Saharan African nation came at the hands of people educated in the Diaspora who have come to understand that power comes with money and nothing else thus are willing to hold on to power if it meat killing fellow citizens. The good they do with what they learn to implement systems of good governance pale in comparison to the damage they cause to the human spirit through abject greed and the worship of money that comes with being hypocrites.

Danquah who had diametrically opposite views for any good thing.Lest we forget,Busia and Danquah opposed Ghana's Independence,they also opposed free education.Again,they also opposed the construction of the Volta dam.The crux of the matter is Nkrumah was wiser than those short-sighted neo-colonialist stooges.None of Nkrumah's opponents had more "wisdom and skills" than him. He lived ahead of his time.
