  I said the ASHANTI is the largest ethnic group in my country GHANA, rich with mineral resources....etc
  
  My colleagues (all Indians) shrugged me off saying, ASHANTI is Indian, and a Hindi word.
  
  What means ASHANTI in Hindi, I asked?

  This is a wicked article. It is true majority of Ashantis vote for NPP but that does not mean Ashantis are to be enemies of NDC or President Mahama. There are quite a lot of Ashantis in NDC who are playing useful roles in the party and government. It is unwise for anybody to expect the Asantehene to adopt the posture of an opposition leader on account of NPP, their preferred party being in opposition.
  Time and again, the Asantehene has proved himself a wise man in Ghana’s politics. He has not demonstrated any signs publicly that he is the one controlling his people to vote massively for the NPP. Once elections are over, he works with the one elected by the collective will of all Ghanaians. He has therefore consistently maintained cordial relations with Rawlings, Kufuour, Mills and Mahama because these were the men who have received the collective mandate of Ghanaians under our constitution to be presidents or leaders of this country at one time or the other.
  The Asantehene is a good example for all chiefs and all those in non-partisan leadership positions in the country. What is the point in fighting or resisting the president just because the majority of your people did not vote for him? I believe with the cordial relations the much revered Otumfuour has wisely established between himself and Ghana’s successive leaders, he has placed himself in a morally strong position to influence governance issues even better. I believe he is doing this behind the scene.
  Let the NPP understand that, it is a useless struggle to oppose the president and show scorn on everything he does just because he denied their preferred candidate from winning the election. Once democracy and 4-yearly elections have been entrenched in our culture, definitely there will be other times when NPP’s candidates will win the presidential elections provided they field the right candidates. It is therefore negative to the NPP in particular and Ghana in general if by losing an election they go into a state of counter-productive depressive desperation as if all their world has ended.

  Is NPP now equated to Ashantis? Day in and day out while some level headed NPP members are trying hard to woo other tribes and dispel the perception of an Akan party, people like Addofo Rockson with their dubious agenda are also busily rocking the boat. Who loses when a wedge is driven between the Asantehene and President Mahama? Come to think of it, could the NPP have tolerated President Kuffour being in close friendship with the late Ya Na, the overlord of Dagbon? Defeat for NPP has actaually gotten too much for the like of Addofo to swallow. More may be coming.
