I am Kwame Aponkye and I have a beautiful Dog called Popsy. I love it so much. Can we also gain the freedom, recognition and acceptance to marry without any eye brows been raised or objection from society?
Please dont tell me its beastiality, its my right. What me and my Dog chooses to do in our room does not affect society in any way.
Do you see how quickly the human race could descend into chaos and confusion without properly defined laws that guides the way we live?
We are often deceived that we are so different from animals but its been proven time and time again that when laws and order break down in society humans could do worse than animals.
God in his infinite wisdom had a good reason for giving Adam and Eve laws to live with which was further expounded on and given to Moses. A lawless world where everything goes in the name of freedom is one that is setting itself up for self destruction. Who knows may be the end is near and all these happenings are events that will lead to the end of current civilaztion as we know it for all prior civilizations had come to an end one way or the other many times through self destruction.
I hope I would be long dead by then when that time comes.
I am waiting for your response Kofi.

It is true that Africa has urgent problems. It is all the more reason for Africa to concentrate on its real problems rather than fictional problems that are used by its politicians to distract voters from the politicians inability or unwillingness to solve the real problems of poverty, rape, violence, war, malnutrition, illiteracy, lawlessness, disease and corruption.
In fact, the scapegoating of gays only worsens Africa's real problems, which are largely the result of excessive birth rates. This excess fertility is exacerbated by homophobia that forces gays into marriages they do not want.

Aponkye, your presumption that these could be signs of the "...end of our civilization as we know it..", Christians refer to it as the end-times, is quite a generous one.
Your contribution in whole was apt, intelligent and straight to the point. You should consider yourself as one of the fast diminishing species of the Australopithecus Africanus hominid.
My take on the subject however, considering the distant ominous threat to procreation and its related social evaluations is that, these are signs that could very well indicate the end of humanity - or man and woman as we know it.
After all, the aberration of homosexuality, whilst defacing all existing gender paradigms into an indistinguishable freaky monster, portends that taken to its ultimate logical conclusions, procreation will be increasingly restricted as the depravity increases until it will get to a point where having babies will be an indefensible and intolerable thing of the past. You and I, if we are still lucky enough to exist, will then be an endangered species.
The tone of Kofi Amenyos article already hints at the impending Armageddon where queers will stake a moral right to overcome or conquer humanity. Amenyo even goes on further to assume that the battle by the previously unknown third sex - if I may call homosexuals so, has already been won in advance.

You may not like your in-laws - do you want them in the pokey? I don't like people who want to put gay people in jail, for being themselves. There's a certain integrity in that. Should you go to jail for you opposition to this? (For what it's worth, I don't dislike you. I don't KNOW you. Get to know some homosexual people. And make a judgement based on whether she/he is honest and respectful in interactions with others. Don't assume anything. Be sure. I've chosen to know some. And to a person, I would never, ever want them thrown in jail for their sexual-status. The ones I know are good people. And I will never follow them to their bedrooms to see what they are doing up-in-it. God knows. Let Him decide if He wants to bring them to account. Not you. He knows our hearts. Leave THOSE PEOPLE alone. And throw arrogance and hubris to the wind. It's not sad that we have guys like Kofi around. He has a point-of-view (POV). And he stated it with a keen intelligence and knowledge of the subject. We should never be intimidated by this. It's how the public can become educated on current issues. Thank you Mr. Amenyo for your cogent commentary. I have read the anti-homosexual laws passed by the Ugandan and Nigerian Parliaments. They are similar in so many ways but the thing that struck me most, other than them being outrageous and unjust, is that they promote fascism. They require families, and the public, to report family members, and other citizens, who are gay, or who they suspect are. This is incredible. I'll never get my head wrapped around it. And they're using the Bible as the foundation of their inhumanity to God's children. Members of the enlightened public, including men and women clergy, will have to courageously speak up for the inherent dignity of all human beings, no matter who they love, and to emphasize that rapists and murderers and thieves and liars, because of what they do need the swift hand of justice. Not gays because they are gay. That's insane writ large. Folk need to keep their 'holier-than-thou' noses out of peoples bedrooms and take care of business in their own. Period. And they need to let the Good Lord be judge and jury when it comes to sexuality. He doesn't need them in this matter. Let Caesar take care of the str8 and gay pedophiles and rapists, etc. About antiquated notions: African 'two-spirits' have been around since, well, time. THOSE PEOPLE are celebrated by the societies in which they live. They possess 'ying &yang' and have homosexual-natures. Sexuality has no borders. When ignorant folk blab about "western influence" it isn't the opposite of strange. People need to help solve real African "cancers": mob-mentalities, political corruption, religious extremism, hopelessness, ignorance and superstitions, hunger and thirst, inadequate healthcare, joblessness and climate-change. Take care of those and homosexuals won't be on the radar. The good people of Africa / where are you? How can you allow what's happening in your names? You've assumed God's prerogatives for you play judge and jury. And you'll answer in the final hour. When eternity beckons, what'll you answer when St. Peter asks, "What have you done for the least of these?" How could your arrogance and your hubris, and your lack of charity and love, get you past Heaven's Gate? How will it be possible? With a straight-face, what will you say? In the end love matters most. Remember this.

It's not imposed by anyone. Homosexuality just is. I agree it can seem that the 'west' is trying to impose this. But the west has been there and done that so to say. Most there understand it's wrong to harm people for what they are, as opposed to, what they do, as so many on the continent seems to be doing. A case can be made that it shouldn't be silent in the midst of this. I agree. But to say to any African country that it must approve gay-marriage is a no-no. With more education it might come to some African democracy. Who knows? It's already in South Africa - and many aren't happy about it. In the USA a few states allow it; most don't. But the process of educating the public has been in full-force for over 50 years. So things are just different. Africans are no less or more 'crazy' on this issue than the west is, and has been. But people know gay people. They are our brothers and sisters; our co-workers; our football, soccer and basketball players; our teachers; and our MINISTERS! They are everywhere and they always have been. Until most recently, the past 20-30 years, most were 'in-the-closet.' Hiding 'the love that dare not speak its name' so to speak. But they were tired of that kind of deceit. They understood that until they demanded to be treated with dignity, and respect, they'd be getting much the same. So they opened their mouths, they stood up, and they told the truth about who they are. In force. And they were us. And the bigotry, superstition, myths, and all the ignorance started falling like dominoes. Africa is going through this. And none-too-soon.

No, the essence democracy is respect for human rights, especially those of minorities. Anything else is tyranny of the majority, not democracy.

Insight to the bone, just because a country is overwhelmingly Catholic does not mean that it opposes same-sex marriage.
Argentina, Brazil, France, Portugal, Spain and Uruguay are all overwhelmingly Catholic and all recognize same-sex marriage. It is only in France that there was widespread opposition to it, though it was still a minority.

It is difficult for democracy to cater for a minority until the majority finds it necessary to do so. All because democracy is about numbers and not proportion of various groups.
However the problem here is about morality and moral issues cannot be decided by democratic procedure. This is because majority will always carry the vote. Meanwhile like St Augustine said, "Wrong is wrong even if everybody is doing it, and right is right even if nobody is doing it."
Hence homosexuals should be able to convince majority of the people if they want democracy to decide for them. Otherwise it is the current level of morality in Ghana which has decided.

Sexuality as practiced between adults, are moral if done with integrity; in other words, without recklessness - absent coercion, promiscuity and adultery, for instance.
If Ghana's Constitution prohibits gender discrimination, the states or provinces can not enact laws mandating differential treatment, nor can businesses and corporations enact policies treating men and women differently. Majorities rule only if they pass constitutional scrutiny. If 70% of men want to prevent women from becoming pilots, for instance, they can't. Ghana mandates gender equality.
Practically, I believe somewhat as you do. It would be good to have a majority vote / approval for some things, gay-marriage, for instance. People have to be ready for it. There needs to be a lot of educating going on up-in-Ghana. Personally, I want the gays to have the pleasure of going through divorce...lol...why should straight-folk bare all the agony? A little equality is called for me thinks! But I digress. Mother's calling!

I agree gay marriage should not be pushed on anyone, any nation. With time and education, homosexuals will not be seen as what people, the majority of whom are ignorant about the subject, pontificate about them. say about them. THOSE PEOPLE, those homosexuals, are human beings, not animals, like the people who physically harm and/or kill them imagine, not complicit in a gross injustice, like the mobs who, like mad dogs, prey on them, and bark invective, just because can, and just because they already know all they want to about homosexuals - but they don't know nothin. And their gall, their arrogance, and their hubris, are nothing but excuses to take matters into their own hands, to take what is God's, the right to be judge and jury, from Him. This is a grave mistake. And it's sin incarnate. How can a Christian behave the opposite of how Jesus, the Christ, would? How is this possible? How could you assume, for yourselves, what's His? If you believe homosexuals are the lowest-of-the-low, lower than dogs, sicker-than-sick, many of YOU PEOPLE do, why haven't you allowed God's representatives on this earth, his clergy, and fellow Christians, heal them? Why have you taken away this possibility to be renewed, to be 'born again?' Just who do you think you are? And why would you (wrongly) believe He would approve the evil you do IN HIS NAME? Who do YOU PEOPLE think you are? What could you say, in the proverbial 'midnight hour,' when eternity beckons, when at Heaven's Gate, when the angels guarding it, or St. Peter, or Christ Himself asks, "What have you done for the 'least of these?' Congratulations, Kofi Amenyo, for a courageous, intelligent and generally factual article of homosexuality. Such articles are so rare.
However, you missed one point. It has been well established by biologists that various types of homosexual behaviour (e.g. mounting, long-term couples) are prevalent in every mammalian species and several other species as well. Anybody who has cattle will have seen some males mount other males.
Another point that you did not address is that under internationl law, all countries are required to respect minimum human rights standards. No country is entitled to commit genocide or permit slavery or rape. Other countries are obligated to intervene against such atrocities. African countries accepted this view when they sought foreign intervention against Apartheid.

Dont put words in my mouth bro, I said that all our choices come with consequencies, but I will advise that everyone make the right choices. As a rational human being, is it not very wrong for you to make others do that which your own conscience judges wrong? This simply has nothing to do with Bible, even though The Bible frowns on it. Our society as a whole sees it as wrong. As for damnation,I have said it again and again to you that it is a matter of choice. If out of love and compassion I inform you that there is danger ahead and you think it is unacceptable, can I force you to accept my message? NO!!!!If you prepare for it and you dont meet, you have nothing to loose, but if you ignore it and meet it, that becomes the choice I am talking about. Why do you have to fight so hard to convince society that what they see as wrong is right just because it is good for you? Why are laws made? If the Bible is your problem, then make a research on why your own conscience makes you feel uncomfortable doing what you think is good to you. If you really feel good about it try not to have problems with those who dont, for they see it as carnal whilst you see it as good. Are you okey with that? As for belief, it is NEVER BY FORCE,NO!!!Man does not live forever, and so is permitted to make choices. It is however very very important that we make wise choices. My choice may differ from yours, and they can all be put to the test. Therefore I will never force you to accept what I say, but will appeal to you to carefully look into what I present to you. "rest assured, that you will never get s foothold in Africa."
Well, Cantakarous, the last time I checked, South Africa was still in Africa and it recognizes same-sex marriages and its laws and constitution protect against anti-gay discrimination. As the fifth most populous country in Africa, I would say it is a pretty big foothold.
In addition, there are a number of African countries that do not prohibit homosexual sex.
So far, there are 15 countries that recognize same-sex marriages nation-wide (plus Mexico, USA and the UK that do so in parts), and a larger number of countries that protect against anti-homosexual discrimination. A still larger number do not prohibit homosexual sex. Worldwide, the trend is for more countries to recognize the rights of sexual minorities; Africa is the only continent that is mainly moving in the opposite direction.
Gay is not a lifestyle any more than straight is. They are both sexual orientations.

As well-written as this article is, the author misses the point when he assumes one thing, and that assumption pretty much derails all his otherwise very cogent logic: he assumes that Evolution is a proved fact whereas it is rather a mere theory -- albeit a very popular one. Debunk evolution, and all his arguments totter to the ground. Still, truly intelligent human beings do not advocate the inhumane treatment of any other group of humans regardless how much their 'adult sexual preference' offends the rest of us. The religious aspects of this topic, obviously, are too involved to be adequately engaged on this forum.

Barrister77, you seem not to know the scientific definition of theory. In scientific terms, a theory is not a mere hypothesis. On the contrary, a theory is a comprehensive explanation that meets the highest level of scientific certainty, more so than a law like the law of gravity, for example.
To say that evoluton is a theory is to say that it has been proven to explain and predict a broad range of observations. In fact, various controlled experiments have consistently shown the theory of evolution to be true. It is now the very foundation of the science of biology.
Having said that, I think that the theory of evolution has very little to do with the naturalness of homosexuality, which can be demonstrated simply by observing its widespread prevalence in nature.

On the contrary, laws that criminalize homosexuality and human rights for homosexuals lead to suicide, homelessness and unemployment for innocent homosexual children. They do not protect anyone at all. Homosexuality, like heterosexuality, is inborn.
To say that African homosexuals do not have the same human rights as non-African homosexuals is to say that Africans do not have all the human rights of non-Africans, but are instead an inferior race that is entitled to a lesser set of rights. It is an inherently racist idea.

I really dont feel comfortable with your classification at all. Are those you call homosexuals not human beings? Are they a different kind of humans???A person may be born with a greater susceptibility to homosexuality, just as some people are born with a tendency to violence and other problems. If a person is born with a greater susceptibility to anger/rage, does that make it right for him to give into those desires? Of course not! The same is true with homosexuality.
It really does not sound right classifying people by their choice of behaviour. This really has nothing to with human rights. What about those with the tendency to kill, or rob, or rape? Should they also see themselves as another kind of people who must be given the right to do what they inherently feel they must do???? Once they are all humans, a basic human right law must be in place to do what is right. Why do you mention suicide, unemployment and so on?Are you saying you will commit suicide just because a law says you cannot be married to a fellow man, or you will commit suicide because you see it as loss of opportunity to feed on that man's hard earned cash? In Africa, on the average, how many people eat 2 square meals??? The non Africans you are refering to have their own problems that are much different from ours, and it is very wrong to compare in most cases. They have the money to deal with the ill consequencies of their decisions, whereas we are still struggling to get enougth to even keep hope alive. "If a person is born with a greater susceptibility to anger/rage, does that make it right for him to give into those desires? Of course not! The same is true with homosexuality."
No, it isn't true, because homosexuality is not a "greater susceptibility" anymore than heterosexuality is. Both heterosexuals and homosexuals are exclusively attracted to one gender only; only bisexuals are attracted to both.
To argue that homosexuals should abstain from homosexual sex and should marry people of the opposite sex is no less absurd that saying that heterosexuals should abstain from heterosexual sex and marry people of the same sex. Such marriages are counterfeit at best, and are doomed to fail.
"It really does not sound right classifying people by their choice of behaviour."
Homosexuality is not a behaviour; it is a sexual orientation like heterosexuality and bisexuality, and none of them are choices.
"This really has nothing to with human rights. What about those with the tendency to kill, or rob, or rape?"
Human rights experts do indeed consider that gay rights as human rights. Internationally, they are recognized as human rights in the Yogyakarta Principles. In fact, the Secretary General of the UN recognized gay rights in his speech at the Olympic opening ceremony.
And there is no valid comparison between homosexuality, which is harmless, to harmful activities like killing, robbing and rape. starngley, the people who are fixated on homosexuality seem to have no problem with redirecting the police from fighting real crimes like killing, robbery and rape so that they can focus on a victimless pseudo-crime like homosexuality.
"Why do you mention suicide, unemployment and so on?"
All over the world, the greatest and the most invisible victims of homophobia are gay youths (and non-gay youths who are falsely accused of being gay). All over the world, gay youths die because they do not see any hope that they will able to live their lives free of violence, to meet and love who they love, and to get an education and a job free of discrimination and persecution.
Those are the things that African gays seek, not same-sex marriage. It is anti-gay politicians that have made same-sex marriage the issue, so as to distract the voters from their inability or unwillingness to deal with Africa's real problems.

This is because to legislate on a subject on as vast and complicated as human sexuality cannot stop homosexual acts.
However, it should be pointed out that the recent rise in homophobia and aggression against the promotion of LGBT rights in Africa is in response to pressure exerted by the West on African leaders. Many Africans see attempts by the West to tie Foreign Aid to LGBT rights as the imposition of their "cultural colonialism and imperialism" on Africa.

Brother Kofi's pioneering views on the subject will, in the end, prevail. The good people of Ghana, Nigeria, Uganda, etc., won't let the hateful mob, the ignorant, stuck-on-stupid mob, the holier-than-thou' mob, or any one occupied in a time-warp, have the final word. They won't let people like you, POLITICUS, sully a whole continent with ignorance, prejudice, myth, and superstition. They will slay the shibboleths embedded in your minds with a informed reasoning that will knock most cold.
The goal won't be to make people like homosexuals. Who cares if you like, or don't, someone? The goal will be to end the physical and mental torture accorded our gay brothers and sisters in Christ. If you are a true Christian, you must not operate as usual. The mob-mentality must end. You must understand that God must be judge and jury. Not you. Not the mob. He knows our hearts. And if you have a cold one, one the opposite of gold, you will have hell to pay at eternity.
And about what the Bible says on the subject, this for arm-chair-theologians, know-it-alls, and others: The Old Testament says a lot of things about a lot of things, including homosexuality.
But every single one of us picks and chooses what we will, or won't, take to heart, abide by so to say. And there is a God of faith, and one of history. And they are not the same. One you believe in, absent being able to touch or see Him. Christians and Jews have faith that He exists based on the Bible or Torah. The God of history requires a higher standard of proof. It requires evidence which demonstrates, beyond a shadow of doubt, that God, Jesus, the Christ, lived on this earth. The standard of proof is the opposite of faith, belief. Primary and secondary sources are used to gather a case; birth certificates, offspring, friends, letters, pictures, books and articles written by the subject or a subject, or ones written about him or her or a subject, etc. A christian minister or theologian doesn't necessarily have this burden. Her job, or his, is more philosophical, more intellectual, because they try to discern the meaning of what the books, characters, and themes and issues in the Old- and New-Testaments mean. It's not so cut-and-dried because they don't have letters or copies of speeches or books, etc. that Jesus wrote. Some ministers and theologians take the book literally: it says this so this is what it means. These folk and their followers have a fundamentalist notion of the Bible. Others try to discern meaning. They ask what the original words, languages, and cultural traditions mean for what it says. The Bible was written by men, or committees of them, long after Christ walked this earth.
But we would do well to understand that the Testaments describes ancient peoples, laws and traditions. We must ask ourselves if we are necessarily obligated to follow culturally-specific notions and imperatives from long, long ago. I have come to the conclusion that we can not.
If we followed everything in it, we would have to kill our misbehaving children, kill people having sex if they aren't married, sanction slavery, believe Africans are forever cursed, believe women are inherently 'unclean,' and more. Yes, we pick-and-choose. And we are not hypocrites for it. We are not insane. (Well, some of us are!)
We have brains, an inheritance from God. We are obligated to use them to evolve to the next level (so to say). Every generation has major issues to confront. New ideas and ways of living result. And we can't necessarily be intimidated by this. Some of us are. And I get that. Particularly when it comes to homosexuality. But ideas about the sex roles and sexuality don't remain static; ideas about religion and philosophy and politics and culture don't remain static. They evolve over time, usually because we are confronted by crisis, or invention and new knowledge.
Science knows that heterosexuality is natural. For heterosexuals only! And there is strong circumstantial evidence that one is born homosexual. And this: There is CONCLUSIVE evidence that there are over 1000 animal species in which homosexual behavior has been observed. There are some dogs, and horses, for example, who are
exclusively homosexual. One can not make this up. Those doggies and horsies aren't going to reproduce. But their straight counterparts are. With a vengeance.
So I ask you, and those who think like you - why are you intimidated by homosexuals? There are here. And they are not going anywhere. And they are an integral part of the human race.
We know heterosexuals aren't going to fight to become homosexuals. Why do you think they would want the aggravation? Heterosexuals aren't so weak. Why do so many believe they are? It's absurd - an understatement, if ever there was one.
I've seen a heavily-watched online video in which an ignorant Ugandan pastor's implying that gays eat 'do do.' This person must be a man of your heart, POLITICUS. But it's a gross, outrageous slander. As I understand it, he has some kind of doctorate. He's betrayed his education, and his profession, and I'd fire his butt immediately were he in my employ. He is complicit in the mob-mentality taking over Uganda as it relates to homosexuals.
About homosexuality being a 'western' concept, or something imposed by it - gay marriage too. This is strange coming from Africans. Africa is the cradle of civilization. There are African ethnic groups which celebrate so called 'two-spirit' peoples within. THOSE PEOPLE have 'ying' and 'yang', male and female, and they are homosexual by nature, as we understand the term. Various groups have different names for the phenomenon. The word 'homosexual' is a fairly recent western construct. That doesn't mean 'homosexuals' are un-African though. They are African and have been on the continent since, well, time. This is fact. (Read POLITICUS, read. What are you afraid of? Nurture your brain, brother.)
Good Luck to You. And Godspeed, Brother.

POLITICUS you are a 'piece-of-work.' The majority of men and women and children masturbate. You have to know this. Regardless, it does not follow that any one who masturbates can not have children. Straight people, gay people, and bi-sexuals have children. And the vast majority of the men (95%) and women (74%) also masturbate. Where do you come up with such notions? They are incredible. You need to get out more. Speak to people. Do something, man. Please.

In the last 3 years, Ugandans, Nigerians, Ghanaians and other Africans have committed so much of their time and efforts to “solving” the gay and lesbian “problem”. No matter where people discussed this issue, the message has been the same... We hate gays and lesbians... because.... the bible says God and Jesus said so.
To paraphrase, Jesus’s gospel of good news is “I am Jesus, the son of God, I hate homosexuals and all Christians must hate them too”. Is this the good news Jesus sent us, Christians, to go out and tell the world? To spread hate?
It is not important who I am but on who’s behalf I speak for. I am a servant of the one and only true God, Jehovah, who sent his son Jesus to save me and ALL mankind. It is my prayer that by the end of this reading, you may find something inspiring to reflect on. I encourage you to stop everything you are doing and to concentrate on this topic until the God’s message sinks in.
Let's Start.
Let me begin with the idea that Jesus hates homosexuals. That means that you believe that both God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit are hateful beings! Think about that for a moment. God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit in the same class as Hitler, King Leopold II, Charles Taylor and Idi Amin? For this argument sake, I will ask you to help me conduct an experiment. I want everyone to say a prayer right now asking Jesus to kill all gays and lesbians in the world by tomorrow morning. If Jesus hates them that much, he should find no problem killing them.
Now, if you wake up in the morning and all homosexuals are dead, then you have been vindicated. On the other hand, if all homosexuals remain alive, on earth, and Jesus hasn't wiped them out, then you and every hate spewing African must reexamine the source of your hatred. Hatefulness is a poisonous human nature that is learned from the environment in which one is brought up. No child is born evil but they slowly learn hatred from parents, family members, clans, ethnic beliefs, religious opinions and other environmental sources. If you grow up hearing that Nigerians are thieves? Think about that for a moment… There are 177,000,000 Nigerians and all of them are thieves? Maybe not all? You might now be stepping back and adjusting your notion; haven’t you? It is as simple as that. We learn many things that we have to unlearn.
Jesus’s actions tells us a lot about how he wants us to relate to one another. In his day, homosexuals were less insulted in comparison to tax collectors and adulterers. If you collected taxes or slept with another person besides your wife or husband, people would lynch you with sticks and stones. Yet Jesus did many “weird” things that pissed off the pastors of his day whom were “God’s messengers”. Jesus went to Zacheus, the tax collectors’s house and ate with him. Jesus touched the adulterous woman (John 8:1-11).
So, the question we must pose to ourselves is, if Jesus were here, what would he do? And what does he call us to do as followers of him. Can we imagine Jesus going to meet with gays and lesbians at Nandos? Can we imagine Jesus telling us to touch and help homosexuals who are being beaten by some Zongo macho-men?
Let me paraphrase John 3:16 - God loved this world (you, me, Mohammed, Buddah, gays, lesbians, transgender, transsexual, bi-sexual, hindu, sikh, white, Nigerians, Ghanaians and everyone) so much that he sacrificed himself, in Jesus, so that ANYONE who believed is guaranteed eternity. God meant everyone, with no exception! Muslim welcomed! Satanist welcomed! Drug dealers welcomed! You don’t even have to pray in tongues or fast for 1000 days! No cows! No BMW! No bribe!
Belief in Jesus = Eternity in Heaven!
That is the good news! That is the message that Jesus sends us out to tell everyone!
Back to the topic. If Jesus is all about love and good news, there must be something he dislikes or hate! And as followers of Jesus Christ, we must also commit to hating what Jesus hates! So what does God hate? God must surely hate gays? What will make God angry? What will make God put you on His vengeance list?
According to Proverbs 6:16-19, God hates 7 things:
1. God hates Haughty Eyes.
What exactly does haughty mean. Here are some other words for haughty (proud, arrogant, vain, conceited, snobbish, superior, self-important, pompous, supercilious, condescending, patronizing; scornful, contemptuous, disdainful; full of oneself, above oneself; informal stuck-up, snooty, hoity-toity, uppity, uppish, big-headed, high and mighty). Countries like Ghana, Nigeria and Uganda who are busy building roads which they do not have money for have haughty eyes; haughty eyes allow ministers to permit oil companies to cause the destruction of entire ecosystems for money; haughty eyes fuels leaders to borrow more money to setup expensive communications where only a few can afford, whilst the basics like clean water, healthcare and electricity are ignored. God hates people and countries who are arrogant.
2. God hates a lying tongue.
Lying is lying. There is no middle ground. God is concerned about the reasoning and basis for any lie. The LIE involves a certain weakness that covers up the truth about one’s self. To lie is to hide from the truth. This weakness indirectly insults! When you lie, you tell God that we know better than Him and we prefer that nature to what he gave us. We lie when we make beautiful roads and put generations of Ghanaians in debt. We lie when we sell off lands that do not belong to us in order to please some corporation or embassy.
3. God hates the hands that shed innocent blood.
It is true that armed robbers and other murderers shed innocent blood, but God hates the members of parliament who use their pens to kill people. He hates chiefs who permit galamsey workers to dig for gold. They end up putting mercury in the rivers, poisoning innocent villages. God hates pure water makers who package contaminated water as mineral water, which is then mixed with baby powder to feed and shed the blood of innocent babies.
4. God hates a heart that devises wicked schemes.
God hates anyone and any organization or any country whose heart is corrupt and devises wicked schemes. People who post intimate photos of their ex on social media. God hates individuals and companies that are helping hostile vulture companies to destroy entire cities with debt. God hates advertising agencies who promise to help struggling villages and end up painting Vodafone's brand on every house. God hates those who for bribes have compromised our democracy and helping some company make money in the process.
5. God hates feet that are quick to rush into evil.
The Komkomba and Nanumba civil war is an example of quickly rushing to evil. One rumor after another is all that was needed to kill and scatter thousands of families. When Ghanaians hear “awi-o”, that is all that he/she needs to lynch and burn an alleged thief. Jumping to conclusions and following it up with an evil act is something God hates.
6. God hates a false witness who pours out lies.
Think of the radio stations who use unfounded basis to create fear. The people of Ghana wake up each morning scared! Broadcast after broadcast have people calling in to report something fearful, creating a situation where listeners are unable to break away from their radio the whole day until such violent acts have been resolved. Think of the people who are hired to come cry at people’s funeral. Think of the people who are paid by big men to lie under oath.
7. God hates a person who stirs up conflict in the community.
Archbishop Duncan Williams is a person who stirs up conflict; Dr. Mensah Otabil is a person who stirs up conflict; Martin Ssempa who is behind Uganda's homosexual hatefulness is a person who stirs up conflict; Rev. T.B. Joshua is a person who stirs up conflict. Anyone who stirs up conflict in any shape or form is on God's list.
So, to recap, God hates 7 things: arrogance, liars, murderers, wicked schemers, impatience, legal liars and conflict creators. According to Malachi 2:16, there is one more think that God hates: Divorce.
So, of all the things that God, Jesus and Holy Spirit as the trinity, hate, none is homosexuality. Does that mean that God is in its favour? No, but Jesus is aware of all the complexities of our “fallen nature”. Because of this complexity, Jesus has created a new paradise and this is what we all (straight or LGBT or Jew or Christian) hope for. In the meantime, if you want to be hateful, leave Jesus’s name out of it and just be your own little Satan/Hitler/Idi Amin. Jesus loves all especially lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender.
Let me conclude with a prayer:
My Father in heaven, I thank you for the life of this reader. I ask in Jesus’s name that this person be transformed by the renewing of their mind and to bring every hateful thought under Your authority. I also pray that this individual is granted peace and to share your wonderful and good news to everyone whether hetrosexual or homosexual. Let their actions and words truly reflect Jesus’s beautiful personality, and with this bring more souls into your kingdom. I ask all of this is Jesus’s name I pray with thanksgiving. Amen.
