The length people will go to discredit the dead and buried Nkrumah. Nkrumah has been out of Ghana’s body politics since 66 so why the need to bash the man after all these years? We know the services Nkrumah did for us and the pride he instilled in all Africans and all that aspired to the black cause.
For almost 50 years after Nkrumah what else has Ghana achieved worth writing home about? Ghana flipped on its head as things are today must appeal to your warped state of mind but to the true Ghanaian, it is a living night mare.
If you are here to make a mockery of us, you just hit a home run. You picked a very good time when nobody recognizes our country any longer to kick us when we have fallen flat and cannot even stand up on our own.
You do not need education to be a mean spirited person. We do have a dime a dozen of those lost in the pan-cake so Mr. Socrates, been a mean spirited individual as you are, does not separate you from the husk. We have never seen Ghana this bad in times of peace so my dear scholar, your timing is off the hook. Are you not the least faced by the predicament we are in? It must be ideal to you I would like to guess, as selfish and wicked as you are considering our present conditions to feel the need to turn the heat on Nkrumah just to touch a nerve.

I willk just deal with your second paragraph. First, do you know what a nightmare is? A nightmare is when as a parent you were a prisoner in your own house your own young pioneer son who was ready to report you to the Kwame Nkrumah stooges to arrest you for saying anything bad about Nkrumah administration. A nightmare worse than hunger is when you are a mental prisoner and Nkrumah made Ghanaians mental prisoners worse thousand times under colonial rule. Ghanaians never qued for essential commodities like sugar, soap etc until Nkrumah became President.
Secondly, you asked what Ghana has achieved since Nkrumah was removed. My simple answer is; FREEDOM TO EXPRESS OUR OPINIONS. At least now everybody can express his or her opinion without fear of being arrested and imprisoned without trial. It was not like manna was falling from heaven during Nkrumah's rule. Starting from 1963, our economy was falling apart. Our gdp per person was decreasing whilst that of Malaysia and Singapore were going up. Nkrumah had spent every dime of the 400 million pounds he took in 1957 and was running a budget deficit. We were quing for every essential commodity under the sun and even complaining of these shortages was a crime that could send you to prison for life.
Give me freedom or death, have you heard that saying before? Nkrumah denied us freedom and gave us death and you think all of us should march in tandem and praise this dictator because we want heroes in our lives?
People like you are doing a very good job of everything that was good about Nkrumah, let the other side of the coin be described, ok?

Nkrumah had no right to be paranoid no matter how many bombs were thrown at him. His life did not matter, rather that of his detractors did. I am not mad at you just because you will sell your country. I know for a fact at the end of the day the joke will be on you. Your take on history, thank God is not the only truth that is.
You have the right by all means to hate a good man if that is what massages your ego. Now you as an individual are uninhibited to make an impact to take our country where Nkrumah with all his shortcomings left off. Do it positively for that is what Ghana needs right now.

In the early morning of February 24,1966,yours truly's great aunt( and seven other Ghana Airways workers)- on their way to work at the then Accra International Airport - were cowardly and mercilessly mowed down by Afrifa and Kotoka's soldiers - near Flagstaff House. The reason for their deaths was that the driver(not knowing there was a coup),did not come to a complete stop - as ordered. With the exception of the families, most Ghanaians did not know that many innocent civilians perished at the hands of Afrifa and Kotoka.
And now, here comes a fool with a cheap law degree from a middling school in South-west Texas(and he calls himself "Dr."(whereas 99.9% of American lawyers and judges, including Harvard law professors and Supreme Court Justices, don't use that appellation), calling the 1966 coup the best in Ghana.Which of the coups(including attempted)in Ghana was good or not good?
For too long the progeny and sympathizers of the backward-thinking Mate Meho terrorists and traitors (Danquah,Busia,Obetsebi-Lamptey, Bafour Osei-Akoto - then the Asantehene's chief linguist - Mallam Tula and a host of others),have tried to whitewash the undemocratic and violent past of the Mate Meho, pre and post independence - but to no avail.
Their objective now is to use the new technology in the media to demonize the the best African leader and the "Man of the Millenniun". This, they WILL fail because the young generation
is smarter than what Sarfo and his cohort think of them.
As someone who lives in the U.S(in the conservative and racist state of Texas),and an "attorney" to boot - Sarfo should know better and stop rambling circuitously about CIVIL and HUMAN RIGHTS infringements during the Nkrumah days. This is nauseating,to say the least. Nkrumah did not execute the above traitors, despite the fact that their nefarious activities led to the murdering of hundreds of innocent Ghanaians in Ashanti,Eastern Region and Brong Ahafo(including Krobo Edusei's sister in Kumasi) - for the simple reason that they were associated with CPP.
In fact, the "ideal democratic" state of Texas executes more prisoners than all other states in the U.S and Western Europe.Texas also has laws on its books preventing a large segment of the minority population(African-Americans and Latinos)from voting. So don't give us this crap about democratic values.
For homework,Sarfo should compare the draconian anti-terrorism laws in the U.S(PATRIOT ACT)and Britain, where citizens are detained or prosecuted for "belonging" to or "suspected" to have contacts with terrorists - to the PDA in Ghana after independence.Does lawyer Sarfo think the governments of these two liberal democracies will sit around and let their citizens throw bombs and attempt to assassinate their elected leaders? What happened to Timothy Mcveigh, the Oklahoma City bomber? As of now,two US citizens have been "liquidated" outside the U.S,(by drone attacks). Were they afforded due process? Don't even talk about the Snowden case.
The British brought us the PDA. India,Malaysia,Singapore and other colonial territories had them before and after independence. In fact, most former colonies still have them and are either strengthened or modified.
In post-independence Malaysia, the Prime Minister,Tunku Abdul Rahman used the PDA to detain hundreds of terrorists and secessionists who bombed government offices, killed Security personnel and tried several times to assassinate him.The opposition parties which lost the elections supervised by the British, heaped all kinds of invectives on Rahman.Like Nkrumah, the terrorists called him a dictator,a murderer and "Hitler".More than 3,000 Malaysians perished in the the civil war which the British had to intervene,to save the democratically elected government from being overthrown. With his foresight and determination,Tunku Abdul Rahman built Malaysia into a modern state envied by all developing countries, including Ghana.Today,Rahman is revered as the founder of Malaysia.
In Singapore, after independence,Lee Kuan Yew faced the same terrorism by the opposition parties, whom he defeated in elections. He used the PDA to cut-off their legs. And again, today Singapore is the envy of developing countries(even the Mate Meho progeny in Ghana laud the achievements of Singapore).
Sarfo and his cohort need to open their eyes and be enlightened more.Tribal kinship and crying "democracy","democracy", while murdering fellow Ghanaians and throwing bombs to undermine democratically elected governments(Danquah-Busia-Tulla Tradition),will not work anymore.
PEACE
.

I am not surprised by the trash coming from some one who is a typical example of a western stooge. This is the same man who has been advocating in his numerous write ups that the African culture is inferior to white culture so we must all adopt it.This is the man who said Africans are so primitive that we must accept western values to civilize us.
With this mindset it is not surprising that a lost soul like SAS should raise his voice against the man who stood for black culture and black emancipation and had been touted as one of the main authorities who had done so much for the dignity of the African and the black man.Nkrumah's credentials as a proud African and scholar has never been in doubt for a minor like SAS to question. I would not normally respond to such a trash but just to set the records straight.SAS is a confused man.

You can throw dust into the eyes of your guillible ignorant ones, but not Ghanaians. You talk bla, bla, bla as if Ghanaians are ignorant. Today, Nkrumah, according to you people, was the worst dictator Ghana has ever had. And no more Jerry Rawlings as you people have been drumming all over for all this time. You see how hypocrite you are? No amount of your rubbish can erase what the grerat Nkrumah as done for Ghana and African as a whole. You talk of Nkrumah rejecting verdicts of rulings that did not favoured him. What about Busia and his cronies? Give us a break!

Dude, read something interesting from Kwarteng Francis that will make your day sad.
"Interestingly, Dr. Kwesi Botchwey, Ghana’s former Finance Minister, from 1982-1995, has formally acknowledged the reason behind Nkrumah’s overthrow, thus writing: “He was forthright in his view about which side in the Cold War favored the conditions for the consolidation of African independence and development. Imperialism was decidedly unforgiving in these tense times and Nkrumah paid dearly for his trenchant criticism of colonial and post-colonial exploitation. The publication of his book on Neo-colonialism in 1965 met with a hostile reaction from the West. The American government withdrew $35 million in aid earmarked for Ghana, and we know that Nkrumah paid the ultimate price in Feb. 24, the following year (1966) when a Western-backed coup d’état overthrew him (See “The Relevance of Kwame Nkrumah’s Legacy in Ghana’s Contemporary Political Economy”)"
Now, pray, who is braying, bleating and barking as donkeys, sheep and dogs?

You see, the promptitude and avidity with which you responded to my comment shows how much you thrive on feedback generated by your polemical subjectivity.
You see, people underestimated Nkrumah's genius so they were wrong to have fomented nefarious agitations against him.
On the other hand, those idiots who were power-thirsty and had very little brains had their spleens already deeply anchored against the greatest acknowledged African in contemporary history of the dark continent.
Let me give you this comparison: Ivory Coast has almost the same landscape and natural endowments equaling in magnitude to Ghana's. That country was led by the France-leaning Felix Houphouet-Boigny who took all those number of years as he did as president but who couldn't match Nkrumah's oeuvres that took him only some 9 years to accomplish. But Houphouet-Boigny wasn't ever contested until his death. Do you see what peace could achieve in a state? The Ivorian lived and died in quietude. Wouldn't it have been better to have allowed Nkrumah some peace for his sacrifices? Wouldn't Nkrumah have performed better than then type of Ghana unleashed on us by those who took over, taking into consideration the quality job he did?
But there is one thing so many people didn't know of Houphouet-Boigny. He fed people to crocodiles, but know one talks about that.
Personally, I believe erecting platforms to vilify a leader such as Nkrumah whose achievements still tower so much over those of all the succeeding heads of state we had/have combined long after he was overthrown is clearly not being smart!
You have to appreciate the fact that we in Ghana have never changed, and the type of wicked leadership too hasn't changed. With the kind of people like you in Ghana, nothing will happen better for the country; I am sorry but that's the apex truth, the crux of the matter.

Did you understand my point at all? What are the developments in Ivory Coast? Are you one of those satisfied with mediocrity? Ivory Coast is Abidjan, point barre.
When Ghana railways were commissioned how many countries had such projects in Africa? And how many years did Boigny take to put this up?
Take you time to read the post below from someone who replied to Sarpong when he caressed the same thought. I hope it will edify you so you'd see if you know what you're talking about:
"Barima Sarpong,
In the first place, please do justice to your name by getting your facts and figures right. The British blew all our monies during the second World War which resulted in veterans who served in Burma and elsewhere during WWII being rendered unemployed after they returned home. This led to the looting in 1948. The 200 million pounds (not 250 millions pounds) was accrued between 1951 and 1957 when Nkrumah was head of government in Business. The British were broke after the WWII and were bailed out with the rest of Europe by the US Marshal plan. It was our own money not what the British left us. Sarpong, does it make sense to you that after over 100years British rule all they leave us was a mere 200 million pounds?
Secondly, using the rate of inflation, 200 million British pounds would be worth nearly $6 billion at most in today’s money and NOT $20 billion as you would have gullible starters to believe. You can check this out on the following web site: This is money.co.uk for real figures. Sarpong, as you know you can have your own opinion but cannot manufacture your own facts.
Thirdly and by no means the least. Nkrumah had to start from the scratch. Look, when Nkrumah took over, Ghana had to import everything, there was not a single factory in Ghana. I don’t know whether you are aware of this fact. Nkrumah started from putting numerous institutions in place which most them recently celebrated their 50th anniversary to building power plants to jump start our economy.
Sarpong, the building of the Akosombo dam and townships alone took a chunk of 35 million pounds. That was Ghana’s contribution to Volta River Project. The Adomi bridge to connect Volta region took over a million pounds. Building of Kumasi nurses training college, building KNUST, building of Cape Coast University. Adding more dorms to Legon university, Medical school, free education and healthcare. Meanwhile teachers, nurses, police service and army are being paid. On top of that building over 69 SOEs(State owned enterprises) Housing estates in all regions, more secondary schools and adding more teachers training apart from infrastructure. A dozen trawlers for state fishing corporation, 14 ships paid for BSL, new planes for VC10 for Ghana Airway,. Bank of Ghana, Ghana Commercial Bank. Tema townships , motorway, railway for commuters from Accra to Tema. The first double track rails from Kotoku to Takoradi to cut short the journey to Takoradi which use go through Kumasi before reaching your destination. Buying of the Blue train express train in addition to ply this new route. Superb Public transport with Agogi (Benz buses) in urban cities, State Transport Corp with comfortable German Setra buses for long distance journey, Telecommunications, roads and building of clinics all over the country,GNTC etc was a Hercules task. Those who came after Nkrumah had a cold chop. Very easy job but all failed!
Sarpong, do you deduct the amount spent i.e. the huge investment made from this 200 million pounds you make a fuss about? Kufuor and Rawlings are nowhere near Nkrumah. They came and met institutions in place which today still hold Ghana administratively together.
Rawlings, went through SAP to solidify the fundaments of our economy, Ghana was growing under his administration and in Africa the IMF hailed his administration. Whether Sarpong likes it or not it was Rawlings who opened up the press with private radio and TV stations, the internet, the advent of mobile phones and more travelling of Ghanaians abroad and with their remittance which in effect eased the economic burden of many families. Rawlings administration had to absorbed hundreds of thousands of displaced Ghanaians from Nigerian this is no easy task. Rawlings did a lot on water supply and rural electrification.
Kufuor, inherited a debt of $ 6,2 billion of which Ghana got a debt relief of $4.2 billion after going HIPC. On top of it another $565 million was awarded to Ghana by the US government after meeting the MCA requirements. For so much money and the few projects undertaken which left Ghana again broke after Kufuor’s tenure of office to a total tune of over $8 billion leaves much to be desired. The corruption level under kufuor’s watch is the worse ever seen in Ghana. E.g. The Taj Mahal which cost $100 million and counting remains an uncompleted project. The Ghana@50 was a farce. From my humble point of view history will not be kind to Kufour as to which position he would be holding after the great Kwame Nkrumah.
My favourite ratings of Ghanaian politicians are in this order: Kwame Nkrumah, Kofi Annan, Rawlings, Afari K. Gjan, Kufuor. The position of Mills can only be determined after his tenure in office. As for Kofi Busia the least said about him the better. Limann was blackmailed by PFP which prompted the second coming of Rawlings. My judgement though is the Feb 24th 1966 coup took us aback and Ghana has ever since been taken hostage. Nkrumah Lives! We still face forward. Long live Maame/Daavi Ghana in Freedom and Justice.

Does it make sense for one person to aid his enemy to kill him? If you need $35 million dollars, don't you think the best person to get it from is your friend and not your enemy? Why didn't Nkrumah ask the Soviet Union to give him $35 million. You wanted the Americans to help Nkrumah to destroy them? You are not suggesting America should have committed political suicide to help Nkrumah, are you?

Sarpong, denouncing imperialism is NOT support for communism! In case you missed it - and if no one told you before - Nkrumah was strictly nonaligned despite his leanings. He declared himself nonaligned.
Why should America fear him and Africa turning into socialism? It would never have weighed in much in the world's eventual direction.
And I can continue to attest that political ideologies aren't inherently faulty. It is the disciples of the ideologies that mould oddities out of them and make them look like monsters.
You see, sometimes to weaken even your enemy isn't to deny him water when he is thirsty, deny him of food when he is hungry. Not only does it take away your credibility and the very core values you defend, it makes you a vile manipulator whilst fortifying your enemy. Everyone is prone to fruitful discussions instead of aggressions that hardly mitigate grievances.
Nkrumah did have assistance from the Soviets and from even communist China just as he had help from the West.
The issue about the West which tipped leaders like Nkrumah and his contemporaries against imperialism was that, the USA and allies had tasteless palpable vestiges all over Africa, much of which remain till today throughout the wretched continent.
When Nkrumah took power, the West including Britain, France and the USA were already supporting the Apartheid regime in South Africa and brewing conflicts in the whole South African sub-region, undermining Congo and the whole Central African belt in the name of their ideologies.
I am not saying Nkrumah was 100 percent right just as Clinton and Bush weren't, but the West's hatred shouldn't be edified on someone's perceived ideological leanings.
Nkrumah was human and could have been talked reasonably down.
On the other hand, we shouldn't also take every unnecessary occasion to run him down. Those we have now are worse even if they are showing what they know.
Do you see how Africans are flocking to Europe despite the great risks of getting drowned in the Mediterranean? There are some 40000 in the region between Maroc and Spain waiting to go, apart from the huge numbers arriving in Italy every day.
Last week, Dulles Airport in Washington had their fair share of surprises mounted when they discovered a dead body in the undercarriage of South African Airways arriving from the Senegal. That was the third after two previous arrivals (who arrived as passengers with the same airline) who had no documents and the US is pretty vexed over the issue.
Now, if they don't take care, all Africa will be heading towards America and the West.
Won't it have served the West better to help Africa have self-sufficiency decades ago than face mass exodus in years to come when they themselves are barely sticking their necks over the waves?

He didn't have the power to do that. He was only Leader of Government Business and the British Governor still had the power to sanction final laws. Something like banning a political party would have been beyond the powers of Nkrumah. He could do that only after independence in 1957 even though the Queen was still the titular head of state (until 1960) and couldn't interfere in internal legislation.

This statement right at the beginning of your ill-hearten write up gave you up. You're a pathological liar and its characterized in your article. That is a shame and most disgraceful on your part. As I said earlier on, you’re a disgrace to civilization and you should bury your head in hot ashes in shame. Your hatred for Nkrumah and whatever he stood for will not take you anywhere. Go to Ethiopia, Botswana, Tanzania and dozens of African countries to see the works of Nkrumah. India, China and many many countries respected and still respect him and what he stood for. Even in your own backyard of Chicago and other States in USA, Nkrumah is honoured. The Europeans are laughing for stealing a political ideology from Nkrumah (EU Model)
For Nkrumah standing against crimes against humanity in the raping of Africa’s resources, the dehumanization of Africans and Black people all over the World, he paid the price. But over 95 percent of Africans appreciate what he did for them, except a block-headed person like you.

Sorry, I should have just included the cost to Nkrumah's project without the unnecessary story about Rawlings and Kufuor.
Have a nice weekend, though.
The British left 140 million pounds and not 400 milliom pounds.Nkrumah was depending mostly on loans for the Seven Year Development Plan. You are A STUPID liar.
You are an idiot. 140 million pounds in 1957 is more than 10 billion dollars in today's currency. Why will Nkrumah give 10 million pounds to Guinea if all he got was 140 million pounds? Does it make any sense?
Cardinal lied that the British left 400 million pounds instead of 140 million pounds. When he was challenged on this web,he responded with insult. I hope this idiotic Cardinal knows the difference between 140 and 400.
You are a fool. Where is your evidence that it was 140 million pounds and not 400 million pounds. You are a dolt my sarcasm escaped you.

Opinion is like a nose that comes in different forms or shapes . The writer is entitled to his opinion about Nkrumah and the best to do is to counter with facts. Insulting him is not helping.
If only the writer had shown us where he got those information from instead of distortions.
Were he to show us, we could interogate the evidence ourselves.
Why don't you tell us what you think is a distorted fact. Where he got the information from is not even important because if you want to dispute his assertions, you can easily do your research on line and come up with facts t ...
